Top notch care at Private Eyes! I've been going here since I moved to the area around 8 years ago. Everyone at this office is fantastic. Dr. Dizon (who is no longer there) & Dr. Hsu are both super thorough in the exams and explanations of all things related to the eye. Finding glasses that fit well & look good have been the bane of my existence my entire adult life. Jose is the absolute best! He is patient with me and does an amazing job helping me to find a good fit. I got referred to Dr. Hsu by a friend and it was probably the best decision I ever made. Dr. Hsu is very meticulous in her eye exams and she takes a lot of time to make sure that I have the correct prescription. Most optometrists have a difficult time finding my prescription because I have -12 vision with moderate astigmatism so they usually settle for whatever fits. However, Dr. Hsu goes out of her way to find my true prescription, whether it's employing two different techniques or seeing me as many times with trial contacts to see which is perfect for me. She also explains everything that she is doing, from the reason why she dilates my pupils to the material that my contact lenses are made out of. And honestly, who doesn't benefit from knowing more about their body and health? Finally, there was one incident that sets Dr. Hsu apart from most optometrists. She referred me to TLC for a Lasik consultation. She explained that I probably would not achieve 20/20 vision with Lasik but that it would lower my prescription dramatically so that I would not be so dependent on glasses and/or contacts. Her office set up the consult for me and requested that I meet with Dr. Tooma, a pioneer in the Lasik world. However, when I arrived at TLC a number of things went awry, including my consult which did not include Dr. Tooma. After reviewing my chart very briefly, one of many doctors at TLC told me that I could not receive Lasik and instead recommended another procedure which was much more invasive than Lasik. When asked if there were any other alternatives, she curtly replied no and told me to ask her assistant for more information before she left the room. And because this doctor told me that this invasive procedure was my only option, I wanted some information so I could make an informed decision. Unfornuately, I was told that the office I was in only dealt with Lasik, and that the information I was asking for was upstairs (both floors comprise the same medical group). I waited for the assistant to offer getting me a pamphlet from upstairs, but she just told me that I could look it up on Google if I wanted more information. After asking her and another doctor three times for a reliable website or medical journals, I left with one website which had been reluctantly given due to my persistence. As soon as I left, I called Dr. Hsu and told her that I would have to be fitted for new contacts while I considered the invasive procedure. She asked if I had been offered under correction and I told her that all I'd been told was that Lasik was not an option for me. She contacted the TLC office immediately and let them know what happened. She also went to the TLC office to speak with Dr. Tooma directly and went over my chart with him personally. I received a phone call from Dr. Tooma that day apologizing for my experience and that partial correction should have been offered during my consult. He asked to meet with me personally and assured me that Lasik would be possible for me and it would provide a dramatic difference in my vision. It's amazing to have a doctor who is advocates for you on such a personal level because this doesn't happen very much these days. I've referred Dr. Hsu to my sister and my boyfriend, and they have all received the same quality of care that I have. They both were seeing Costco optometrists previously, and have noted a drastic difference in the quality of care that they receive from her. From the moment I booked my appt, they were very nice and flexible with appt times. I walked in and was greeted and they made the paperwork very easy for me. The Dr... was SUPER sweet! She is very thorough and explained everything to me.. about the health of my eyes.. the reason I dont see sharply.. and just made the appt very fun. She really takes the time to get to know her patients.. she wants to know what you like, your hobbies.. which is what I look for in a dr.. someone who really cares about thier patients. The exam didnt take long and the gentleman who helped me with the glasses was super sweet.. he is very knowlageable about all the frames and never rushes you... he wants you to be happy with your glasses. I love this place. Switched to it last year because they have evening and weekend appointments. My doc was running a little behind so one of the employees offered to clean and straighten out my glasses while I waited. I've never had such great service any where else. I've never written a review but felt compelled to write this one. I've been wearing glasses since I was in 5th grade (I'm now 31) and this is by far the best optometry place I've ever been to. Dr. Dizon offers the most comprehensive exam. For example, every time I've tried new eye products such as contact lenses, she makes sure to check my eyes the next week to see how they're faring. I've never had an optometrist do that before. Dr. Dizon truly cares about your eyes and takes time to educate you about them. She also respects your time and never makes you wait for an appointment. I live in Yorba Linda but work near this office and called about stopping by to have my glasses adjusted on my lunch break because they were falling down my face and I was dizzy all day. They fit me in no problem even though I had never been here and adjusted them quickly. About an hour later they started falling down my face again so I called and they let me stop by after I got off at 630 and redid them for me, no charge either time. Amazing office staff and customer service! They took me as a walk in, first time, new patient and was immediately able to be seen. Staff is cheerful, helpful and professional. Dr. Hsu is fantastic! She is thorough and explains everything she is doing and the reason for doing it. Gave me several options afterwards from prescription sunglasses, to new reading glasses to contacts. The hardest part was deciding what to do first, but there was no pressure from staff and they were extremely patient in letting me take my time to think about it, try on different frames and finally make my decision. Our family has been going to Dr. Hsu for a number of years now. She is extremely thorough, I have actually learned quite a bit about eye health from her. Besides being a fantastic optometrist, she's also great with kids and is a lovely and warm person. Truly I should have written this review a long time ago. Today I saw her and she was running 15 minutes behind (which I have never experienced here), so she gave me a Starbucks gift card and asked me to go nextdoor and grab myself a coffee on her. Came in about a month ago and asked for help with sunglasses. I've only ever had cheap sunglasses and decided it was time to get a pair of Maui Jim's to see if the hype was really worth it. I had a plethora of questions, and the ladies (Sarah and Abbie I think) at the front desk were so so SO helpful in accommodating my needs. I've been using Dr. Hsu for 2 years now and I can't imagine using another optometrist. She has an incredibly through staff and she herself goes above and beyond serving her patients. I started seeing an optometrist because of an eye injury I had at work. Not only did she see notice the injury without me telling her, she inquired as to how it happened and what eye doctor I had seen. She took the time to listen to every weird problem I thought I was having and was able to explain and treat each one. Her office staff was extremely patient and helpful from the appointment process to picking a pair of glasses that I was comfortable with (Which is very hard because I'm terribly picky). I'll continue to use Dr. Hsu as long as she has her own practice and I'll refer all my friends to her as well. read more

I may be biased because I haven't had a thorough eye exam in about 14 years. I found Private Eyes through Yelp and was very happy with my visit. I really wanted a good examination because I am in front of a computer for 8+ hours a day and then at home. I also game quite a bit for recreation AND write computer music which equals...more computer time. Even now I am, well, you understand. I was impressed with the technology, friendly staff and very prompt service. My exam felt very thorough and the Dr. took time to explain to me in detail what my issues were. The gentleman who assisted me with fittings for frames was very patient with me since I couldn't really see anything after having my eyes medical part of the exam. I was very nervous about having to wear eye glasses and left the office feeling like I made a great decision with the help of some very caring people...who all want to make sure you take them up on their offer for free drinks from their mini fridge lol, too cool. One additional mention is the Optometrist, Dr Hsu has a great personality. It was great to feel connected to the person who was in charge of my eyes and it all felt natural. Wow. Sadly, I've had glasses since 1st grade so I've seen my share of optometrists. Dr Hsu is by far the most informative and patient doctor I have seen. She is amazingly thorough, does not rush you, accommodating, and kind! Her staff is competent and friendly which make a big difference. I've went through dozens of optometrists over the years, since my eyes are sensitive, I have odd shaped eyeballs, high prescription, it makes it hard to be comfortable wearing contacts for more than 8 hours. But since I'm working, I need to be able to wear my contacts for at least 8 hours or more. Dr. Hsu was able to find the right pair of contacts for me that solved my years of discomfort and now I when I wear contacts it doesn't even feel like I'm wearing it ! What a nice feeling to have ! On top of being able to find a right pair of contacts, she also spotted something abnormal while looking at the optic nerve and refer me to a specialist. other optometrist never told me anything was wrong when they examined my eye. Had I gone and saw Dr. Hsu sooner, perhaps this condition would have been discovered earlier. Now that I found Dr. Hsu, I don't need to keep looking for a good optometrist. I have been going to this optometry practice for three years now. Five stars - would recommend to friends and family - I found them thanks to Yelp! My first visit I saw Dr. Hsu, then while she was on maternity leave I saw Dr. Dizon, who I have seen in all subsequent visits, but both doctors are friendly, caring, and skilled with great credentials so I would be happy seeing either of them again next year. When I come into the office, Sanna is always behind the desk. She remembers me and is always highly organized. They are highly responsive to email; this year it was not a problem to adjust my appointment to a later day only a week or two in advance via email. Their forms are easy and very comprehensive; while you fill out your forms or wait, there is water and tea for you in the little mini fridge and tiny candies on the desk. She always makes sure you know what is included in your visit or with your insurance; for instance if it's time to dilate your eyes but it is not a good day to do so, you can schedule a separate appointment to do that part of the exam without having to pay a second co-pay. (And this year they have another option, a new machine that takes a hi-res scan of the back of your eye at multiple layers, that eliminates the need to dilate. It was worth the higher co-pay IMO, but I hope in the future it becomes so common that the cost goes down or my insurance covers more of it.) When I was having extreme dryness in my eyes during the first time I visited, Dr. Hsu gave me a regimen to prevent possible infections and wanted to see me again in a month to make sure it was working. That second visit required another appointment but it was included with my first exam at no extra charge because the doctors and staff here are so caring and really just want to keep tabs on your eye health! Jose is the optician who helps you select frames and lenses and orders them and adjusts them to fit you. He is so friendly and always chats to me while I see him. I have been in a couple extra times to get sunglasses, lens replacements, etc, and he always makes sure I know what's covered in my insurance and what things are under warranty. He's helped me select the frames for both my eyeglasses and sunglasses, and I am constantly getting complemented on them, so he has great taste! I would say the downside to this practice is in frames selection. They carry a limited number of brands and they tend to be higher end. I went in looking for something affordable and really the lowest cost brand I have found here is Ray-Ban. If you are looking for a brand that is fully covered by your insurance, or just want a very large selection, you may have to get your prescription written down and go elsewhere. (Coscto?) However, I will say that the brands they do stock are high quality with a wide range of styles both trendy and classic. Mostly the brands seem to be the ones made by Luxottica. I wish they stocked independent manufactures such as Fetch and Warby Parker, but the only indie brand is SALT. which has great design and is a CA based company, but is very pricey. If I had the money, I would buy SALT. from here, but I don't, so next year I'll be coming in with my own indie frames already in hand. TL;DR: You can't get better than this for staff and doctors. Be warned that they only carry pricey frame brands if you are on a budget. read more

I decided to schedule an appointment here after reading all the great reviews on yelp. It was wonderful. My whole family has eye issues but I never had any as a child. Now that I work full time on a computer and go to school full time my eyes and head were killing me! Everyone at this office made me feel comfortable and like I mattered. Sanna was so nice and her voice is so soothing! Dr. Dizon was also great. I am a little uneasy about tests and stuff with my eyes; it just makes me nervous and everyone here made me feel so much better. Plus, I got really cute Juicy frames for my prescription. My employer changed our insurance and now PE isn't covered. I am devastated, plain and simple. When I called to beg them to take my new insurance, the gentleman in the phone couldn't get me covered, but was nice enough to offer a referral to another good optometrist in the area. Went in today with my husband for our annual eye exam. Upon entering the office we were greeted with such a friendly staff. Did not wait long before we were taken back for some routine test. Test were performed with the latest technology, which initially drew us to the office. Dr. Hsu warmly greeted me after finishing my test. During her evaluation she educated me about why and what she was doing without me even asking. She also gave me additional info regarding my 13 month old daughters vision. She is very personable, professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about her profession. She is very thorough, which I appreciate! Thank you for being such an amazing doctor.
