While I consider the ability to travel a great blessing, I have to admit that certain complications…read moretypically ensue from being away from home. One of those challenges can be how to continue your workout routine when on the road. While I don't have specific recommendations for how to alleviate this situation in all cities, I can certainly provide some assistance when it comes to Bend, Oregon. The Athletic Club of Bend offers numerous opportunities for you to get that workout in when you're in town for a visit. Their amenities include 7 indoor tennis courts, an indoor running track, indoor and outdoor pools, a large spa, cardio equipment, weight room, a full basketball court, and 4 racquetball/squash courts. While those amenities don't necessarily make this place unique, there are two characteristics that do set this place apart. First, they openly accept visitors to the club. Many clubs are very closed minded about this, but not so here. Sure, you'll have to pay a guest fee, but it was very reasonable. Second, I found the members here to be genuinely welcoming. I chose to utilize the club for some tennis and I felt immediately accepted by a group of members who have a standing weekly match. After just 2 hours together I felt like a part of the group and left with names and phone numbers for the next time that I visit Bend. Sure, you can come up with an excuse to not workout while in Bend, but that excuse can't be that there's no facilities that you have access to or there are no friendly people here to connect with. And that's...Henry's Take. #bendexcercise #bendtennis #bendgym

Summit Park - Very small parking lot

According to the Bend Parks & Recreation website, Bend has three city-owned parks with tennis…read morecourts, and two of them are in the high rent neighborhood of Awbrey Butte (Sylvan Park is the other one on the butte, with Juniper hosting the sole non-Awbrey city courts). Not sure what to think about that other than I don't much like it. Anyhoo, Summit is a small, highly manicured bit of green space that indeed sports two new tennis courts, which are immaculate. Parking is very limited, which reinforces the notion that this park is for locals only.

This is a great little neighborhood park on the corner of Summit and Promontory. Within walking…read moredistance from many of the homes on the Butte. We ventured up their after spotting their tennis courts. We've lucked out both times and have had the place to ourselves. There are two courts, nothing fancy, but certainly do the trick. Benches for spectators inside the court area, nice grassy area outside for those who need a little shade. Plus a working water fountain. Basketball hoop, not even half court size, but works for practicing free throws, or working on your jump shot. Nice grassy area which is fairly level. Seems like an ideal spot for a game of frisbee, or picnicking with the family. Only one side of the park is actually on Summit Drive, the far side opposite the tennis courts at the end of the far grassy area. So, safe enough for little kids if you aren't picnicking on that side of the park. Has it's own lot with maybe 3 or 4 spaces and plenty of street parking.

Highly Recommend - A Real Game-Changer for This Former CrossFit Gym Owner!…read more As someone who owned and operated a CrossFit gym for years, I've seen (and programmed) a lot of workouts. I've spent years in the "trenches" of high-intensity functional training, and I have a very high bar for what makes a fitness program effective. I know what makes a great fitness experience, and I have to say: Orangetheory Fitness in Bend has blown me away. I've been nothing short of impressed since joining, and it's quickly become my go-to spot (even despite also owning a Tonal, Peloton Bike and Peloton Tread at home!). Whether you are a seasoned athlete or just starting out, this studio delivers a top-tier experience. The PROGRAMMING is smart, science-backed, and incredibly effective - a perfect blend of cardio and strength that keeps things fresh and challenging every single class. It's definitely more cardio-focused than CrossFit, but also with a MUCH lower risk of injury! Also, the fact that I can get my workout in at 6:00 a.m. is great - and having the flexibility to attend a class even earlier than that, or during one of the many classes later in the day is a real bonus, too. But what really stands out is the COACHING. The coaches here are outstanding: energetic, knowledgeable, and somehow able to manage three rotating groups ("3G") seamlessly while motivating everyone, cracking jokes to keep it fun, and jumping in with spot-on form corrections. It's masterful - I've rarely seen that level of attention in a group setting, and can't tell you how hard it is to manage all that effectively. But they most certainly do just that. Special shout out to Coach Stephanie and Coach Sebastian - two of my favorites!!! The STUDIO itself is equally impressive. The EQUIPMENT is in fantastic condition (treadmills, rowers, weights, and even stationary bikes and a stair stepper for those who may be dealing with injury or disability - everything feels new and well-maintained), and the entire place is impeccably clean, from the workout floor to the spotless showers, lockers, and bathrooms. I particularly appreciate that sanitary wipes are set out at each station prior to class, folks are reminded to wipe their equipment down after use, and the room is cleaned by staff between classes in the event someone missed something. The TECHNOLOGY is another major standout: real-time heart rate feedback on the screens keeps you in the zone, and the app tracks your metrics over time so you can see real progress. That layer of accountability and motivation is hard to beat, and unlike anything I've seen elsewhere. Additionally, booking classes is a breeze through the app, and I've even dropped into other Orangetheory studios across Oregon - they're all consistently impressive. On top of all that, the COMMUNITY is incredibly welcoming. Both the coaches and members are friendly and supportive, making it easy to feel like part of the group right away. If you're looking to get leaner, build serious cardio endurance, boost overall fitness, and actually enjoy your workouts, this is hands-down the best choice in Bend. It's fun, effective, and addictive in the best way. Highly recommend giving it a try!

Got there and explained (I was 12 minutes late) and was denied entry. Was told it was for safety reasons which is absurd. Cancelled my membership and was told I had to give 30 days and would be charged another month. I agreed and then was charged an additional month beyond. Went in to talk to them and got all kinds of excuses as to details on when the payment fell in the month so they could charge another 30 days (that is 60+ days of gouging). So petty and definitely a petty money grab to get another $80 out if me.
