Seats were comfortable except for the arm rests. Of course if you get seated behind a couple of big girls who like to whisper thru the whole show, you will not be able to see the stage. Forget about going to the ladies room! I know it's an old building but can't they figure out a way to add a few more bathrooms? You have to push your way through the throngs at the bars/concession stands. Advise you spend the extra money and avoid the nosebleed seats. I could barely make out faces. read more

What's nice about Proctor's is it gives the Capital District a chance to see Broadway plays from the comforts of the Capital Region. What is not so great about Proctor's is the sound quality - every play I have seen here where I have sat in the balcony, I have had a very hard time understanding half of what is happening. Concerts and comedians I have never had an issue with, but the musicals are where the real issue has been. This has been most notable when I have seen both Les Mis and Wicked at Proctor's. Obviously when you see a show at Proctor's you do have to take it with a grain of salt and keep in mind it is not Broadway and you should not hold it up to the same caliber, but when both of these shows are known to be the best, I expect to at least come out understanding the story line, understanding what the actors say or sing, and enjoying myself. When I saw Wicked, I had at least already seen it on Broadway so I knew the plot, but this was unfortunately not the case for me when I saw Les Mis this weekend. I could barely understand the words over the poor speaker quality and it really made me miss what I am sure was a great story. All in all, the prices are decent for the show you end up seeing, but the sound quality in other theaters like Proctor's I have found to be much better. read more

Proctor's needs to address problems with their website. It seems that more often than not, when I try to buy tickets online, I receive an error message. This has happened several times now, and when I purchase those tickets via the box office on the phone, they've waived the 'convenience' fee, or as I call it, the inconvenience fee. However, today, after buying my tickets, the box office rep said he couldn't do that for me. It is exactly this nickel and diming that frustrates customers, and these two shows will be my last at this venerable theater. How much do we as a family like Proctors? Wish we could go at least 2x a month . Great Place, great History and even the (cheap seats) are fine to see a play. We've seen a few. In addition I went to see the Steve Miller Band here and it was great sound. They've done a nice job keeping the old classic looking beautiful and the Cafe next door is reasonably priced with tasty eats. read more

What a great little theater! We saw Weird Al here and overall it was a pleasant experience. Seats were comfortable and clean. The theater is small so even though we were in the back, the view was good from anywhere. The sound system was decent, and we had no trouble hearing. The only negative was that at the beginning of the show, the line to get inside was EXTRMELY long, I'm talking down a very long hallways and outside the door long. They must have some other sort of plan to get people inside right? But kudos to the staff here that were overall extremely helpful and made the show extra pleasant with their helpful tips and attention to detail. read more

Proctors theater is an absolutely beautiful venue! We attended Rodgers and Hammersteins Cinderella last night. We had balcony seats but a lovely view, I honestly don't think there could be a bad seat in the house. They offered wine, beer, soda, and water, prices were expensive but no unexpected. Proctors began as a vaudeville theatre in 1926, now features Broadway shows, film festivals, and special events. I mostly attend film showings at Proctors, and recently attended the Breakfast Club followed by Molly Ringwald Q&A session. It's a great venue for films, huge screen, great sound and they offered beer, wine, and cocktails for purchase to enjoy during the show. I will be seeing The Lion King in April and I can't wait to see it at Proctor's! read more

I had season tickets three years in a row, attended shows for many years before, and donated regularly. Proctors called my home number, not my cell, and sent a letter regarding early renewal of season tickets, but I was out of town and returned too late to assert my claim. They gave away my 5th row seats... literally. They were used as part of a lottery to promote one marginally popular production in the upcoming season. When I returned and enquired, Proctors would not package the seats for the other 5 shows for that season although they were still available, or relocate us for that one production. Had this not occurred I'd still be a season ticket holder and continue to donate annually. Proctors does not respect the people unless you are a very high level donor. read more

Proctor's is a great place to see a show - plays, live music, or anything else. I have been going here since I was a child and it is such a good venue to expose kids to theater. worse policy possible. I bought tickets to a show and because my father was in a hospice I cancelled everything for the next 2 weeks including the show tickets. They would not give me a refund. Sometimes people need compasssion and understanding not policies. Now they are out of $138 cause I went throught my credit card to cancell them and instead of refunding me and reselling the tickets they got me as an enemy. I hope this karma feels good coming around to them in the future. read more

My first visit was to see Wicked. The show was great. The seating however left a lot to be desired. My husband is 6'3" and couldn't even fit his legs between his seat and the one in front of him. He was forced to sit sideways with his legs infringing on the space of the seat next to him. I would love to go to another show but there's no way my husband will suffer through the discomfort again. read more

This is an amazing theatre. It is very large and is designed just like a theatre on Broadway. They also get all of the Broadway touring casts to perform here. After a show you go to leave, step outside, and remember you not at Time Square. Quite the experience. There can be viewing issues in the balcony, since it is such a large theatre, you are quite a ways away to begin with. Also, the seats are directly behind each other. If you are in the balcony, you will probably actually get a better view from the side. That way if someone is in front of you, its easier to look off to the side of them without snapping your neck. read more

I have been to a number of shows over the last few years at Proctors, most of the shows were great however a little pricy, MY biggest issue has always been the seats, once you have sat in one you will know what I am talking about. Since Proctors has no plans on updating them I started looking around locally and found great shows for a much better price and way more comfortable seating, Mac Hayden and Ghent Playhouse in Chatham, NY and Fisher Center (Bard College). read more

The acoustics are not so great. The hall is wonderful and the shows are wonderful. We sat in the lower double letter seats, and the seats are not large! I liked the view, but not the fact that the seats are small and very very close. The man next to me owned the arm rest, and with the small seat, it was hard to be comfortable. read more

I am attending a new show here next year and just wanted to say how much I loved the service throughout the process of buying tickets. I called a few minutes before tickets went on sale to ask about their website and received advice for how to improve my chances of getting the best available tickets. Unfortunately the website seems like it crashed for a while due to high volume, which isn't uncommon for these performers. I waited on hold behind 90 people to speak to someone to purchase the tickets, so the call volume was very high. But when I did get to speak to someone they were still very helpful and pleasant to talk with, so I'm really impressed with the service here! Thank you! read more

I absolutely love the performing arts, and have had so many opportunities to enjoy this location. It is just a different world when you enter it. Fun to look around at the giftshop, and then enjoy a small snack, before going into the main area for the event. Great that they offer online tickets too...makes things more convenient. And when it comes times to go through the doors for the show, they really do an overall great job with directing 'traffic' and I've hardly waited in lines there that did not seem to just be 'zipped' through by the staff there. They are absolutely helpful and polite and do a great job at the place. I love the history of Proctor's as well...neat to see how things progress over time, and what impact they have had on the community overall. :) read more

My husband and I had Orchestra seats in row GG, seven rows from the stage for the show Pippin. Aside from the seats being tight, both seats were in such disrepair it ruined the whole show. My seat tilted to one side and his seat had a spring poking him throughout the show (and we are not large people). The floor is not sloped enough in the front of the theatre so you can't see over the person in front of you, and the seats are not staggered so all you can see is the back of the person's head. The production was well done (from what I could see of it), but the whole experience was disappointing. read more
