I've been coming to the concerts for about 20 years now and I'm never disappointed. Today's concert, with Nathan Avakian playing "George" for the first time in the Main Theatre and Claire Avakian providing vocals, was possibly the best ever. Thank you to the American Theatre Organ Society Hudson-Mohawk Chapter for presenting these wonderful concerts. Did I mention that they are FREE?

I am a frequent flyer to Proctors, so I need to update my old review…read more Proctors is my favorite theatre in the area. I love the location, abundant free parking, plenty of fabulous restaurants within a block or two, easy in and easy out every time. I know if I have tickets to a show at proctors, it's going to be a great evening. I average about 4 shows a year if I can. I love the selection of musicals and plays they host. There is truly nothing like live entertainment. The reason why this is my favorite theatre in the area is the general etiquette of the crowd. Once a show is on, the crowd is quiet, most stay seated until intermission, there are no concessions while the show is going, the ushers do their job to control people coming in and out during the performance. The theatre is gorgeous and you are truly able to enjoy the show in this environment. I really love it here. Service is always amazing as well. Everyone working here is always so friendly and helpful. It's just such a good vibe. Could the seats be more comfy? Yes, but that's literally every theatre. I would love a cup holder too, but that's life. My only grief is that I can't afford more tickets to go to more shows. I love Proctors, and you will too.

"Legally Blond" I'd seen the movie several times, but this was a first for me. Same plot overall,…read moregreat casting, very good talent. But, as usual, the sound needed help. The band at times overwhelmed the speaking/singing actors, and sometimes it was just too hard to discern what the actors were saying. Best row is "E" because the row "D" is down about 6 inches, so you don't have to look around others' heads.

The theater itself is housed in an old synagogue. I hadn't been to a play here, however, in a few years until the other night. I'm a big fan of French cabaret musicians like Jacques Brel and was quite excited to see that SLOC was doing the musical revue, "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris." The show was set up cabaret-style, with tables instead of theater seats and a little fruit-and-cheese platter for each table. Each ticket was redeemable for a glass of wine or soda too, which I thought was kind of cute. The production was good, but it wasn't great. The acting and music was done well, but I thought it should have been a larger cast to really create a fuller, more theatrical sound. Still, it was an enjoyable night out and I'm happy to see local theater being kept alive. I'd like to see some more younger people in the audience though - I'd hate to think such a great tradition will die out with our elders. Prices for shows at SLOC are, of course, much lower than, say, Proctors, but they're also lower than some of the other local theater companies. They also do a lot of kids' programming, which is a nice way to get the youngsters into it. I'm subtracting a star for the crappy parking lot.

While the entire cast delivered an outstanding performance, there were a few who truly stole the show for me: Macduff, Lady Macbeth, and the Three Witches. The actor portraying Macduff was absolutely extraordinary! His performance during the scene in which he learns of the brutal murder of his wife and children was, without question, the most powerful moment of the evening for me. His anguish was so raw, so genuine, and so deeply moving that it literally sent chills through my entire body. His voice seemed to travel straight through me. I felt my eyes filling with tears, and for a moment, I genuinely thought I was going to cry. It wasn't simply watching an actor portray grief; it was feeling that grief alongside him. His pain felt personal. It felt real. For those few moments, it was almost as though I had lost my own family. That is the kind of performance that stays with you long after the curtain closes. Absolutely brilliant! Lady Macbeth was equally captivating! Her performance was powerful, believable, and incredibly compelling. Every expression, every word, and every emotion felt intentional and authentic. She commanded the stage with such intensity and conviction that you couldn't help but be drawn into her character. Truly remarkable! And then there were the Three Witches! What a fantastic addition to an already mesmerizing production! They brought the perfect touch of darkness, mystery, and sorcery to the stage. Eerie and unsettling, yet somehow strangely likable, they captured that deliciously wicked atmosphere that makes Macbeth so fascinating. Their presence was haunting, entertaining, and absolutely essential to the magic of the performance. What impressed me most about this production was how deeply the actors made the audience feel. Shakespeare's words can sometimes seem distant or difficult to connect with, but this cast brought them to life in a way that felt immediate, human, and incredibly powerful. This wasn't just a play I watched. It was a story I experienced. Bravo to the entire cast, crew, and everyone at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse for delivering such an exceptional production! The emotion, talent, and dedication were evident throughout the evening. Five stars simply don't feel like enough! I would absolutely recommend this production and cannot wait to return for another performance!
