After examining our gate valve and pressure relief valves (PRV's) he recommended that the PRV on the irrigation line was an error and should be removed (which was confirmed by a credible plumbing contractor) and he reduced the number of sprinkler heads in one weakly watered section with heads of greater throw. My yard was woefully neglected. I called 5 landscaping companies and only Pro Lawn got back to me. Darren was able to meet within a couple of days to discuss the scope of the project and he gave me a quote that same evening. He also included his services for several weeks to ensure things progress as planned. It was the beginning of summer, but he didn't make me wait long to get started. He cleared the yard of old stones, bricks, and plants and gave me a clean and clear landscape. Hydroseeding was new to me, but I put my faith and money in Darren's hands. To be honest, the first month made me feel like I made a mistake. BUT DON'T WORRY. Darren was with me every step of the way. He came by frequently to check on its progress and let me know he laid herbicide, or fertilizer. Also, if anything goes wrong, he's there to correct it. Let the grass take root. Once it starts to fill in, he is there to trim and maintain it for the duration of the service. I'm happy with the way it turned out. He's dedicated to his craft. Because I didn't get a written recommendation on how to care for the installed sod, I only remember you telling me that watering twice a day for two weeks only, not 30 days. The grass was tall and I had to cut it down slightly and then it started to turn brown. Because there are big gaps between the sod pieces that were not filled, the grass was drying up. I bought soil and have been filling it the gaps with it. I started watering twice a day since I last called you and some of the grass is recovering now. Your business practice needs to make changes, i.e., detailed written proposals and instructions and the time to do the project need to be given to the customer. I paid you big bucks for 3-4 hours of time to install my lawn and it is not perfect. Expected a beautiful lawn and it is not what I expected. Failure to provide written instructions and not filling the gaps between the sod sections contributed to the lawn drying up quickly. You didn't recognize that most of my soil was adobe clay and was hard when you placed the new grass on it. I had prior to you being hired, spent hours grading the abode dirt and hours putting Roundup on all of the nut grass using an eye dropper so that the soil was not soaked with Roundup. I didn't see any mechanical equipment to till the existing ground in your truck, only a rake and shovel. Failure to at least move 1" of the existing dirt on the top caused the new grass not to grow correctly. That is my opinion. New grass is growing wherever I add my own dirt. There should not be any gaps between the sod pieces to prevent the roots from drying out. read more

He gave me a range of cost as an estimate but said he thought it was going to be on the low end of the estimate if his hunch was right and promised to return to do the work the next day. The range of his estimate was based on locating an underground leak. Based on his 20 years of experience, he was correct, and my final bill was lower than the low end of his estimate. What was nice was that he and his assistant carefully cut out the turf and then replaced it over the line they had exposed so my lawn won't have a huge bald spot for a long time. He located a break in the water line which could have resulted in a huge water bill for me if he had not acted so promptly. He guarantees parts and labor for two years. COULDN'T WAIT TO LEAVE A REVIEW: I got a quote from a very reputable company which was completely ridiculous. After telling my wife she immediately contacted Pro Lawn & Landscape around 4:00 pm and a couple of hours later Darren called me to ask what I was looking for. After a short conversation letting him know what I was looking for Darren offered some alternative plans to save me money on what have been a waste. After several conversations, one of the text he sent me was "no worries you gotta get the most for your money. Even if you don't go with my company I appreciate the opportunity to present my offer, and that one of his goals was to educate customers to the best he could." From that moment I knew I had the right contractor and couldn't wait to write a review even though at this point we had never met or even got a quote. The next step was to come up with a game plan, get a quote and set a date. Darren gave me a super awesome deal but I did have another quote from a friend. At that point I let him know and mentioned that I was so hard since the quotes were so close and the other quote being a friend was do difficult to decide which one to go with? He told me "no worries, understand and if I chose to go with my friend, it's all good". I went with my gut feeling since I felt really connected and knew that I needed to go with him (mind you, up until this point I had never met him personally). When we finally met we hit it off talking about the property, plants, tastes, surfing, etc. Darren is a really cool bradda super competent and most of all super passionate! What I thought would be a few days work turned out to be less than half a day, he told me "this one is cake" no worries. We then discussed the scope of work & finalized the price. Overall, they did a pretty good job. Unfortunately, two types of grass were used, so one side does not match the other. We were also told that handmade stepping stones would be used, but we later saw the stepping stones as a stock item at Home Depot. In the future, we will purchase our own materials to be used so that we know exactly what we are getting and paying for. read more

Our "ancient" sprinkler system was not performing properly, so, on Monday, I clicked on yelp for assistance! Bingo! There appeared ProLawn with "rave" reviews! Quickly called Darren, left a message...only to have him return my call within seconds. Explained my concern and although he was working at a site, he arranged to come over after work to diagnose our concerns. Wow! He checked every single zone as well as the controller! He also detected areas which were not being watered. And, of course, the controller really needed to be changed, as it outlived itself! Darren then described what he would do to remedy all concerns. We contacted Darren after a wonderful neighbor allowed us access through his property to do a big project. Our neighbor's yard was damaged, sprinklers broken etc. Darren came and gave us a quote to re-establish our neighbor's plantings, fixing the sprinklers and added a whole other system to take care of new grass and hedge that was planted.
