Now called "The Riverside" it is a very different restaurant. The menu has changed significantly and is very limited. We were there for the Sunday Brunch on Mothers Day. In the past it provided fresh fruit, a pastry selection as well as egg, meat and potato selections. This offering was more like what you get at a hotel breakfast buffet: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, some potato dish and spring greens. No fruit or even fruit syrup. No pastry or muffins. It was utilitarian in presentation. Food was good but not great. The sticker shock was huge though. They charged $32.00 per person for the brunch. It was not worth that. The service was friendly and good and the setting on the river is beautiful but we will not be going back. read more

We stayed nearby and heard about this place from the hotel staff. We ended up visiting every night of our trip because it was so great. Not only was the food delicious, but the everyone working there was so kind and great to chat with. The owner of the restaurant herself is there working right alongside everyone else and she takes the time to talk to everyone and share personal stories. We got a different meal every night and never found a bad menu item. Greatest hits for us included the club sandwich with sweet potato fries and the cali burger with garlic fries. Cannot recommend this place enough. Definitely stop by if you're visiting the area. read more

This is very cool place by the river. They decorated pub area animal taxidermy. Diner has river view area for seating. We tried their burgers. It was delicious. Service was really friendly. Make sure to check this place out if passing by this town. We stopped here on the way back from Crater lake. A lot of parking available. read more

We were seated on the outside patio and had a beautiful scenic view above the Rogue River. Service was impeccable. Never had to wait for a refill. Friendly staff and Heather the owner greeted us immediately. The food was delicious and delivered quickly. We cleaned our plates! Meals were reasonably priced and portions were just right. The food was hot when it came out and made to our order perfectly. One of the specials was a Crab Cake eggs Benedict and it was very good. Others got The Classic of eggs and bacon with potatoes and also very good! We had a great visit. The whole restaurant is worth checking out with all the fun and unique things to look at. We joined friends tonight for the Chinese buffet. It was AWFUL. It did not look or taste remotely like Chinese food and certainly not delicious Chinese food. My best guess is that they bought some kind of frozen breaded chicken bits and poured tiny amounts of canned sauce on it. The various kinds of chicken were not good but the beef and pork was really, really bad: Over-cooked, tasteless, and hard as shoe leather. There was not a vegetable in all the meat and terrible sauces. And they had the nerve to charge $24 per person. You have been warned. If you are even slightly thinking you might want to ever do this, don't. Instead, drive into Medford and have really good Chinese food at Orchid Gardens. It will cost you a whole lot less per person and your taste buds will be very, very happy. We will never go back to this place again. read more

Its been a year since our last visit. The restaurant still has the best views of the Rogue River. The food is OK. I had the salmon for dinner. It was nicely seasoned with lemon and butter, but a tad overcooked. The restaurant's interior is pleasant, but walking from the RV park, the place looks abandoned. Here's hoping that this is a transitional phase. read more

Mac's Diner, you are cool! This place was next door to our lodging while we were on vacation. We ate there 3 times. 2 dinners and a breakfast. What can I say, we were not planning on visiting the same place twice much less 3 times! It was the vibe. The energy. I highly recommend! The first night we had the prime rib special. It was fantastic! I hear it sells out fast. Next morning breakfast. Also divine. Second dinner was good, not as good but still well worth it. That second night after spotting the slot machines before we stuck a 20 in one and won 70 bucks so that was nice. Service was perfect. That last night I met the new owner, Heather. We got chatting and she told me all about the spirit that has been communicating with her here. She named him Stan. Then days later a patron came in and told her how the guy that built the place was named Stan Smith. Goosebumps!! She says he is a happy ghost. She also offered us free dessert for our anniversary, very sweet but we were too full. It was too cold to eat on the porch overlooking the Rogue river but if I am ever here in the summer I will be out there. Thank you Macs for being a part of our legendary trip! read more

Wow what a gem of a find! There aren't that many places to eat in Shady Cove so I didn't have my expectations set to high when I saw they had a diner nearby my air-bnb. I was extremely impressed with our diner experience at Mac's Diner! First off coming here is a experience. The decor is 50's EVERYWHERE. They got these really nice teal-blue booth seats all over. And some of them are even on different levels. 50's themed items are drawn all over the restaurant. I wish I took more photos but I was just living in the moment. The food was great for diner food. The bacon was the best I've ever had. Yes, the best bacon ever. I wanted "breakfast for dinner" and ordered their "The Parts" basic eggs, bacon, hash brown, and biscuit combo. There was a lot of portion food and it hit the spot! Service was exceptional. The waitress's and even the busser was all super helpful, polite, and just seemed to be doing a great job. If you're even remotely close to this place I suggest you stop by. It's a winner for sure. read more

This place used to be our go to spot. The food and service was always top notch. The place was beautifully decorated. We had to wait 10 to 15 minutes to be seated. But the restaurant side was almost empty? We sat by the entrance. There was some blinding ceiling nightlight right next to us. The food was just awful. There was so much mayonnaise on my sandwich. I scraped off what I could. The issue was it soaked into my bread. It felt like I was eating a plain mayonnaise sandwich. My husband's hamburger was a chunk of charcoal. And the two friends we met said there's was greasy. What we also loved about this place was the 60's diner/soda shop look. The decorations are gone. :( read more

What a great experience we had at Macs. We stopped in reluctantly when plans changed and we didn't have a place for dinner. Meet the owner who immediately charmed us with her hard work ethic and clear passion for her restaurant. 5 people in our party and everyone was very happy with their meals. The food is excellent. Flavorful and appetizing. The service is as best it can be, good employees are hard to come by these days. The ambiance is over the top excellent. Especially if the weather is good enough to sit on the outside deck overlooking the Rogue River. Fun to watch the rafters float by and the changes in the river. read more

SERVICE. I spend A LOT of time in southern Oregon and have been to Mac's several times, but on June 9th I ate there with my son and when it came time to pay, I did so with my credit card. Problem is I never got my card back from waitress Heather. She said she gave it back to me - she did not. I searched my wallet and the booth and even the trash. Six days later I called and THEY HAD it in their lost and found. Heather promised to mail it to me TWICE, but it has not arrived after 17 days. I have now made a police report on the "Theft." Waited for an hour to get our food - staff kept saying they were soooo busy but there were barely any tables. Fries were soggy. To go orders were soggy. Way too expensive for what we actually received. It seems like every time we visit Mac's it's a different menu different staff. Get it together. We will not be back any time soon. read more

1st time since the new owner took over. It's been refreshed inside. The menu is smaller but they have nightly specials including Friday prime rib and it was excellent! Service was good. Stopped in for dinner not long ago. We chose this location as the river view is pretty...we've been there before (when under prior ownership). A Friday night and no cars were there at around 6, which was odd (we thought they were closed). When we walked in we immediately smelled what seemed like "cat spray". We got a window table with a view which was nice. Wait staff were friendly, but overall impression there was not positive. Out of some food items. The food was not bad...prime rib for me and a steak for my husband. No offer of horse radish or au jus and the au jus I did get (upon request) was nothing like I've ever had before (not good). Very loud rock music that we asked to be turned down (strange selection for an evening dinner restaurant on the Rogue River). Dessert was nothing to write home about...not warmed properly. I was bummed at how this place has gone downhill--so much potential given the location. Oh yeah, the drink I ordered was not made right. Had the meal not been "decent" I would have given one star. We won't be back until we hear that things have improved (ie we won't spend the money to not be certain). read more

Atmosphere, atmosphere, and much more. Mac's Diner is located on and overlooking the beautiful Rogue River in the town of Shady Cove Oregon. From Medford the restaurant is 22 miles North off of I-5 on Highway 62 (the Crater Lake highway) In the Summer I would recommend the outdoor seating overlooking the river. Mac's has tons of 50's & 60's memorabilia through out the restaurant. And the food & service are Very Good. read more

From the ripping chairs on the deck to the floaters in all the drinks this place was rough.... fish battered thicker than a corndog, slimy lettuce in the Caesar and did I mention all drinks had residue in them. The outside porch, right by the Rogue River is peaceful. It's dog friendly, too. That's it. Apparently, the restaurant is under new ownership. Service was horrendous! The server was inexperienced and really slow. We had to get up to find help. Once our dinners arrived, they were stone cold! Do NOT order the Chinese chicken Salad. For $21.50 it's a bowl of lettuce, dry cooked chicken, a few mandarins and an awful pink dressing. I couldn't eat much of it. I hope they get their act together, as patrons around us were frustrated at the lack of service. Shady Cove is a small place, and they need the support of locals. read more

Had lunch with mom at Mac's Diner today. Food was good, service could use some work. We sat way too long before having our food order taken and the excuse from the waitress was "I didn't know I was supposed to be serving you". That tells me they need to do some major work on their communication between staff members. Great service with our drinks from kitchen staff and busgirl though. Prime dip for me was excellent and mom said her cranberry turkey was really good. Amount of food was borderline ok for price. Sandwich was a fair size but amount of side (tater tots for me) was a little on the skimpy side. Over all I'd still eat there again. read more

we went to macs on friday for the prime rib. it is a quaint place from the parking lot. cant even see the building from there. it is right on the river as well. i was confused when entering since the bar area is in a separate room and i wasnt sure where the dining area was. the interior was old. they have elvis memorabilia everywhere and the styling was too old. it could be super nice with a major overhaul. there is an outside area along the river, but they have plastic chairs like you see at walmart. they need to upgrade them. the parking area was pretty full so there was a fair amount of customers. we ate inside and the decor looks like its from the 70s. almost like a nightclub. nice views though. there was a hint of cigarette smoke maybe from the old carpeting. we ordered from the menu and what my wife got was not the same as what the menu stated. it was also in plastic dishes. they really could use something better. i got the prime rib and it was priced the same as a much better restaurant that was closer to my home. it was decent, a little salty. i asked for ceaser salad and they forgot it and gave me a tossed salad instead. the baked potato was good. the horseradish was awesome...really strong like it should be. it could be really nice with a majot makeover and some better food. we will not go back, sad to say read more

I ordered food to be picked up. I arrived when I was told to be there. My order I was told wasn't ready yet. I continued to keep waiting in the lobby. Finally 20 minutes later another person asked if I was being helped. I said I was waiting for my dinner. Burger and fries. She said there was an order that had been sitting on the bar. Well it was my cold dinner. Burger bun was soaked with juices. And not very good. Probably would have been better not sitting for a half hour. Disappointed for sure. It is a cool place with 50s memorabilia all around. And it's right on the river. Next time I'll eat there and not get it to go as they don't seem quite organized for takeout food. read more
