Dropped by today after 15+ years and was totally surprised it had survived the COVID shelter in place--since 2005. Sadly, just not super high volume with notable wait times. Did not make an appt--just walked in and was seated asap. Got my brows and upper lip threaded then my underarms waxed. Quick yet very thorough. The salon is clean and spartan. No frills. No employees or contracted staff that I could see. Appreciated the owner is able to thread but not with her mouth. She is also masked. Also when I was getting waxed I was ushered into a room with a table to lie down on that was covered with disposable paper. It isn't the most chic and beautifully decorated threading salon but it IS a bargain and you leave looking way prettier than when you walked in. I love getting threaded here. They do waxing (all the kinds) but I am not into that (it hurts!). I have been going here for years for threading and credit them for keeping me looking as close to a Bollywood star as a a Japanese American woman will ever get. I usually do my own eyebrow threading at home, but I was feeling lazy the past few days. The lady that helped me was super sweet and checked in if I ever looked like I was uncomfortable with the pain. I got eyebrow and upper lip and it didn't take longer than 5-7 minutes. The salon got me in on a Saturday morning before Christmas. The customer service is always great and they NEVER disappoint for eyebrow threading!! This is my go to place when I'm in town visiting family. Two reasons I don't give the fifth star is 1)if it's a busy time parking can be a bit tricky and you may have to walk a little ways down the block and 2)seating for those waiting for eyebrow threading can also be limited if it's busy. I've never had my eyebrows waxed or threaded. I had plucked way too much in high school that several hairs just never grew back. Plus, I got freaked out, thinking what if they removed all of my eyebrows or made them too thin. Well, luckily, I got Sheelo(?) who other Yelpers raved about. She put me at ease when I told her that it was my first time. Threading is amazing and is incredibly precise using only a thread. Discovered this place while I was grocery shopping in the area and have been going back since. They always do a consistent job on my eyebrows. I like it much better than Riya beauty parlor which is near telegraph avenue. Costs $8 and always reliable. I haven't tried any of their other services so I cant comment on that but I noticed that they also have waxing and henna services available. read more

I used to come here twice a month for threading. The ladies do a wonderful job at threading and I was always satisfied with my looks after I left. However, after an incident that happened last time I am sorry to say I cannot support this business anymore. Here's what happened: An African American couple came in asking about henna. The owner told them that they don't do henna, and that the couple needed to go next door. I know for a fact that Priya does henna on the weekends (because I have asked before), in addition there is a huge sign above the business that says that they do henna. So the couple comes back and asks the owner to specify exactly where next door they are supposed to go for henna, since the Priya sign specifies henna, and there aren't any other businesses next door that offer this service. Once again, she sent them away and did not help them. I have sent several referrals here and had always been satisifed with the service. Sadly, after this incident, I cannot continue to support such a discriminatory business. read more

ALWAYS ALWAYS.... ALWAYS trust your gut instincts. When I first walked in, I was not greeted by anyone and saw an Asian lady threading someone's eyebrows. I sat and waited.... and waited.... and waited.... while my meter kept ticking. 30 minutes later, the Asian lady was done with the customer. Should have followed my gut instincts. The next lady in line took 15 minutes and gave me the look of hell when her eyebrows were done but I was already in the seat. Bottom line short, this lady SUCKED... SUCKED... SUCKED!!!!!!! I will NEVER trust my eyebrows with someone who is not Persian, Indian, or Pakistani. I don't care if I pay double the price, but for $8, I could have threaded my own eyebrows. If you ever see an Asian lady, just walk out and go elsewhere. THIS PLACE SUCKS. read more

Argh. Worst threading experience ever. I was happy with M&M Thread Salon & Threads Beauty Bar already, I don't know why I decided to try this place (aside from the 4 stars on here). I should've known that right when I walked in there was a seat/ threader open and someone waiting to see one of the other 2 girls. I asked her, "Oh, is the other girl not as good - is that why you're waiting?" She responds,"No, I think they're all good, I just normally go to those 2." I should've taken that as a sign, but nope, I went ahead and sat in Rathna's chair. I've never been threaded by someone who did it sooo slow that it was painful. She even threaded off a few pieces of skin on my lid - in my history of threading, that's never ever happened to me. In addition, I told her exactly what NOT to do, and guess what , she did it. After I explained that she did what I didn't want, her manager comes by and hovers over her the entire time. Last but not least, everyone was offered soothing aids after, but not me! I definitely got stuck with a rookie. Sorry, but I won't be back to this place. read more

I have very attractive girl friends. Standing next to them combined with my not having seen the light of day since August 2007 when I went back to school, I really don't get complimented too much if ever on my looks. However, the one thing people frequently notice in what seems to be a positive manner are my eyebrows and it's all because of the ladies at Priya. They've separated from the Riya location on Durant, and while originally torn between the two, I've decided I like the service at Priya better and I love that they take credit cards (Riya doesn't). Parking is also a LOT easier at this location. This isn't a fancy pantsy spa-type place but they get the job done. You won't even need an appointment. Threading is super cheap, really doesn't hurt that much, and lasts longer than waxing with less skin irritation. read more

OMG. My eyebrows look SO good. I Frida the fuck out within three weeks if I'm not plucking religiously. My friend Amber C. took me as a Happy Tuesday present the other day. Fast and REALLY good. I'm pretty specific about how I like my brows to look, and she did them as good as I ever have, in a quarter of the time it takes me to pluck. Definitely going back. EDIT: I've been a few times now, with great results...The last time I went was not my favorite experience. I lean back in the chair and the woman looks at me and says "So, you want eyebrows and upper lip?" I said "just brows, thank you." . She clucks and sighs and gets her thread and stuff ready... (I don't HAVE dark hair on my lip, but suddenly I'm paranoid that I have a mustache)... Anyhow, she gets going and she's slow. Really really slow. Slower than a blind nun on thorazine. Slow threading is painful. Slow threading takes longer than plucking. She leaves a really weird scraggly line of hair an eighth of an inch below the tail of my brow so I can "grow them in" (no thanks) and a lot of stragglers that I have to point out. I give her $10, she gives me a dollar back. The other times I went it had been 8. She tells me the price changed AFTER the service had been completed, which was slightly irritating. It's just a buck, but lemme know first. I won't be going back to HER specifically, but I will return to Priya for one of the other rotating roster of threaders.. She has marbled pigmentation on her face (no issue with that at all, I just wouldn't recommend her work to anyone) Shieloo/Shielu (dunno how to spell it) is fantastic and works weekends. Sohni works mondays, and she's AMAZEBALLS. read more

Not to be dramatic, but... I live in Indiana now and I only come here to get my brows done. No one else is allowed to touch my face. Doesn't look much from the outside or on the inside...but the ladies here are wonderful. They don't say much and for a first-timer may appear a little less on the professional side, BUT they know what they're doing...everyone is very skilled in their craft and understand what it means to have shapely, full brows...not a thin line. Typically places like these have one or two really good threaders and one or two really bad ones. Not here...everyone is good. Other aspects that I like: - After they work on one brow...they check in with you with you to make sure you approve. There is a two-way dialogue. Before they take more hair off, they ask you first. - They're quick. I've sat in too many chairs where threading was wretchedly painful. - The price are very reasonable. $9 for brow threading. - They use scissors to clip off longer hairs. Lots of places don't bother to do this. - They obsess over the details...checking and re-checking. They want to make sure your brows are absolutely perfect before leaving their salon. I much prefer Priya over any hoity toity waxing salon. read more

Yelped many, many places before choosing this one. Called around 12:30 and got a 1:30 appointment for the same day. It's a small place, but seemed clean. Walked in, was greeted in a friendly manner, was sat down immediately, and Shilo got to work. Had brows and lip threaded. It was almost painless, and the results were ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! $9 for brows and $6 for lip. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I was in dire need of cleaning up my eyebrows, and was either going to get it done in Milpitas (which is where I was going) or close to home (Berkeley). After doing a quick search, it seemed like Priya was a safe bet. They also had a check in offer for a free lip threading. So, I was sold. I came in and could barely understand the lady, but I guess not that much communication is needed. But then as she finished, I looked in the mirror and WTF!!! My eyebrows were half the thickness they started. Perhaps I should've mentioned not to make them thin, but I have never had a problem with any threading salon going too thin. I was quite mortified. And pissed. To top it off, I got a rash from whatever they put on my skin before, and they didn't honor the check in offer since it was for their SF location. They didn't apologize, they just kept saying it's my fault even though I wasn't giving them crap about it. You can't see what location it's for until you redeem it. read more

But your face looks great and your brows are so well groomed that it's totally worth it. Ask for Dolly. She's friendly and quick . And I can go reward myself at Vik's afterwards. That takes away any lingering sting........... And yes, even with the cost of gas and tolls, I'd still make the trek from SF to Berkeley rather than pay upwards of $50 in the city. read more

I'm still going to leave it at a 4 but in reality I want to give it a 3.5 The work is still fantastic but I am really annoyed with the service I received on my last visit. When your salon is empty and there is no one waiting and you have two other threading artists with you, I think it's totally uncalled for for you to say, "Next time, make an appointment." If you're going to pride yourself on the ability to take walk-ins, I think it's totally rude to ask your client to make an appointment on a completely dead day. Just sayin'. read more

That was lightning fast! I popped in to get my upper lip waxed. She was just finishing with another customer. I jumped in the chair and told her what I wanted. She put down some powder, did two passes of threading and then put aloe on me! ALL DONE for $6. Minimal pain (I *always* tear up), no cuts and no missed spots. I paid and returned back to my car with 25 of my original 30 minutes left on my meter. As others have mentioned, it's not a fancy place. But quick, friendly and good service wins my money! read more

Services: full face and neck Bottom line: - As painless as it gets - Affordable! - No post-threading breakouts - Fast (no cuts, no missed hairs) - Convenient location I usually go to another place but decided to try something closer to home. When you walk in, they rub some kind of powder over your face which must be the reason why the hair comes out easier and less painful. The skin on the bottom eye socket bone (right above the cheek) and the peach-fuzz area (upper lip) were still a little painful, but not that bad here. I usually have to ask for a break at my old place.... The woman I had also felt my face after she finished an area to see if she could feel any stray hairs. Nice. Also, I usually break out right after a threading session even in spite of showing up with no makeup before the session and doing face masques, toners, medicated lotions/gels, etc after the session. This time at Priya's - not one breakout! And the beautiful thing is - I only used toner the day after. I did not experience any of the difficulties other Yelpers have experienced: I could understand them, it didn't smell, my eyebrows came out perfect, and I didn't get my face slapped (yikes!). read more
