This place is intense.You wait in line to register, get a lanyard, then get released to search THOUSANDS of dresses. You are allowed to pick only 3 to try on in one hour ,once you get assigned a fitting room (and then wait in that line)If you are lucky enough to have someone with you, they can return 1 or 2 of the 3 dresses after you try them on, and go pick another 1 or 2 for you to try, but the staff scans each dress you try and each dress you return to ensure each person will have no more than 3 dresses in their possession at any time. There is a man on an actual hoverboard returning all the dresses to the racks as fast as possible. So as the mom, I spent an hour running from the floor to the dressing room carrying dresses for her to try, 1 at a time. She had taken pictures of other ones she liked but that wasn't helpful since the inventory is literally like a revolving belt between the 30-40(ish) dressing rooms and the rack. And when they say you get 1 hour, they mean it. They come by telling you when you have 7 mins left, 4 mins left, etc. We had a dress selected to purchase, but asked for 3-4 more minutes to just try the exact same dress one size smaller and were told no, we'd have to re-register and start the wait again. Their business model is clever-create a sense of urgency to choose one dress to purchase because of a time limit and the availability of inventory constantly rotating in and out of other people's dressing rooms. They create FOMO. Also, because they create a sense of urgency, the girls are not carefully putting these dresses on. We encountered several with snags, broken zippers, missing ribbons to lace up, etc. Their prices were what you'd expect, $300-$400 range but are not designer quality. They are a well oiled machine, but too much so if they can't allow a 3 minute extension. If you don't like going to Cheesecake Factory because their food menu is a million pages long, overpriced, and mediocre, then you won't like this place. By far, the worst place to find a prom dress! The owner and son treat their customers with disrespect, unprofessional, and are extremely rude when you point out any flaws or defects in their overpriced dresses and attempt to make it the customer's issue. Buyer beware! The quality of these dresses equates to Shein or Amazon at best. My daughter went there with her friends to pick out prom dresses. When I went back to the store with my daughter to purchase the dress, there was a stain on the dress. I was told I had to pay for the dress first before they would clean it and attempt to remove the stain. So, I asked for the owner to write on the receipt that if I was not satisfied that I could be fully refunded, which she did. However, when I returned to pick up the dress, there was another defect on the embroidery that was black in color, which appeared to be scorched by a steamer or iron. These imperfections/damages were all done in-house, so why would a customer need to pay for a damaged dress before it's fixed?! Also, when I pointed the second area of flaws, the owner immediately got defense grabbed the dress and took it to the side, and came back within 1 minute and said, "It's fixed now!" It was clear that it wasn't fixed and she took some kind of fabric marker to shade in the damages. I asked her how she fixed it and she said, "Don't worry about it!" Read that again! She said that to a paying customer. She pulls out her phone and begins recording me as if this is going to fix the situation. It only infuriated me more. Next, she gets some middle-aged man which knew nothing about the situation, chime in and defend them. At this point, I asked for a full refund and told her to stop recording me and that it was illegal to do so without my approval! Also, after being called out for their atrocious, failed attempt of rectifying the situation, she had the audacity to accuse me of implying that I wanted a discount! I NEVER asked for any discount. I received my refund and purchased a beautiful dress with better quality and excellent customer service from Special Occasions in Batavia, IL. They are absolutely amazing and I highly recommend them. Well worth the drive from Lombard to Batavia. The purpose of this review is to warn others of Prombay's poor business skills, lack of customer service, satisfaction and professionalism, and failure to own up to their mistakes, yet accusing their customers of being cheap for demanding a flawless dress. We've been to several prom stores, and Prombay has been by far the best one in the Chicago area. Not only are the dresses inexpensive compared to other stores such as Peaches and Gippers, they also have so much variety in all colors/styles! Don't be overwhelmed by the selection, It is organized very efficiently and there was little to no wait for the changing rooms. The staff were all very friendly and supportive, and the owner Iris was so helpful in finding the perfect dress for us. We had so much fun there and loved the dresses we got! read more

My daughter found a lovely dress at this well appointed and staffed store. We loved the registry which ensured that, at least from their store, no one else at prom would have the same dress as she did. Furthermore so many of the dresses were creations we had not seen other places, so that was a bonus, as well. The staff knew their inventory and were able to match body types and dresses to offer great options for each customer. We would recommend, for sure. read more

I normally do not leave bad reviews, but I am today. I went in to buy my prom dress, and I found the perfect one. Tried it on, it was exactly the kind I wanted, black and princess like. When we went to pay, the owner informed us that we wouldn't be able to buy it because someone else at my school had already purchased this dress. Now, I do understand that this is their policy, however they need to put on the tag who bought the dress from which school. Because I had tried on this dress, loved it, and had my heart completely shattered. The service however is definitely a 5/5 all the girls where incredibly nice, I hope them nothing but the best. Went here with my daughter, and was a little nervous about the "warehouse" setup. We walked in and were greeted immediately and signed in. Dresses are organized by size and them color and style. Super easy to see what they have. You can bring 3 dresses in at a time, and the fitting room area is a little crowded. There are plenty of sales assistants around, and they are helpful. You will, however be zipping and hooking yourself, and with only four triple mirrors, it can get crowded. That being said, they were incredibly helpful with finding and bringing a different color. Great experience! Huge selection of dresses (in sizes up to 22) and very friendly staff. Everything was laid out nicely (sorted by size and color). We booked a same day appointment on a Sunday and it wasn't overly busy. Prices and quality were both fair - all the poofy prom dresses we were considering were in the $300s. I went here to get my royal blue prom dress and paid almost $400 for a dress that now is stained in white! The color washed off and I am very upset. Definitely going back here and getting my moneys worth because I did not just buy a dress that I can't even wear anymore. Mind you it did have a little stain and they did not discount it or do anything about it for us to be happy. The dresses are not worth buying here. It was the simplest dress. Visited this store today and absolutely will never be returning. The owner was completely disrespectful and prejudice based on size. She got in my face and basically said that her store was private property and that if we kept trying on dresses that "weren't our size," we had to leave. For reference, dresses that did fit well were not even in the largest size they carried. We found many dresses that did fit there but she kept coming over and commenting on the way the dresses looked. This was very rude and disrespectful because the dresses were the correct size and also fully zipped in the back. We tried to be understanding and explain that my mom was going to get more size options, but the woman continued to antagonize me for over 10 minutes, stating many times that the dresses are "just too small" or "did not look flattering on bottom." It was clear her intent was for us to leave. It is ridiculous that an adult would make a young girl feel so terrible and make her cry in a dressing room. Horrible. The customer service stinks. Their policy is that they don't allow children; however this rule is not applied consistently b/c I saw some kids back there. So, because I had my tween with me, I couldn't help my teenager shop or even see anything she'd like to try on. This was the best prom dress shopping experience I have ever had - this is my third daughter to buy a prom dress. Huge selection of dresses in every size. The staff was friendly and very helpful. We booked an appointment the night before. It was not crowded. Very clean and everyone was wearing masks. Brought my daughter here to look for her prom dress and had my three year old daughter with us as well. After being given the "rules and layout" of the store by the young lady greeting the customers we were on our way to find a dress. A male worker on a hover board stopped us saying that I couldn't be in the showroom with my youngest daughter and and they weren't insured for children getting hurt. When I asked why the previous young lady hadn't mentioned this and questioned where this was written he stated there was a sign at the entrance ( which by the way states "no infants, children strollers or infant baskets in the showroom of fitting room"). I allowed my eldest daughter to walk around the showroom while my youngest daughter and I sat in the waiting area, shortly after another young lady came up to me saying "you can't be here, children aren't allowed!" I had to explain that that's where the guy said for us to wait and asked why would they have toddler chairs if children weren't allowed in the store! Overall it was just a horrible experience and if that is indeed a policy, it needs to be clearly written and explained at the door before allowing people to come in. So happy with our experience at PromBay. I was starting to get nervous because we had spent last weekend looking for prom dresses at several well known prom stores. Most of which were a total disappointment. I was skeptical since my daughter said it was a warehouse, however I was very happy even from the minute we walked in. It's organized, clean, very well run, girls were very helpful and sweet, and they let my daughter take pictures which wasn't allowed at another prom store, and most of all the dresses while still expensive were not 500-700 like other stores. I was a little skeptical that a place like this could possibly exist!! The store is massive, it is truly a warehouse of dresses. Everything is sorted out by color and size which makes it super easy to find what you're looking for. When you arrive, you're asked to register at these computers, which is a common thing to do at most places. Then you're given a name tag and allowed to roam the whole store. You're only allowed 3 dresses at a time which is very reasonable. The owners of this place are so sweet and genuine. My only complaint is that the associates could have been a little more friendlier.
