First of all, bless this place for being available and able to accommodate my rather large party. I had a table of 18 looking for a place to gather for drinks and food after a weekend wedding. We were the people still left in town after a "destination" wedding, and all weren't going back until the next day. It took some searching, but Little Rhein was able to accommodate a reservation for us that Sunday evening the same morning. So that was great and I really appreciated that! Also, we had the most amazing server- Danielle- she was incredible and so patient so I am so thankful for her too! So the bright spots here are: Danielle, the large patio that can accommodate big parties, and the cute ambiance. The bad is- the rest of the place is kinda depressing. It's a bit run down inside and it is confusing how you get down to the patio from the entrance. After figuring that part out, you have to go down some steep stairs to get to the patio. When we arrived, there was live music- it was one guy with a guitar. They had him cranked SO loud, though, that you couldn't hear anything else. He was screaming into his microphone and it was definitely turned all the way up. The patio was pretty sparsely populated, so I didn't see the need for club volume music at 6:30 on a Sunday. The menu is pretty limited, too, but once we got around to ordering it took well over 1.5 hours to get food. We all mainly ordered appetizers and a salad, and it took SO LONG to get everything. It wasn't just our table- it was everywhere. Once we got the food, it was good, but really nothing special. Overall I just don't think this is anything special- the food is meh, it took a ridiculously long time to even GET the food, and it's got a bit of a run down vibe. The prices are on the higher end for what you get. But if you're here to drink with a group, it might be the perfect spot. The group stopped in here after a long hot walk on the Riverwalk. The beer was cold and the food was tasty. My son mowed down a giant pretzel with beer cheese with a quickness while hubs enjoyed the sausage platter with a pretzel, sauerkraut and picked veggies. Save your time and money. The food is ok but the service is terrible. While we where there 3 families walked out because there was not server to even take the order. We later saw all three families siting at a restaurant down the river walk . They advertised fun and fancy drinks. Located on the Riverwalk in La Villita, this restarant has tons of outdoor seating and indoor seating that is unique. Indoors there were lounge chairs around low tables, booths and bar height tables with stools. Also a regular bar, and outdoor seating that was patio style. We seated ourselves for the Sunday Brunch time, getting there around 1115. It wasn't busy at all, the rai probably held off a lot of people but we made it there from our hotel without any problem. We had checked the menu the night before and I was looking forward to the Chicken and Waffles. It did not dissapoint, it was all I dreamed it could be! Tender, juicy, crisp outside, a good black peppery heat, the chcicke was glorious. The waffle could have been crispier, but was yummy. It came with a pumpkin butter which added a nice flavor. The chicken combined with the syrupy waffle was everything I wanted it to be! Wifey got a more standard breakfast, the Big Tex Breakfast, that included eggs, sausage, bacon, and a waffle. She subbed the sausage which shes not into. We also ordered a fresh pretzel to start which was massive, tastsy and came with awesome dips of beer cheese and mustard. Best pretzel we've had in so long. The bartender that served us was extra helpful and friendly. he was very enthusiastic and willing to help with any menu choices we wanted. It's inevitable that most of the restaurants lining the Riverwalk are tourist traps: toss on some live music, offer up drinks, food, and a place to sit on the water, and people will come. I wanted to like Little Rhein more but the experience just wasn't up to par. It wasn't hard finding a table outside and service was quick: I ordered a sausage paddle with bratwurst and Nuremberg links along with a pint of hefeweisen. The beer came out pretty quick but the food took a while owing to the crowd. When it did, the result was average at best. The board came with the two sausages, a mustard laced potato salad, pickled cucumber and cauliflower, and a pretzel with Bavarian style mustard. Great Location and Many Food and Drink Choices What a perfect setting on a terraced portion of the famous San Antonio River Walk. There is a large seating area on the main patio and more seating on each of the terraces leading down to the river. Great views of the river boats and people strolling the sidewalk. I think there's live music everyday. You name the cocktail or beer and they will probably have it and for those people that need or want souvenirs, they can serve that drink in a take home cup. Daily drink specials include 1/2 liters of certain beers and drinks for $5. The food menu is expansive, but as we were wanting to sit, sip and nibble at a few places along the river, we opted to try the server recommended, soon to be famous Kraut Balls appetizer ($11.95). Yes, six balls made of sauerkraut and pork sausage, breaded and fried, served with a mustard sauce. They were great and especially good with one of the German biers that I enjoyed. It was a cold cold night when we wandered into this establishment. Every other place that we had stopped had an excessive wait for a table, but lucky for us we found a corner table unoccupied. One thing you will never knock them on is the size of their portions. In fact, we saw other tables get the giant pretzel which dwarfed the two pretzels on our tower. We did get the tower which is a nice variety of many of their signature items, including three types of sausages, pretzels, beer cheese, Kraut balls, and deviled eggs. All of it was amazing. The service was a little on the slow side. In fact, we had to get the manager to find our server in order to pay our bill. I know it was cold and wet outside, and they did not have a lot of servers working, so I'm not going to be too critical of that point. The other distraction or detraction was the DJ in ostensibly a German restaurant playing country music that was not matched up to the videos he was playing... It was just strange. All in all however it was enjoyable food in a nice establishment. Given better weather, I would love to return and sit outside in their beer garden on our next visit. read more

Very good established locally-owned place with a fun German-style Octoberfest vibe to it. It has kind of a jumble of seating inside but has wonderful terraced, tree-shaded seating outside (if a but unkempt) along the Riverwalk with direct stairway access to it. Excellent selection of German-style local craft brews and actual German brews. Has good quality food featuring decent German food options including sausages, schnitzels (but not with veal, so technically not really a schnitzel) and others. Their menu has a lot of non-German fare which are apparently obligatory San Antonio items presumably appealing to tourists that most places seem to include - I've been to other, different ethnically-oriented places that have same or similar items. At Prost I had a delightful local Altbier and delicious reuben sandwich (again not German - an NYC Jewish deli invention). Overall, a qualified 4-star (3.5 stars if I had that option) place for San Antonio. read more

Little Rhein Prost Haus is located right at the Riverwalk in La Villita, near Yanaguana Park. If you're hungry, don't bother coming here, there isn't a lot of selection as far as food. Shortly after arriving and seeing the menu, I was disappointed and already thought of what I'd write on my one star review. The DJ also didn't help the case. He was picking great songs, but ruining them with his mixing and then songs changed every 30 seconds or so. The water that was served while waiting to order was horrible. It tasted like it might've come from the Riverwalk itself. I ended up getting a Reuben sandwich, which tasted alright. That, pair with an alcoholic beverage must have made me feel better to give this two stars. With all of that said, I wouldn't come here again and just go to the other one just minutes away. They have better food selection from what I remember. Per the websites, I think they're both under the same management, so I'm not sure why this location doesn't have better food choices. read more

The live music was fantastic and I could sit here for a good while and drink and listen to the music and people watch. However be very chosen with what you order to eat. We had the jaeger schnitzel and it was gross. Not really hot when it came out. The service was extremely slow and nothing to write about. I would go back but only for drinks and live band. We found this restaurant after taking the river boat tour and the restaurant barker Droy lured us in with a veterans discount. Man are we glad he did! We had their amazing spring rolls and a couple draft pilsners. My husband is not into sauerkraut but was willing to try and was glad he did. And the secret sauce! Yum. This place has a sweet patio! It was a little deceiving since we walked in from the street (instead of from the Riverwalk) and it looked like the business was closed. There weren't any people (workers or customers) inside and it was rather confusing. We finally made our way to the patio and saw the error in our initial ways haha.
