Walked out of my car, horribly bumpy road to get into and extremely curvy roads. The cart kid asked me if I knew where I was going...instead of how my day was or anything..,then told me I need to walk around a construction zone to get a cart. Meanwhile he sat in a golf cart and watched me walk all the way around the entire clubhouse back to the range with my clubs. Course is amazing, service was less than stellar. Also ran out of all food at turn service besides hot dogs...thought this was a fancy resort....in prime time June....guess not. The golf course GPS screens were also set to the incorrect pin locations and made me miss club a few times...pretty much needs new management beautiful courses and properties. I'd rather play at Brasada or Crosswater for the amount of money this place charges for the lack of service and experience. The worst part is I truly felt I don't belong, was not wanted there by the staff, from inside the pro shop to outside staff...also $14 for a Gatorade, chips, and M&Ms. Are we in Israel? read more

Played the Nicklaus course for the first time on a sunny, fairly warm Saturday. One of two courses on the property - the Fazio being the other - Pronghorn Nicklaus gets rave reviews from Central Oregon golfers. COVID protocols: Only fair. They have the usual mask requirements in the pro shop but don't even attempt to enforce them on customers. Staff wear masks but the snack bar folks aren't so good on wearing them properly. The most egregious failure in this regard was the starter's insistence that golfers riding single in carts pair up because they didn't have enough carts. I was OK because my group was a threesome and I got the second cart. Other area courses seem to have enough carts on hand. Pronghorn is a high end operation - during these times of a pandemic they need to respect social distancing practices and provide more carts. - Richly designed course but with awkward yardages off the tee for short hitters, even from the gold tees, and a lot of hazards. Course plays harder than the rating, I think. This is not a track where high handicappers - particularly short hitters - can hope to score well. - Greens are in good form and roll fast and mostly true. Not as super smooth as I expected but it's early in the season. Some holes cut such that being above the hole meant little chance of stopping it close. - Fairways decent with few bad spots. I thought the grass was cut too short, though. Most of my fairway shots were from a tight lie. - Being in the middle of high desert sagebrush country, that's what you'll find if you stray off the fairway: sagebrush interspersed with lava outcrops. Best to stay out of that. - Quite a few water hazards, including a hole where the stream to the right is hidden from view of the tee box. One par 4 has a huge piece of water between the tee box and the green, tempting long hitters to drive the green. Mere mortals must hit to the fairway on the left, carving out however many yards they think they can carry. - So many bunkers. Way too many bunkers in fact. I think the course is protected well enough from the layout, water and sagebrush rough to not need that many bunkers. Many are quite punitive with high lips. Sand was average for a public course. You won't be able to hit PGA-quality sand shots out of most of them but you can generally get out. - Carts are very nice, electric, onboard GPS (which occasionally erroneously declared I was at the wrong hole), and super comfortable seats. No complimentary tees in the cart - you need to grab them from the starter's box. No complimentary white towels. - Cart path layout is good. Although the course twists around on itself a bit, there are directions signs aplenty. - Beverage cart showed up quite often and it wasn't even that hot of a day. - Complimentary range balls but the range itself is a bit small for a two-course operation, at least as defined by where the range balls were laid out. They could have opened it up more. Same with the practice green and practice bunker. All were a bit crowded. - Slow round - about five hours. I saw not a single marshal on the course during the round. I think the slow pace was due to course difficulty, not slow players. Still, I expect to see a marshal patrolling the course. - Snack bar closed at 3 pm, which is ridiculous, especially on a good weather Saturday. Why only three stars? Price, and unreasonable difficulty. I frankly don't think the golfing experience is any better than at Widgi Creek or Juniper or even Crooked River Ranch. Yet Pronghorn charges way more. The course is also too difficult for me. Golf is one challenge after another, of course, but my round was punctuated by quite a few well-struck shots that still found trouble because of extremely narrow target areas. On several tee boxes, I was faced with no good shot. At one par 5, I had to hit a hybrid off the tee because my driver couldn't carry the sagebrush feature plopped in the middle of the fairway. I can't not hit a driver on a par 5 and hope to avoid a double. That's not a rewarding challenge. 180 yard par 3's from the gold tees are also not welcome. As another reviewer mentioned, Jack Nicklaus prides himself on making golf accessible to the average golfer. He fell short of his goal at Pronghorn Nicklaus. read more

A great Jack Nicklaus course, Pronghorn is a gem just outside of Bend. The course is in great shape. The greens roll true. It's a great mix of great golf and great scenery. The only complaint I had was being able to easily get dropped off at the course but then not being able to get an Uber back to Bend. We got a ride from the hotel staff though, which was clutch. But just be aware that it's easier if you rent a car or have your own car to get to this course. read more

Sat at the bar for a quick drink to avoid a rain squall. Two couples. Met the new bartender who also is ( I think) head of the beverage department ( sorry if I have the wrong title). He is a true mixologist! We had 4 drinks each. Everyone had a different unique drink each time. He ask what we liked by sweet, salty, etc and he created something special to your taste. His name is Cody Kennedy. The BEST bartender/ mixologist I have ever experienced! Then we had dinner at the bar. Also the best meal I have ever had at Pronghorn! They have really stepped it up. Wow! Wow! Did I say Wow? This course is amazing! Plenty of fights for even the advanced golfer. This is a hard yet breath taking course that Jack Nickluas set up to pose some ultimate challenges for golfers at all skill levels (if you are a beginner, this may not be the one for you as this is a tough one). Snobby guest services, way too expensive for average players, poor resort layout requiring back & forth walking especially for seniors or those with minor disabilities. To show just how snobby they are, there is s GPS device on the golf carts which will lock/freeze the cart if you inadvertently drive a few feet off the path, like maybe for a little shade or as a courtesy to let other carts pass by (paths are not wide enough to even make U-turns. The GPS does not pre-warn nor give instructions to unlock... no one gave instruction this at check-in.... so plan for repremand and humilliation, much less major disruption. read more

We had an amazing day June 1, 2019 at Pronghorn. We played the Jack Nicklaus signature course and loved every second of it! I recommend the caddie Rusty, he is knowledgeable and can help your golf game if you let him. I also recommend buying water beforehand the beverage cart does not have water and there is only two water fountains for 18 holes. read more

Course was full with maintenance, ignoring all golfers, going about their job mowing fairways. Encountered six mowers on one hole, they didn't budge from their task. This was 12 noon on the front nine! I wonder if they ever thought about starting earlier. read more

Absolutely Beautiful! This Course/Resort/Villa are all top tier. I can't see myself every topping my experience at Pronghorn. The weather is phenomenal for late September minus the wildfires going on in the mountains, but they don't take much away from the rest of the scenery here. The villas are pristine and the upkeep here is constant with housekeeping services on a daily basis. Our particular house has 6 bedrooms and 7 full baths. 3 stories with the "crows nest" up top, which seals the deal. The 360 degree view you get from the top of the house overlooking the 17th fairway and pretty much the rest of the course is indescribable. We were lucky enough to get tee times on both the Fazio and Nicholas course. Both grand and magnificent. I don't think I've ever used those words to describe anything, but Pronghorn takes the cake. Both courses are well manicured. Groundskeepers fill every divot overnight to maintain its pristine condition. And even being in the middle of nowhere the lush green landscape filled with waterfalls, creeks, ponds and caves leads me to feel as if I'm in some alternate world. Being a super exclusive resort, it may be difficult to schedule a tee time or stay, but if you get the opportunity, enjoy golf and have some spare change I highly recommend taking a trip out to this paradise hidden between desert landscapes molded by the once active lava flow in the area. I give this course 4 stars as they've hit the mark in several areas, but fall down in a few. High marks. 1. Immaculately maintained golf course. Not a single blade of grass or pebble out of place. 2. Friendly staff. When I missed the restroom on 7, the maintenance worker lead me back from the 8th tee. Not needed, but very thoughtful. 3. Fair price for a premium course. 4. Great track. The routing through the desert is very well done. Sand traps are another story. 5. Greens rolled true and reasonable speed. Fast, but fair. Knowing green contours is essential to good putting. Above hole is extremely difficult. Needs improvement. 1. For all the great maintenance, they need to get the rocks out of the sand. 2. Fairway cut is too short for typical amateur or recreational golfer. If you don't strike the ball perfect, the results are far worse than the ball strike. 3. Fairway sand traps on a few holes seem highly punitive. By that I mean deep, middle of fairway, and placed just to piss you off. Jack Nicklaus always talks about making the game for the average player, but 84 traps is definitely for the low handicapper. 4. Cart service sat in one spot. How about driving around and finding the golfers? Prices were steep, so why just sit. 5. And to top it off, they were selling Diet Pepsi that was 6 months beyond expiration date ... when I mentioned to a couple people, they both didn't do anything but acknowledge it. Hmmm. Would I go back? Likely not, as I really had trouble with the tight cut fairways. Sure, that's me, but unless you just want to play an immaculate course, or say u played Pronghorn, try others in the area. Many to choose from. BTW. I play to 8 handicap, and have played many premium courses. This one just goes a bit over the top. read more

If i could give more stars for my experience at Pronghorn i would. Simply put this was the finest customer service i have ever experienced. I travel multiple times a year with family on golf vacations and my experience here was far and away the finest I've encountered. Aside from the customer service, the facilities are beautiful and well kept. The course is challenging from all tee boxes and offers spectacular views. It is a bit of a drive from Bend but it is worth every minute. read more

The golf course has some exceptionally beautiful landscaping, the setting is great. There are 3 restaurants, Cascada, The Trailhead & Chanterell. 1st the Trailhead- casual dinning with service by the pool. the menu is sandwiches, pizza, salads, and some daily specials; a soup and entree. Food is good, for some reason golf courses seem to have the best french fries. I like the daily smoothie speacials and the sevice is good. It can get a lil slow by the pool but then again are you really in a hurry when your relaxing by the pool. Kid freindly 2nd- Cascada, they serve home made potato chips while your waiting to order, Yumm. The menu is somewhat of a typical bar menu with some nice twists now and again. Sports is always on the TV, your thirst is always quenched and the food is pretty darn good. The french fries are different from the ones at the trailhead but they are still good. Kinda kid friendly 3rd on the list is Chantrelle, unfortunately I haven't eat'n here in a while but they used to have a crab salad with avacado and a tomato mousse that was to DIE for. This is a 5 star, exclusive, spectacular getaway spot. Recently went through an ownership change and is really building itself anew. During the real estate boom, the area and town nearby exploded in size due to the tremendous amount of access to outdoor activities and great weather year-round. This resort is phenomenal in its design and upgrades. The staff are friendly, providing their Bend-area welcoming attitudes to a beautiful setting. There are two world-class golf courses which we were challenged by thoroughly. The restaurants and bars served unbelievably tasty food and drinks. Of particular mention, the people have been so warm and welcoming, as a resort guest this is the "difference-maker" to me. Starting with Ian at the Concierge Desk, who goes out of his way to share his local knowledge. Then there is Jim the Barkeep, was a warm and friendly older gentleman. We were in love with the Sinatra Smash from the Wynn in Vegas and Jim took his personal time to research the drink and prepared a "local ingredients" version, which will now become a signature drink of the bar. You can't buy this kind of passion for service. Also, there was Breanna, a young student working for the summer and wanting to be in the hospitality industry. She was always friendly and kind to us and our children - she added to the ambiance. Each person had a smile and wave of the hand hello anywhere we went. The GM, Spencer, is a caricature of a manager of this type of resort, young and with dashing looks (I pegged him as Jonathan Rhys Meyers) with a wicked golf game and a driven persona. Well maintained and the service staff are excellent. The course provides 5 tee options and is extremely long from the tips. I played Nicklaus, which had one real signature hole (15?). The practice facility is excellent offering a large undulating putting green. Pace of play was fast. Twilight deal is $125 (all u can play) in July. I played 27, could've got in 36. read more

Unfortunately, this Nicklaus course does not get the credit it deserves since Bandon Dunes is just 5 hours away, But after being fortunate enough to play at some of the greatest public courses in the US, this course was still able to surprise me with its beauty and course layout. The picturesque background is exceptional and the course was in great shape. The 11th to 15th holes are as memorable as any great holes in the U.S. The clubhouse and facilities are first class. I had an afternoon tee time and I was only one of 5 people on the entire two courses. I truly hope this course and facility will survive because it would truly be a great loss if it was lost to the golfing world due to insufficient visitors. read more

I've had the pleasure of playing the Nicklaus course a couple times and both times were amazing. They make you have a caddy if you're not playing with a member, but it's actually quite nice. Their course knowledge is unbeatable and the help they give reading putts is great. This course is difficult and if you don't keep it in the fairway it may be a rough day since it's only a small amount of rough then scrub and sagebrush. The views you get of the mountains is phenomenal. It's pricey to play there, but if you know the right people they can get the price down. read more

We went back to Pronghorn on the advice of a friend to try it again, and we were not disappointed this time! The course was still amazing and in great shape! This time there was a lot of staff around, that directed us in where to go, and were more than willing to help at every turn! We had a great caddy (Dustin), thanks for saving us some strokes on a tough course and telling us how best to play it! We followed up the round with a delicious lunch at the grill! Our day at Pronghorn was perfect! Not sure why things changed, but service was much, much improved over our last visit there! We will be back! Thanks for a fantastic day! read more

Unbelievably beautiful resort. Architecture and attention to detail is beyond first class. The restaurants in the main lodge need new menu. Service was outstanding but food was not so good. We were able to do dinner, breakfast and night cap with snacks. Drinks great, food not so great. Will definitely return though. Tried the spa but am used to spas with more amenities like jacuzzi prior to massage. Treatment was good. I would give 5 stars if they change their whole menu and expand the spa. read more

Pronghorn has two golf courses -- the Fazio, which is private to homeowners, and Nicklaus, which is open to the public. Although visually very appealing, I have played more challenging courses. The main issue with this place is the lack of service, especially at the price you pay for a round of golf. The "public" driving range is awful, felt like I was hitting off a moon scape, plus range balls were not readily available. No course guides, no one to direct you to the 1st tee, no cart service nor food at the turn. There was only one water service area which was around the 9th. It would be nice if someone told you at check in or before heading out to bring water otherwise you may drop dead of dehydration as it gets hot out there! Other courses in the area have water stations at every 2nd or 3rd hole. It was obvious to me that this place does not want non-members playing the course. Given that it's in the middle of no where, a 45 minute drive from Bend, I would suggest playing at one of the many other courses in the area. read more
