We called ahead for to-go breakfast sandwiches before we drove in to Crater Lake National Park. 5 orders of egg, cheese, and sausage sandwiches were ready within 10 mins. They're on an English muffin so they're pretty small - you don't get a lot for the $8.75 we had to pay, but it definitely was delicious. read more

In a Benjamin Button twist of fate, the older I get, the fonder I'm becoming of stuffed animals. But -- twist, twist -- only the taxidermied kind. I can't explain it. Mummies freak my shit right out. And I can't see why animals would be any different. But there you have it. So anyhow... We're driving along, on our way to a five-day camp-a-thon, and Hey, you know what? It's vacation. Yes I AM gonna go out of my way to stop by a place called a Cafe & Trophy Room and boasts COMFORT FOOD on a sign coming into town. Sure, I might be a teeny bit disappointed when I realize that the Trophy Room is really just a bar, but as you've guessed, the thrill is back when I come to understand that the Trophies in question are taxidermied everythings. Turkeys. Fish. Wildcats. Badgers. One intense moment between a deer and a mountain lion is frozen forever in time above the pool tables and a poem about The Bartender. It's like the Safari Club Jr up in here. The drinks are mostly bottled and bottle-esque. We didn't have the food, but the cafe on the other side (more diner-y and with a separate entrance) does have a variety of homemade pies in a glass case. The toilets have little wildlife decals lovingly applied to the lids. The locals who are there at 3pm on a Thursday are surprisingly outgoing, but not, y'know, TOO friendly. I sorta outed myself as a city girl, when I caught a glimpse out the back door and was all, ooh, what a spacious yard! But no bother. The TV was playing some survival reality show. It looks like they have some regular dancing and maybe some karaoke, too. This place is the only place to be on a hot summer night in downtown Prospect, OR. Like, literally. You can buy bundles of wood and bags of ice here, which we did. Also, Prospect is the last place you'll get any kind of cell reception before you get to Crater Lake. So. read more

A must when you're in the area. One of the best breakfast since our 3 month rv trip began. (And we're at the end of our trip) Excellent Coffee as well!We also had come in for dinner and enjoyed the clam chowder and fish and chips. One side is the cafe and the other side is the "Trophy room" bar. Enjoyed meeting/talking with one of the locals, Dave, who helps in maintaining the café/bar. It was fun to hear the history of the place. This is a small town café with a small town feel. Remember to slow down and enjoy your visit. read more

I'm going to say this is a diner in the middle of a wonderful-nowhere and, as such, it gets the job done: I enjoyed a generous, well-cooked omelette. Granted they didn't have any of the fresh, local morel mushrooms bragged of in the menu (I accepted a substitution) but swapping out the triple-cream brie for cheddar without asking kinda messed with the reason I chose this item -- which is to try things hyper-locally sourced or different from my usual choices. Who here hasn't eaten a plain mushroom and cheddar omelette? Yup, I didn't think so. I'd like to end on a positive note and say their home fries are, if you like them that way, finely diced -- very light, golden and crispy. Soaked in water overnight, pre-blanched in hot oil and then deep fried on demand. Plus you get a shovel full of these tasty niblets. Services is fast, attentive and friendly. Curiously when I paid by card they rung up the sale at the exact amount -- without a line to include a tip. Can barely remember when that last happened back in rural African in the 70s. We had to scramble to come up with the appropriate amount of cash to leave at the table as our gratuity -- because it was deserved. I really enjoyed the atmosphere in prospect the cafe was nice the food was good the only downside was the bartender Lynette she was very openly criticizing other members of the staff in front of paying customers and really seemed very rude she also shortchanged me so I'm a little disappointed I think if they got rid of that bartender it would be quite the upgrade and I would definitely return but until then I'll keep my distance read more

The other weekend I had the pleasure of eating at the Prospect Cafe. Per Valerie's suggestion I had breakfast for dinner and had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious. The steak was tender and tasted amazing with the delicious homemade gravy that they put on top. The eggs and hashbrowns were just as delicious. The restaurant is very cozy and inviting. Visited Crater Lake, and stopped here one day while getting gas, and seevice to work a little bit. The owners were Awesome, and their organic grass fed burgers were DELICIOUS! Those buns were so yum. I had a great experience at the Prospect Cafe. The waitress Valerie was helpful. She lead me towards breakfast for dinner. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast plate. It's big enough for two people to share (depending on how hungry you are). The food was so good I went there to eat the next day. We had a delicious grass fed Beef Hamburger and it was delicious. The owners David and Nobu were so gracious and gave us samples of their wonderful Japanese flakey pie crust wrapped around meat and it was excellent. My father use to make these and called them English Pasties. Also had a piece of Nobu's Japanese sweet potatoe pie ... YUMMY ...... We will definitely go there again. read more

Homemade buns, grass-fed beef, seriously cool owners--what else could you ask for? Prospect Cafe is an American roadside restaurant of the most traditional kind. Hidden out near Crater Lake you'll find this little gem in a small small town and it's got the kind of atmosphere you sure aren't going to get at Fuddrucker's. This cafe brings you back 50 years in time in appearance, but then the food is very much 2017! We ate a beautifully crisp veggieburger and got samples of the delicious home made cakes as a bonus. Unfortunately after the burger we could not finish a whole cake, but we will come back for that! Also the owners gave us great info about the area and they served us without any rush, even though we came in 1 minute before closing time. The cherry at the cake was the sneak preview of the bar, which is now closed but used to be thé local bar and trophy room for Prospect. It's like a museum!! As of October 8th, 2018 the cafe has re-opened and is under the new ownership of Rose Hall, and experienced restaurateur since 1983 or so. I highly recommend visiting for a hot meal as the food is good and the service is genuinely friendly. I had the opportunity to visit and have breakfast just after Thanksgiving and ordered bacon, 2 eggs and panckes and enjoyed every flavorful mouthful. Stopped in for lunch on a cycling ride from Medford to Crater Lake. This is an excellent place for bike riders to grab a great meal before continuing on towards Crater Lake or wherever. I had a veggie burger on a homemade bun that was really one of the best i've ever had. Ever! There are energy bars, energy powders and energy drinks to purchase. I was pleasantly surprised! The owners were really nice people too. When you need to take a break from your ride or drive, don't hesitate to stop by. Whenever I return to Oregon i'll make sure to stop by this restaurant. My husband and I ate at the Prospect Café twice recently and loved it!!! We were greeted by the owners and were made to feel right at home. Such friendly, warm people. The food was simply delicious.
