The Reuben could use a little more sauce, but that could be ordered on the side. I got the jaeger schnitzel. The pork was very tender and the gravy was okay. The mashed potatoes were pretty tasty and I swapped the broccoli for a side of the crispy Brussels sprouts. I would say those were my favorite - they were nice and crispy and a little sweet. We also ordered the deviled eggs, which were special with a bacon jam type topping. The purple cabbage that came with it was super good.

It is very rustic which made it feel super authentic It is owned by a family husband and wife. I wish I asked for her name all smiles she greeted us and I decided to get the 3 meat combo which I picked the cordon bleu, the chicken schnitzel and the pork schnitzel and I still added the wurst curry. For the sides I got the sauerkraut and the potato salad. My friend got the chicken schnitzel with the cabbage and French fries Let me start by saying it is CHEAP!! My plate is $21.50! It is huuuge! Me the one who can eat a lot! I couldn't even tackle half of it! It definitely can feed easily 2 hungry people! Everything tasted amazing! The cordon bleu though is next next level! We found out the food truck would be at Windmill Farms Winery, east of Bucee's in New Braunfels. My wife could not wait for them to pull up and start serving. After talking with Brent, I learned he was in the Army and spent a lot of years in Germany. The menu had a lot of variations on schnitzel. We decided to get the Jagerschnitzel with Hunter Mushroom Sauce. It was so good. Breading was thin and the meat was tender and flavorful. The plates are quite affordable and come with two sides. We chose the red cabbage and cucumber salad. The cabbage was a little sweet and had a nice flavor. The cucumbers were thinly sliced and fresh. We also had the warm pretzel with cheese sauce. The outside of the pretzel had a good pretzel flavor and inside was warm and fluffy. The cheese sauce was so good I wished for a tub it it with a spoon. I stopped at Dos Gatos for coffee and also picked up a few sweet treats for later (wink, wink!) Dos Gatos, which I believe means two cats, is a shop for "on the go" folks...no inside seating and small space. The shop focuses on fast service, and fresh baked goods, with kolaches baked daily. Dos Gatos has a variety of items such as sweet kolaches with traditional fillings like apricot, poppy seed, strawberry, raspberry, and cream cheese. They have savory kolaches such as sausage and cheese, jalapeño sausage, chorizo, ham and cheddar, and vegetarian sausage options. The turkey sausage kolache was the standout...sometimes called a pig in the blanket. One downside of the sweet kolaches is they are rather small. I forget how small they were until my hubby mentioned also. A surprise bonus was their full espresso bar, which includes lattes, cappuccinos, mochas, chai, cold brew, etc. Pricing was at the low end of the spectrum. I purchased coffee, sweet and savory kolaches.

Because of that, I've recently found myself searching for family-friendly restaurants with large outdoor areas. That way, if my little one gets fussy, I can walk around with him, and we're not stuck inside worrying about disturbing other diners. Freiheit Country Store was perfect for our needs. The outdoor area is large and spacious, and the overall atmosphere is very family-friendly. It has a relaxed vibe that feels just right for families with young children. One small observation: I do wish some parents paid a little more attention to their kids. It had recently rained, and a boy was throwing rocks into a puddle, causing water and mud to splash onto my husband's back. We politely asked him to stop, but he continued, and we couldn't spot a parent nearby. As for the food, it was served quickly, arrived hot, and tasted great. No complaints there. My husband also appreciated the simple and efficient ordering process. Overall, this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a cold beer, and relax in a family-friendly environment. We'll definitely be back
