This past March we contacted Mal to get a quote on new siding, windows fascia, gutters, and soffits, to go with some brick staining that we were also getting done through a separate painter. Mal was in line with other quotes that we had received, but we went with him because he had a more personal touch in his presentation and went out of his way to come to our house and get us samples so we could feel confident in color and kind of siding. Mal was professional throughout the process, was easy to get a hold of and talk to, and was willing to work with us on scheduling around the other work we had going on at the same time. The workers that performed the work were also friendly and efficient. He also reached out directly to our brick stainer to ensure the schedule would work for everyone and loaned us a sample shingle so that our garage painters could exactly match the color to ensure everything worked together. Everything looks great, especially the detail work around the doors and windows, and it is clear that Mal believes in standing by his work. When they removed the old soffits and saw that we had rotted wood all around half of our house (old soffits never had vents cut into the wood), he did not up-charge for the added lumber to repair. He also had his guys come out to fix the follow-up issues that came up, such as a few pieces that sagged and needed to be nailed back in, and a completely new fascia around our front door when I damaged what they'd already done when I installed a new front door. Overall I am very satisfied with the work that was done and it looks great with the newly stained brick. Mal and his crew excelled on a re-siding project for our house. It was a 2nd-story addition from the 60s, and had lots of odd corners - but Mal correctly estimated all the details, and was very responsive as we worked thru the choices and design. Then - during the actual work I was able to watch (working from home due to COVID), and the care and time spent on replacing rotted wood, careful and thorough work installing new insulation, and the craftsmenship of the aluminum work / bending / fitting around all the windows and so on, were all top-notch. He educated us on numerous options, gave us several reference homes to visit and a provided a competitive quote. The workmanship and attention to detail were second to none. The crew took care of the snags they ran into along the way and were very cooperative with my special requests. That being said, however, the execution was problematic. The job started much later than expected and took over 3 times as long to complete as forecast. There were weather delays and personnel issues and perhaps other issues unknown to us. A great experience! We needed new siding and gutters and trying to do that during a global supply chain disruption proved quite challenging but Mal navigated that path extremely well. He pointed out some of the poor workmanship of whoever the previous owners used and specified appropriate repairs to the contract on things that weren't apparent to the naked eye (like rotting wood under the existing siding, poorly pitched gutters). He quickly responded to my emails and texts and kept us informed of the messages he was getting from his suppliers. Many twists and turns, but realistic expectations were set and met and the quality of the material and work were excellent. Ordered the siding in April, it finally arrived in November so the the installers had to work on some chilly days but that didn't impact the quality of their work. He visited the workmen many times to make sure the job was being done right. Appreciated his attention throughout the process. Fair price, great work. My husband and I got quotes from four contractors before picking Professional Home Improvements. From the time we contacted Mal, we were treated with professionalism and warmth. Mal took the time to look over our property and explained his process and his product. He presented his proposal personally and responded with all our concerns and questions. He was able to provide a timeline and walked us through the process. I researched both the company and the product they were using for our siding job. The siding was the highest rated for our needs, according to an independent evaluation. The other contractors used a product that was rated slightly less. When Mal's crew arrived, they introduced themselves and promptly went to work. With the exception of two days when the weather was terrible (snow storm on Halloween and pouring on the other day) they arrived promptly at 8:00am and worked tirelessly through the day with only their lunch break. I called the company in late July for siding repair and fascia replacement. Mel (the owner) responded right away. He had a job in my neighborhood and he gave me a quote right away. I agreed to it. Here's what went down. He couldn't come out to do my job b/c there were storms elsewhere and he was too busy in August. I contacted him on the day before labor day weekend, he said he had family emergency. So I waited again. He never got back to me in Sept. I contacted him again in Oct, he wouldn't return my calls, even when I called the company's customer service 3 times in a week. Finally I called him out on ignoring me, he texted back apologizing that he's having labor issues. I have been patient and understanding. I feel he just changed his mind because the job is too small, even though he promised at the beginning to do so. So the entire experience is very, very, very disappointing!
