Good food, Reasonable prices [West Wendover NV] Had brunch here inside the Red Garter Hotel & Casino, one of the hotels at the UT|NV stateline on the Nevada side in West Wendover. It was around 8:00a early in the day and the cafe only had one other party in the dining room. The cafe had a nice, clean, cozy interior with a casual atmosphere. The menu offered a variety of classic American dishes and comfort food favorites. We ordered a couple of 2-egg breakfast plates, one with bacon and the other with sausage. Each served with hashbrowns and choice of toast. Food came quickly. Our server was friendly and pleasant and also gave us a 10% discount off our bill. Food was great and prices were reasonable. There was something quaint about Prospector Café that I really enjoyed. Perhaps it was that there were so few people there on a Friday evening, which made for a slightly more intimate experience. Or maybe it was the unique décor with old wood paneling and western pictures that totally set the vibe. Whatever it was, it worked. The menu was also just right-Goldilocks would have loved it...not too small, not too robust. There was a little something for anyone, without being over the top. I gravitated toward the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy-comfort food. The flavor of everything was pretty good, although the timing of bringing things to the table was off. My meal came out 3-5 minutes before my dining partner's did, so by the time I dove in (I'm not a jerk, I waited), it was not hot. Overall, for the price, it was a good experience. Keep your expectations in check, and you'll be happy. read more

I looked at the reviews after we sat down and I was very worried but I think the reviews are a little harsh. The vibe is amazing! The food is a little flavorless, I recommend the fried ice cream and the fries. The service was above average, but overall I think there are better places to eat in Wendover read more

If you find yourself in Wendover, NV, nursing a pounding headache and the remnants of last night's regrets, Prospector Café might be just the oasis you need. This isn't fine dining--it's grease, carbs, and caffeine with no pretensions. The Good: * Cheap enough that you won't feel worse about your life choices. * Portions big enough to revive even the most tragic of mornings. * Coffee that might not win awards, but it will get you functional again. The Meh: * Service? Let's call it "efficient." Don't expect warm hugs or enthusiastic recommendations--just the basics to keep you moving. This place isn't trying to win Michelin stars--its main mission is survival. If your standards are as low as your blood sugar and you're only a michelada away from feeling human again, the Prospector Café will deliver exactly what you need. Just don't come here expecting much beyond a good greasy breakfast... or sobriety. read more

We bought one each of the breakfast specials, eggs & bacon, and a pankcake breakfast. You have to have a club card or it will cost you more. We had great service and the food was really good. We will go again for breakfast. read more

Prospector Cafe - a red glass on a wooden table - New American Near Me - West Wendover, Nevada

This cafe is located in the red garter hotel. When you first walk in you are a little in shock, the casino is old and not very flashy. However the little cafe inside actually has decent food at great prices! I've had several different sandwiches ( club on sourdough is my favorite) burgers, salads and cheese Enchiladas, all great tasting! And the portions are quite big for the price. The club sandwich is like two sandwiches plus you get fries. It's like that saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. Also the casino is nice because it's not crowded. I've actually won a couple jackpots here so it's not too shabby! read more

Pros: fry sauce, fries, staff, clean, beautifully laid out casino Cons: toast, eggs, potatoes, coffee, bacon, over priced for food and coffee. Bathrooms soap disp do not work, no water pressure to wash hands. Will not be back. read more

I have to admit after looking at the reviews I was a little bit worried, but after eating here, most of these reviews are totally wrong for the prize point and for the food very well worth it especially get the deep fried ice cream although it's very large so watch out, it's better one order feeds two people read more

If there is nothing else, then grab the food. The potatoes are awful. I guess they are saving money?

Prospect Food: 3.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Overall: A good deal for breakfast. The extended review... Food: Omelette - 3.5/5 - I think the best part of this was the portion size and the price. The food was pretty good and comparable to most diners. It also came with a side as well which was nice given the price. Service: 5/5 - The server was super nice and accommodating. Granted we were the first one in the restaurant at 7am...it was nice to waited on by someone that was chipper. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - Located inside the casino it wasn't too smokey which was nice. It was a very spacious restaurant with ample seating. read more

So the best value at a casino restaurant is the Prospector Cafe. 13.99 for Chicken fries steak and eggs. 3 eggs any way, country potatoes and plate size chicken fried steak with either white or brown gravy. We had breakfast for under 32 dollars ! Hopefully the remodel soon include the booths, they are a bit long in the tooth. read more

I've eaten here a couple of times. It's been a while though, so this latest visit revealed many changes to their layout. The dining room had been remodeled and there was apparently a breakfast buffet on Saturday when we went. The buffet had a made-to-order omelet station that appeared to be popular. I didn't try the buffet but rather ordered from the menu. I chose the build your own omelet which came with hashbrowns and toast of your choice. I also got hot tea for my beverage. The omelet included fresh mushrooms and tomato as I requested. The hashbrowns were cooked well and not too crunchy. The sourdough toast was dry as ordered and had good flavor. This is one of the better cafe options in town if you want to grab a sitdown meal at a reasonable price. read more

Utah Traveler Red Garter and the Prospector Cafe was usually the go-to for breakfast for early arrival from our no-fun state. Not any more! The food is just barely decent, though the service is generally good. Coffee and sodas have no refills! It is not stated on their menus and no apologies for not mentioning anything about it beforehand. Waitress stated it was the managers instructions. Well, manager, you have lost the business of four adult visitors!! In fact, your casino business is dead as well! You literally have nothing going on! There were maybe twenty people, including our group of four, in the whole building! Our bet is this business is on its way out! Good Luck! read more

Inside the red garter in wendover Nevada. The casino is kinda dumpy but this cafe has really tasty food for a reasonable price. Service has always been good even tho they are busy. There side salad with ranch is a good starter even at breakfast. Biscuits and gravy were delicious with sausage. Meats are good too like pot roast. Never a bad meal. And way reasonable prices then the other casino cafes like Montego bay! read more

As casino prices for food have doubled, tripled over past 3-6 yrs,Red Garter brought back a reasonable deal for breakfast. The old days of cheap good food went bye bye with my gambling money.Red Garter prospector Cafe is ok,not over the top,but ok for the cost, and the cheapest deal for any of the casinos in Wendover. read more

We should have checked reviews this time. Waited over 30 minutes and Al we received was a glass of water. Not a single additional server visit. Nothing. We finally just had to leave. I'm pretty sure no one cared. read more

First off the price is right. Rather than spending $30 per person at the buffet, you can get an okay meal for around $7-$15 a person. I ordered the blackened prime rib which came with your choice of soup or salad, vegetables, fries or mashed potatoes, and bread. Seemed like a good value for $13.95. I ordered the chicken noodle soup, and fries for my sides. The chicken noodle was pretty good after adding salt and pepper, the bread was warm and came with butter, that ended up being good, the fries were under cooked and soggy, and the prime rib was so disappointing! It was so flavorless, very dry, and super fatty. If you do chose to come here maybe try something else. I've had the French dip before which was better than the prime rib for sure, but for the flavor and quality of food you get, I don't find myself wanting to come back here anytime soon. read more

We pulled into RV park and decided we would get a bite to eat before setting our rig up. We had three different places to chose from so we picked the closest since we were walking. We started with a mimosa and Bloody Mary. Now this is a casino. How could you not make a great Bloody Mary? The mimosa was tasty but warm. We ordered dinner salads but they had no blue cheese. I ordered mozzarella sticks and I am a firm believer that these need to be fried. Nope. Oven baked. We will not be returning. read more

The Staff is actually the worst I have ever experienced at a casino restaurant anywhere! Our waitress Cassandra was obviously hired for her appearance and not her brains, ability or personality which she had none of or just flat didn't care!. I would have given it a 1 star but the food was not bad. read more

Walked over from a nearby campground for breakfast. I ordered the Chili Cheese Omelette, a side of Corned Beef Hash and a coffee. What I liked: - Service was decent - Corned Beef Hash had great flavor and was crispy What I did not like: - The Chili Cheese Omelette was VLAN as the Chili had little flavor - The Corned Beef Hash portion was really small for $2.95 - The coffee was only warm - each refill too* * We asked for hot coffee and our waitress did bring out some coffee in cups that were hot read more

Cheap shit garbage. We got roped into the $18 breakfast buffet just for stale EGGS and pancakes. Do not get fooled like I was.

Very hungry after a long day at work. Arrived 45 minutes prior to closing, waited in the lobby for 15 minutes and finally greeted by staff person. " I am closed except for takeout. I have been here all day and I'm leaving". Customer service "F". read more

Dumpster fire. The food is not something you want to try here. You will not find a lazier staff. We had to clear our own plates. Server was a very nice guy and you could tell he had never been trained. I felt sorry for him. I'd offer him a job. It wasn't his fault. He wasn't making the food and whoever is needs to go back to working at the gas station. Most uninspired menu and execution. Order the nachos for a laugh. WTF read more

This is the saddest place I have been in, in a long time. We waited 12 mins to sit down, she wanted to charge me 9$ for beans and rice because I have a dietary restriction. Then she leaves, other tables get thier food before us, that came in after. Then she brings the chips and salsa.... with his meal not before. And it's so little and sad I'm very disappointed at every aspect of this Café, I still don't have my food and I wrote this whole message. Enjoy the sad salsa read more

Pros- open 24/7 Good/cheap specials Cons-apathetic staff super slow service Overall, okay food within (back, left corner) the Red Garter Casino & Hotel. We've been to the Prospector three times: twice for the buffet and once, mid-week, ordering breakfast off the menu. The breakfast buffet is just ok -- though judging by the popularity you'd think it was the best thing going. The food is plentiful but honestly overcooked and rather bland. Before giving up on the Prospector we tried a regular breakfast midweek and were very pleasantly surprised. The portions were generous, the service attentive, and the food itself quite good. I don't know whether we'll go back for the buffet, but we'll definitely go back for the regular breakfast. read more

There was a time that the Red Garter's "Prospector Grill" was known for how good their Burrito Grande was. My mom and dad used to stop in religiously whenever going through Wendover just to split a burrito. This trip I was with my mom and she suggested we go their to see if it had changed since it was purchased by another corporation. I ordered the burrito and mom ordered chile rellenos. It seemed somewhat odd that it took them so long to cook our order, because there were only about 5 tables of customers, and their service ended up not being very good. I got my burrito and took a bite of one corner. The flavor was okay, but nothing to write home about. The next bite was a little further into the burrito and the shredded beef was dry and super, super tough. So I thought I would open the burrito up and try to shred the beef a little better. As I opened one end up I came across a large chunk of fat, and the beef was so tough it wouldn't even shred. About the middle of the burrito was a large chunk of beef and when I tuned it over with my fork I about lost what little food I had in my stomach. The large chunk of beef contained a multiple beef arteries. I immediately waved down our server and showed her what my burrito consisted of. I told her I would not eat that, and she asked if I wanted another burrito. Knowing how tough and bad the beef was, and how I had immediately lost my appetite, I told her that I would pass, and that I would not be paying for that meal. The waitress took the bill, that she had already placed on our table, and removed the meal from it. At no time did the waitress, or a manager, offer an apology, or show any compassion for what had been served. I am rating this restaurant with one star, only because I can't rate it any lower. read more

I mean....you have to be supremely drunk to enjoy ANYTHING served here. Was I expecting it to be gourmet food? Hell...no! But I wanted something edible. The first mistake? I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. What was I thinking? No...really WHAT WAS I THINKING?! Two bites in, the noodles were overcooked, the sauce was definitely canned, and the meatballs were grey! I get it, it's a one star casino but did the food have to be inedible?! read more

This place was terrible. I've been here before and it wasn't bad but they let this place go downhill. The buffet was cold, the service was awful, and the food subpar. I asked for maple syrup, which is given in little plastic cups, and the waiter literally turned around and grabbed it off of an unbussed table! I got someone else's used syrup cup. When I asked for a new one, the waiter told me this was was still good. Just. No. I asked to speak to a manager and there wasn't one. In the whole restaurant there wasn't even someone for me to complain to except the supervisor in the kitchen. After all this, and almost an hour of waiting for our food after we ordered, we found a hair in one of the plates of French toast. The wait was ridiculous, the food was nasty, the staff was dirty and combative, and not even a manager was there to fix our visit. Ridiculous. read more

Decided we wanted diner style food after watching a concert at the Peppermill Concert Hall. Compared to another at the other end of the Wendover strip it was a better price for the same style of food and it we thought the over all taste was better. I had the shrimp and crab omelette which was served with a holandaise sauce. Even though it was artificial crab the omelette was still very satisfying. Others had a build yourself omelette and a ribeye steak dinner. The steak was served slightly over cooked from what was requested but was still a good cut of meat. Service was slightly slow but I've noticed that's everywhere you go in Wendover. Overall we will probably come eat here when we come to Wendover from now on. read more
