I had a good friend recommend Dan to us because we (more me) wanted to rehaul our small approximately 400sf front yard from a concrete slab of boringness to a beautiful sea of grass. It took them 2 days to demolish the 6+inch thick of concrete and haul it away. They did an awesome job and I felt bad because I had no clue how thick the concrete was. After the removal they prepared the dirt and installed irrigation sprinklers to our existing sprinkler system. They also upgraded our ancient sprinkler box to digital which is so much easier to program. They installed El Yoro Zoysia in 1 day and all I can say, it changed the whole view of my front area. If you're looking for someone to landscape, care and maintain, I'd recommend Dan and his crew. We just wanted the removal of the concrete, add sprinklers and grass and we were going to do the other areas. Dan had some great ideas and suggestions for us to explore! Found Dan on Yelp and he was one of the few contractors who responded timely for a quote for a large project we wanted to get done. The scope included: 1. Leveling the ground on the side of our house and hauling away the material 2. Installing a retaining wall and vinyl fence 3. Installing a concrete walkway The before and after pictures speak for themselves in terms of the quality of work Dan, Josiah, Edgar and the rest of the crew produced. Finally we were able to move forward with our back yard project. Called Dan and he came by to overlook project again, since the last time he came in February. After going over what my wife and I wanted, we set a date to start work, which was within a week, and the best part is Dan informed me job would take 4 days. 1st day that dan and his crew of 2(Jensen & Khampa) came, they were professional and courteous. They started work, and upon leveling out yard they came across and old concrete sidewalk that must've been buried previously. I thought I was gonna have to bust and remove myself, but Dan said that they could do it. At the end of the day, with ground leveled out, old tree stump removed and planter & putting green formed with border, we could imagine the final outcome, especially after what we've had to look at it in the past. 2nd & 3rd day involved them setting plants, gravel for putting green, soil for grass., and on the 4th day, sod and putting green installment, gravel for planter, and setting of yard fixtures. Dan and his crew did an AWESOME Job from start to finish. Being professional, courteous, helpful, and just overall easy to talk to and work with. They cleaned up after themselves, took the time to explain what needs to be done to continue the look of our plants and grass. My wife and I are totally in awe of what Dan was able to do with our project. My before pictures says it all. Our backyard area just came alive and beautiful. Plus my 2 yr old son can now run freely in an open yard, and my 12 yr old can do some vball warmups. We also have an area to entertain the adults with a small putting green. My schedule is hetic to a point where maintaining my front and backyard were not fun and growing out of control. I got a hold of Dan and explained what I needed and expected to be done (yard maintenance, weed control, etc). The work done usually makes my yard look awesome. They even clean everything and put the cut greens into green trash can (usually it end up being full) and ready for its biweekly pick up. He gave me a price that was reasonable. Dan did not show up to the appointment we agreed on to provide an estimate. I waited over 2 hours, called and texted but he did not reply. It was very disappointing and seems that others have experienced the same issue. First off, neither you nor I could remember the price of the original estimate from the beginning of the year. So if you didn't want to take the job when I called you the second time around then just be honest and decline. You didn't have to make like you would be willing to come down and agree to another estimate and then no show with no communication. I am sorry if you felt like I wasted your time for the original estimate but I was genuine in looking for help with yard maintenance but I decided try another company instead. Dan's company is hands down one of the best contractors I've worked with over the course of my home renovation. What I love the most is that Dan gives his best price upfront. I never had to compromise or negotiate unlike most other contractors because his first price was his fairest price. His team also has excellent communication. Before each work day, Dan always made a point of letting me know when his crew would arrive, and they were never late. Dan was also instrumental in helping me add value to my project, and without him, I don't think my backyard would have turned out as well as it did. Warning...this guy comes off polished and professional but is anything but. We had an agreement to take care of major work and then perform monthly maintenance. He completed the initial clean up on our yard though didn't follow our original agreement but...hey...I'm a reasonable guy and don't want to be manini as most of the work was done as expected. When I asked him why he didn't cut down all the bushes we originally agreed upon he stated 'oh but you'll lose your privacy'. Not really the case but, again, whatever. So...couple of weeks back he asks if he can come by on Thursday but my wife asked if he could make it the next Tuesday and he said he could work it in. Tuesday comes...no show. Dan: Oh, we can't get to it this week. Me: ok guess I misunderstood our text conversation. Dan:...... (no reply) I then called, no answer. Texted again asking if he can call me to discuss work that needs completed. No reply.. I wait 4 days and try again, no reply to text. I wait 3 more days... me: Dan, I'm not getting a response from you...should I look for another landscaper? Dan: no reply I wait 3 more day....yes....I'm really trying to give him a chance but...what good is hiring someone who doesn't reply or do the work?? I send an email asking if his phone broke or is he just choosing not to respond. Guess what...no reply...surprise, surprise, surprise. I really should have paid attention to the 2 bad reviews for this shoddy organization...I only hope that this review helps save someone else the frustration I had in dealing with Dan. If you go ahead anyway...recommendation...do NOT get major work done first...try the monthly service so that you can test the waters. I hired him to do my yard, came about 3 times, did an okay job but would leave prior to the time I had to inspect the job. He left a whole bunch of weeds in the front unpulled, the side of my yard with tall grass along the boundary line, just all in all sloppy work. I paid him CASH. At first he seems like an ok guy but don't let that look fool you. The last straw was yesterday when I texted him to please address the weed issue in the front, he never showed up, never called and when I called him, it went straight to voice mail. I dont even know where to begin; I feel blessed to have met Dan and his team. My partner and I bought our first house and poured everything we have into it. Hired Dan to dig up my weedy front and side land a few years ago and now I have a beautiful lawn. I called again recently to have some landscaping dug up and cleaned out. He did mention that because of a period of bad weather, he was behind in his jobs. So I gave it 2 weeks and when I didn't hear back from him, I texted him again and now 2 weeks later, he has not responded. Dan and crew took on several projects for me: 1) remove 200 sqft of grass around in-ground fountain, border area with natural tumbled brick, divide area into quads with tumbled brick dividers, back-fill with 80 (50 large stone and 30 small stone) bags of river rock; 2) replace old french drain, apply edging, and back-fill with marble chips cover, 3) tune-up sprinkler system to improve performance, and 4) remove several large palm branches from areca palms that were overgrowing sidewalk.
