After Central Park, this is my favorite park. We live about a 20 min walk from it so I try to come here as often as possible.

I'm from nyc and it's basically a zoo half the time. Not the best park in NYC by far. On one hand you have A LOT of wannabe transplants who are completely oblivious, obnoxious and ignorant. There have been numerous gang related shootings in/surrounding the park (mostly flatbush side). The entry points during the summer are filled with herds of people blasting loud music and leaving tons of garbage everywhere and will sit in one spot for the entire day. It's a large park so as you head inward to other areas it's bit more scenic and peaceful. If you want to enjoy the bike loop (running and walking too) skip busy hours/weekends. It's becoming dangerous with the amount of people who don't know how to ride with others. You will have small kids riding down a large hill wobbling around while the parent is in front of the kid riding on their bike. Times that by 100 parents doing this. Then you have the E-bikes zooming by, roller bladers (individuals and in groups), large cycling groups going at fast speeds, small kids on scooters, mopeds, e-scooters, dogs, runners, joggers and walkers. Plus various points along the way people cross the path or think cyclists/traffic can just halt on a dime so they can cross with their kids. SMH If you want more of a workout, ride the loop the opposite way ... obviously only during off hours! Feel bad for the turtles/animals ... water has a lot of garbage. A lot of (huge) trees look dead/dying. There are various hiking trails read more

Prospect Park definitely rivals Central Park in many ways. I definitely picked a bad day to be walking around because of all the marathon runners and cyclists. Sorry! I didn't know. There are definitely a lot of trails you can walk on and lots of geese, there are plenty of those whom I apparently angered and got chased by enraged geese for a few minutes. all in all, its a park ... how much more interesting does it get? I'll definitely come back in the summertime when everything has changed and get a feel of it then because right now it looks barren and lifeless. read more

I love this park. I live close by, so I come here to jog. This park has added me in losing 80 lbs. The scene is pretty beautiful. The distance I believe is just a little over 3 miles. I can take a shortcut to Park Slope (be careful doing this at time). When I'm taking the shortcut, there's a field where people lay down. A few feet close by are the baseball fields and the swingset for the little kids. There's also concerts that go on starting from June until early August. I've never seen it but I tried to. The park attracts a lot of people (not as much as Central Park). They're currently building a skating rink (roller and ice). I will try checking it out one day. The Prospect Park train station (where I live by) serves the B, Q, and Shuttle (S) trains. Parkside Avenue is close by which only serves the Q train. Prospect Park-15th street serves the F and G trains. The sight is beautiful. P.S. , be careful jogging when it's Memorial Day weekend or the 4th of July. You can smell that good food... and it will make you so hungry! read more

Sometime last spring, during one of my many walks through the park, a nice young man came up to my friend and I and asked if we'd be willing to donate $1 to the Prospect Park Conservation Fund. Since I had been frequenting the park on almost a weekly basis, I thought it would be a nice thing to do, and in exchange I received a nice teal sticker that proclaimed: "Gotta Have Park!" This sticker is to this day proudly affixed to the corner of the mirror in my bedroom, because, well, it's true. I grew up in Queens near Kissena Park (much humbler, no less vital to my happiness), and the importance of living near a grand green space in an urban setting is not lost on me at all. Prospect Park is one of the main reasons my roommate and I moved to Park Slope and a year and a half later I still love walking through in all seasons, communing with the kiddies, the pups, the trees...you get the idea. If the basics aren't enough for you, Prospect Park also boasts a lot of neat architectural elements a la Central Park, a gazillion little league games in the spring/summer, the dog beach (!!!), the farmer's market, fireworks, and a great skating rink. Yes, it's true--I'm in love. read more

I love everything about Prospect. It is a great place to go running and to simply take a walk. There are waterfalls and trails that one can walk. There is a pond where people can go and paddle. Many great venues for weddings. I'm addition tons of picnic spots and you can barbecue. There is a drummers circle which one can stop by on the weekend. The diversity of people and activities you find in the park makes one feel proud to be a Brooklynite read more

Prospect Park - Beautiful entrances - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

There only 2 Parks in NYC that are worth mentioning: Prospect Park & Central Park - Amazing Park for jogging, bike ridding, dog walking, relaxing day on the lawn or bench - There's always something going on here from a ton of dogs running around, concerts, fireworks, shows, running races - I've never felt unsafe while here but of course things are bound to happen if your jogging 8pm or 630am alone - Multiple means of entering the park depending on where your coming from - Never ran into any stray animals like (possums, raccoons, etc) - The lake is amazing - Recently The Park is ALWAYS crowded especially on weekends or holidays which is unfortunate because at times if your running you spend 90% of the time on a line or dogging people in groups/with strollers read more

Wow how much things have changed. I remember coming to this park over 10 years ago and it was totally different. Now you feel like you were in Central Park, all you see is a bunch of yuppies having picnics and playing some strange games that look fun. This park is huge, very well kept and beautiful. Parking can be a bit of challenge but if you drive around a few times you will get a spot. read more

Love it here. Where I go to clear my mind, jog, Bike, ice skate. Participated in different gigs. Great for photoshoots.

Crime is still rampant as it was when I was born in the late 60s and my momma would take me in a Pram to this Victorian park. And now like in the evil 80s and 90s crack epidemic young local gang banger boys are robbing and stealing and mugging like it's nothing. read more

YEARS!!! I've been running and riding through this park for years. For all of my high school and the majority of my college years I'd explored all the routes and trails for hours on end. The open fields, the semi-think woods, the "dog runs", the hills (oh how I hated them), and the runners/bikers route on the street that nobody seems to follow. I love them all. This is actually park of my cycling commute from work to home (home to work) every Thursday through Sunday..ride with me some time. I'm the guy that usually goes the opposite way on the Red Univega (sorry, its quicker to get home this way). The open fields are great for ALL sports, the bathrooms (if you can find them) are usually clean, the fountains are littered around the park, the people here are iffy but you get a couple nice one, and don't forget how happy the pets get when they're let off the leash in this gigantic (black and white.dog joke) play pen. My dog absolutely loves it here..even more than he loves the dog park in Park slope. Long story short this place is great. read more

Best park in Brooklyn in my opinion! It's huge and has something for everyone! We typically go for the off-leash morning hours (before 9 AM anyway) and let our pup run free. It's a great place to socialize and tire your dog out, as well as to meet other pet owners in the neighborhood. On weekends, parking is never a problem (we usually park along Flatbush Ave flush to the park). It's also a great place for a picnic, a run/bike, to check out the zoo, to catch a concert (many different genres over the summer months), to enjoy fresh produce and products from the farmer's market (Saturday), and to explore the trails and feel like you aren't in the city, even if only for an hour! read more

I throw a lot of bbq here great places just to enjoy the day . All kind of birds, fish, an turtles

Clean, nice. Really big park. Could use more lighting at night. clean portable bathrooms would be nice too.

I had heard fabulous things about the lovely greenery that composed Prospect Park, but I had no idea just how terrific this area really was. I had been invited to a barbecue in the Nethermeads region, which the map showed to be almost smack in the center of the park, a decent walk from the subway. Rather than groan about this fact, I was thrilled to have the change to explore the outer edges of the grassy commons. There were several paths for jogging and biking, as well as a giant pond bordered by a breathtaking events building. When we arrived at the Nethermeads, we found it to be similar to the Great Lawn in Central Park - a green valley circled by trees. The area was perfect for sunbathing, picnicking, or sports playing. Our afternoon in Prospect Park was a delightful way to enjoy the end of the warm weather season, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a more manageable alternative to getting lost within Central Park. read more

I Love Prospect Park, as good as it gets in Brooklyn, our little oasis. I visit Prospect Park often in the warmer months, I enjoy running, walking, riding Bike, or just taking in some fresh air. Prospect Park is humongous and there are always plenty of things to do while you're there. In the summer you can soak up some sun, have a picnic, ride some horses, visit the Famers market on weekends or take your dog for a walk at the "Dog Beach". During the summer you can easily find FREE concerts, Festivals, and such. One never knows what's going on at Prospect Park, this is why I recommend you look up their schedule online and visit often, even if it's to take a walk and get away from the hustle and bustle of our City Streets. read more

Prospect Park - Geese at Prospect Park Lake. - Parks Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Along with Inwood Park, this is my favorite. As far as Brooklyn goes, this is by far the best park. The things that I enjoy most about PP, is the fact that it is rarely overcrowded. Even on the weekends, there is plenty of space to go around for everyone. There are rarely tourists here. In the summer, the bandshell has some terrific free concerts. Sadly they have begun to put up a huge eye-sore of a fence around the perimeter to keep people from seeing in. There used to be just a small rickety fence that you could see right over. Regardless, most of them are free (or suggested donation) so you can go inside the perimeter. Unfortunately they started checking bags more thoroughly upon entry for alcoholic beverages. Bastards. The Botanic Garden is there as well as the Brooklyn Museum. This park was designed by the same gentleman who designed Central Park. There really is sooo much room here, that you can do whatever. There's ultimate frisbee, football, soccer, and even horseback riding on any given day. read more

Beautiful and a perfect place for a date! I'd recommended it to anybody. Ice skating in the winter, long walks in the summer

This is one of the biggest parks in the borough of Brooklyn. There the Flatbush Avenue- prospect park side ( Prospect park Zoo, across the street from Brooklyn botanical garden, Brooklyn Museum, The Brooklyn Public Library and the Grand army plaza located closer to the Flatbush Avenue side of the park ) and there the (Coney Island Avenue side of prospect park which consider Prospect Park west near the Films-Movie theater, Nitehawk Cinemas ) !!!!!. There a lot of activities located in this park there the skating ring turns into ice during the winter months and during the summer months there the rollerblade skating ring near the lake .there a boat paddling during the summer months, you can have Barbecues and Picnics during the summer months. there a lot of activities in prospect park: you can play Tennis court arena located on the parkside avenue of prospect park , you can jog during the street -road in the park ,and ride your bikes, roller skating , kayak , during the summer month inside the park ( during the 90's- to the early's 2000s) Traffic cars were allowed to ride thru the park for shortcuts , but cars are no longer allowed to travel in the park, excluding New York City parks and recreation pick up trucks. There lot of fun activities to do in this park !!!!!! this park is similar to Central Park in Manhattan borough. but the central park is way bigger. I love the Boathouse building its very nice Architect - Art building it should be considered a Landmark in Prospect park !!!!. (There host the New York Curl fest hair festival here, usually during the summer months, during labor day the Flatbush ave entrance is on shut down because of the annual West Indian day parade, during the new years eve event there host the new years midnight fireworks annual near grand army plaza side of the park , Rock n' roll Brooklyn marathon). very convenient by the mta transportation: Subway: (East side of the park-subway station) 2,3-Train .Grand Army Plaza. My dad calls me a nomad, my parents call me a gypsy and my sister says I run like Forrest. Basically, what they're trying to say is that I tend to wander off not necessarily with a destination in mind but just to keep moving and explore new places. Today was my day in Prospect Park and I was ready to see all the sights. Wrong! I only saw a few sights because Prospect is huge. It's definitely not as big as Central Park. It's probably a dot in relation to Central but it's pretty vast and for a brief while all I saw was grassy knolls, green forever, and lots and lots of trees. It's amazing Prospect Park is in Brooklyn. I felt like I was not in NYC but almost in the country. Maybe somewhere else in New England but definitely not NYC. There were lots of people solo sitting and in meditation state, runners, cyclists, families playing football, and people walking their dogs. I will definitely return in the summer time to catch some rays and definitely in autumn. Prospect Park must be beautiful during "autumn in New York." It's very picturesque and on this day I saw about seven chinese bridal parties taking their wedding photos in the park. Fireworks are going to be going off for New Years and in the summer Prospect Park is home to the Philharmonic. I am so excited for that next year. There is much to see, do and experience in Prospect Park. I barely got through half of it but my walk around the park definitely cleared my arteries and trimmed my thighs for the day. I could also feel the air pump through my lungs. It felt good. I told my uncle that I went to Prospect Park today and he said that it was a bad neighborhood and there are lots of muggers there. I felt really safe there and like I told him, "There's no money in my purse!" Muggers stay away from me. I don't have money and that is why I spend my days at free places like the park. read more

Been here a few times in the past. It's Brooklyn's best park, but I think Central Park is the best park. It's a really gorgeous park. It is a well maintain park. Plenty of space and clean. It's a great place to run, walk, bike, or just sit at one of the big fields and just admire the scene. I ran here for the MLB All Star 5K run. I was really impressed how organized the event was. Everyone had a great time at the event. I had a great time. I ran a 29:30 and it was my first ever run. Felt great. Beautiful park. Check it out. read more

What a park! I've been a bunch of times, but walked around the part next to Lefferts Gardens -- which is a beautiful neighborhood might I add -- and just enjoyed the experience. So many folks from so many places coming to enjoy a park. There are places for small kids and folks with dogs and folks to run and folks to walk and a biking group and folks with soccer balls. It is a great space in a great location. I'd strongly recommend it for kids, a date, a workout, an escape or people watching. read more

I love having this park in Brooklyn! The scenery is great for all activities. There are playgrounds for kids, winding pathways for walking, street area for runners, lake with boat rides, grass area to picnic or play music and drummer's grove. Drummer's Grove is an area of the park where drummer's join together. Many people join with thier own drums throughout the day and some people dance. The vibe is fun and full of love. When I went, they had stands with food as well. read more

Like the city's Central Park but this ones in Brooklyn. Modeled after Central Park but it doesn't have all the "flaws" that Central Park has... Supposedly the shape is more "natural" haha. Beautiful park, more intimate and laid-back than Central Park with many of the same offerings. Great for bike rides and running--3 mile loop with a smattering of hills in the NE corner. Prospect is also arguably more international than Central Park--you'll see Caribbean families barbecuing, soccer and cricket games, Brooklynites playing baseball and frisbee, in addition to the Zog Sports types. What to do: boat on the lakes, check out the Botanical Garden next door, watch the birds on the water, picnic. And the farmer market up at Grand Army on the weekends, of course. Free summer concerts can't be beat. Lovely! read more

This place is a 5-star park in every way! Huge, beautiful, and in the heart of Brooklyn. It's within 20 minutes from most of the neighborhoods in BK, but vast enough so that you can easily find your own little niche with no obvious signs of the hustle and bustle of the big city in sight. An equally awesome venue to find solitude in the woods as it is to share with family or friends BBQ in one of the many open spaces. The lake is significantly large with a good 5 miles of trails around the circumference of it. It offers beautiful scenery that includes birds and other wildlife enjoying their habitat. Also, pretty good Largemouth Bass fishery- the lake has a healthy ecosystem maintained by the park rules, Locals take pride in this park and people stay responsible to keep it clean. Don't forget the Brooklyn museum & Botanical garden within prospect, both great places that merit their own reviews! read more

Love this place! I did have an accident here a few years ago on Memorial Day, where some dumb woman crashed into me on her bike as I was jogging and gave me a concussion and a lacerated scalp. But it's not the park's fault, right? It was really crowded and we both changed lanes without looking. I really want to live nearby. I love running here, I love relaxing here too.
