This place has a great patio for watching the riverwalk, which is exactly why we chose to go here. The service was good once we got someone's attention. We were being served "half liters" of beer, although I doubt the glass was that much. I was disappointed that the first two beers that I chose from the menu were not available. We ordered the meat tower and a salad. The tower was decent, but not outstanding. The "hot" items were more like kinda-warm. The pretzels were drenched in oil or butter, not sure which. We ate it all because we were hungry. The salad was actually really good. read more

The owner can get away with bad service because of the tourism. I like German food and the food here was okay, but the service wasn't it took an hour to get one appetizer and the happy hour was only available at the indoor bar. Live music was the only redeeming factor read more

Friendly, customer focused staff but the food was no-bueno / nicht gut (except for the pretzel). Did not like the schnitzel and I couldn't eat the sauerkraut (even though I love sauerkraut and Kimchi). Our goal was good food over lunch with family - maybe it's better for evening drinks. Really not impressed with the kitchen given location and history of this location. read more

Girls trip to Texas included visiting the Riverwalk. We stumbled upon this restaurant when we were looking for a snack and some drinks. Prost is located on the Riverwalk in La Villita, this restarant has tons of outdoor seating, nice bar. They also have indoor seating but we didn't check that area out. Our group of 4 ordered some cocktails and the holy grail of nachos (Double stacked tortilla chips topped with our very own savory Altstadt chili, queso, and finished off with jalapenos, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.)! Huge and the ingredients were layered thru out so every bite had something in it. My god they were delicious!!!! What made our experience top notch was our server SERENA!! I frequent many restaurants all around and let me tell you that Serena was at the top of that list. She was so fun, friendly, her attitude was amazing. Give this woman a raise!!! My only "small suggestion" for this place was to put some fly fans on the tables. We battled a few wasps/bees trying to share our nachos and they were way too good to share!! Visiting San Antonio for the first time and was excited to enjoy German food. The location is really good, on Riverwalk with pretty view. That's about all the positives of this place. Granted it was Saturday evening but service was slow. Menu is full of random food choices, most of them not related to German cuisine. I ordered Sausage paddle that clearly stated it come with bacon sauerkraut & potato salad. My husband decided on Schnitzel that comes with bacon sauerkraut & mashed potatoes. Our server even double checked if mashed potatoes works & my husband confirmed it. It too quite a while & food finally came out - no potato salad for me - instead i had a few spicy pickle & cauliflower pieces. My husband had fries instead of mashed potatoes. The gal that brought food out just plopped it in front of us & ran away before we got a chance to point out we had no utensils & napkins on the table. My husband had to actually go get it. I should mention that our server by that time was not available since he fell walking down the wet unsafe stairs carrying a tray with drinks, dropping it all & splashing more fluids on to already wet floor. Thank goodness he was able to hobble up the stairs - I truly hope he is doing ok. No employee came back to clean up the wet spills, broken glasses that went different directions. Unbelievable! It was already wet & slippery & now got worse but no one cared - employees just kept on slowing down a bit going up & down the stairs. No one checked on us to see if food was good or if we wanted anything else... sausage & pretzel were decent but sauercraut literally had 1 crumble of bacon in it & pickled vegetables were not tasty. My husband's schnitzel was flavorless & he did not care for the fries either. When it was time for us to pay, I mentioned the substitutions on our plates & all the lady said was that she is sorry about it & they should've notified us that they ran out of potato salad & mashed potatoes... Seriously? How do you run out of these two foods in a "German" restaurant? So a lesson to us not to ever eat in a restaurant in a touristy location. A completely disappointing experience with food and service! read more

Let's just say the Bratwurst plate is amazing. The side potatoes and pretzel made this dish complete. This place looks really inviting, but the food was subpar! I ordered the pork schnitzel, that advertises a hunter gravy over it. When it arrived there appeared to be no gravy at all. When I inquired, I was told that the gravy had turned out watery today and it was more like broth. All they had to do was add flour to thicken it! The bacon cabbage was awful, the pickled veggies where yuck, and the potato salad had no flavor! The sauerkraut, sausages, and pretzel were very good, and the service was great! If you want good German food, sadly this is not the place! read more

Was walking along the riverwalk and stumbled upon this quaint corner of the walk and this Prost Haus. Didn't stop, but decided to come back after I wanted more than Tex-MEX food. I chose correctly. Decided on the Jaeger Schnitzel with bacon cabbage, and mashed potatoes, and washed it down with a Hoegaarden bottled beer. It was a little early, so plenty of seating outside in the patio, where live music was playing. Open seating, so was able to to snag a high top table and listen to the music. Waiter promptly came over, mentioned how to get the menu from the QR code on the table, and allowed me to glance over the menu. Once I saw what I wanted, waiter was prompt in getting my order and get me started. The Schnitzel was delicious, as were the potatoes and cabbage. I would definitely come back. read more

We had friendly service, from the hostess to the wait staff. The menu was not as German focused as one might expect, but the sausage paddle with bratwurst and polish sausage was delicious. The crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer was SO good. My wife got the chicken schnitzel club, which she said was great. I could wish for more German beer options, but the overall options for beer were solid. Warsteiner Dunkel or Pilsner is always great and did not disappoint. There was also Franziskaner Weissbier, but I did not try it. There are several regional options too. The river walk atmosphere was really relaxing and the guitar playing singer the night we were there was excellent. There are many not so great chains along the River Walk. If you are wanting to avoid those as well, give this place a try. read more

We were half happy with our experience here. The ribeye mashed potatoes and cabbage was very good and so was the Ruben sandwich. My daughter, the chicken strip connoisseur, said their chicken strips were just OK. The sauerkraut on the brat went very good either. The deviled eggs were dry and rubbery. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was very nice, you can't beat right on the river walk. The live entertainment was nice and funny, but was sometimes competing with the live entertainment next door, so sometimes they'd be singing over each other. I'd come back for the steak and bitburger! read more

On our boat ride the night before, we spotted a neat little place tucked in the corner on the River with tiered terrace eating and music, so tonight we tried it out. I found the aesthetic charming with their German mugs and paraphernalia. My eleven year old thought it was cool as well. It was a Friday night at 2130 and there were plenty of seats available inside. On the outside near the river walk, it was pretty crowded. They were just starting karaoke when we were leaving. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean and the service was fantastic! read more

Went here on vacation and was thoroughly impressed. Ordered the Meister Burger and my wife got the Schnitzel club. Ordered a Long Island and Cherry Bath Bomb to accompany it. The Meister Burger was amazing, and was even better with the addition of Bier Cheese. Wife was impressed by the Schnitzel club as well, and the Long Island got her thoroughly buzzed. The fries that came with the meal were also rather divine, and I don't know what brand of ketchup they use but it really tied it all together. Bonus: They let you keep the rubber ducky from the bath bomb. read more

We came early in the day (when they just opened) because we were about to fly out of town and want to try this place before we left. We sat outside and the view was great. They have a cool staggered deck view of the riverwalk. I could imagine this place would be amazing at night if it were full and hopping with people, maybe music? There are a lot of fried options. We got the corned beef egg rolls and sauerkraut balls. Both were good, but we just are huge fried food eaters, so regretted the decision soon after eating. One thing that they use plasticware. The service was friendly. This isn't a place I would go for a great date or dinner - but it is somewhere I would go to meet friends for drinks/snacks/atmosphere. read more

Service was great from the start, very welcoming and attentive without being over the top. The food did not disappoint either. We shared the red snapper and a steak cooked medium, and both were done perfectly. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and exactly how we ordered it. Overall, just a really nice dinner experience. Good food, great atmosphere, and definitely a spot I would come back to when visiting San Antonio again.

Boudros was highly recommended by friends, and was the first restaurant on our list to dine in during our recent visit. We arrived at the restaurant on a Thursday around 7:45 pm and were told by a young Hostess that no walk-ins were allowed until after 9 pm. We decided to modify our itinerary and instead had dinner at a different restaurant on the riverwalk, and made a reservation for Boudros online for the following evening. When we arrived the following evening for our reservation at 7.30 pm, we were escorted to a small table in the bar that was next to the entrance to a small room. The area was noisy with a lot of foot traffic. We asked for a table in a quieter room and were moved to a room in the back of the restaurant where it was easier to have a conversation. A few minutes later our waiter, Stephen, approached the table. We asked him for drink recommendations and among others he recommended the "Prickly Pear Margarita". I ordered the Prickly Pear Margarita, and we also ordered the tableside Guacamole. The restaurant was busy, but there were several empty tables in our dining area. After about 15 to 20 minutes, the waiter brought our drinks. The Prickly Pear Margarita I received was not even close to the description on the menu. The ice was melted and it tasted like Fruit Punch with alcohol in a martini glass. A few minutes later, Stephen approached our table with the Guacamole cart. There were pieces of onions and cilantro all over the dirty table cloth on the cart. He prepared the Guacamole in front of us and it looked very unappealing. We watched as he added an excessive amount of diced onions and cilantro. Being a connoisseur of Guacamole, and making my own for most of my life, it was obvious that Stephen had not been trained well in how to make Guacamole. After he mixed the sliced avocados, the diced onions and cilantro, he wiped the edge of the stone tray with a dirty cloth. The onions and cilantro over powered the taste of the avocado. Later that evening, Stephen brought a very fancy drink for a customer sitting next to us. The drink looked like frozen lime juice with line of frozen strawberry and a nice scoop of frozen lime juice on top. I asked Stephen for the name of that drink, and he replied that it was the same drink that I had ordered. I asked why it looked so different and he muttered something about it being the end of the batch and then said "I'm not the Bartender". He blamed the Bartender for making the terrible drink, and made no effort to correct the problem. Later Stephen returned with our dinner, and as he approached our table, he ordered my wife to "move your glass!" Needless to say she was quite taken aback at his abrupt manner with no please or thank-you. In all the staff did not have a very good demeanor and were very sullen and grumpy. Even asking for directions to the bathroom barely elicited a glance and the needed information. Maybe the staff was overworked because of the number of visitors for the Fiesta, but the terrible, over-priced food, did not make up for the unhappy staff, and we do not plan to return.

Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.
