I went in about two weeks ago for an exam and everyone there was very nice. All of the testing was digital and I could honestly feel the passion Dr. Vansuch has for eye health. The doctor himself was very easy to talk to, straight-forward and was not at all sales pitchy. He explained everything thoroughly and in terms I could understand. I, like I assume most people, have a "thing" about touching my eye. So when the doctor suggest contacts my defenses immediately went up. Fortunate and unfortunately my vision is poor enough to warrant contact lenses free of charge. So the doctor and has team offered to help me, as long as required, learn to put in and take out contacts it's as much ease as I could possibly allow myself. I wish I had seen Dr. Vansuch much sooner. He is definitely someone I would recommend to anyone concerned with not only their vision, but the Heath of their eyes. read more

I had my appointment and asked if my insurance was verified since this was my first appointment with this new pffice. I must say I experience bad service from the front office girl. I made my appointment and was told my insurance was not verified since the lady was not in the office but that they would have my insurance would be verified by the time I arrived to my appointment. They gave me every excuse possible that they did not verified my insurance, then that it would take them a long time to verify my insurance, then that the lady was not in, then that the lady was busy. The girl then came back and said you can wait 30 minutes since the insurance takes for ever to get in touch with. I told jer I vould not wait she said I could leave so I walked out after all the excuses given to me. I called my insurance for a list of doctors and I gor in touch with my insirance in 4 minutes and verified my coverage availability and got a new list of doctors. I cant review the doctor or prices since I never made it past the waiting room after 25 minutes. I see good reviews but if this is how they treat new patients I dont recommend them. I went to Vansuch vision center to get my first pair of glasses. The staff was very kind and patient with answering my questions. They were also simply very nice. Dr Vansuch was way cool and totally put me at ease! Overall a great experience get tested for a new pair of glasses. Today I picked up my new glasses and I am very happy with them! We were traveling in the area and my spouse had his glasses lose a screw, making them unwearable. I called Dr Vansuch's office inquiring whether they had a tool kit so he could replace the screw. The person on the call indicated we could come to the office and see if the eyeglasses could be repaired. We did so and left the glasses to be inspected. This is one of those optometrist offices that holds your actual paper prescription hostage - despite that the FTC requires for optometrist offices to offer it to you at the end of your visit. The customer has to ask and reason for it. Then they tell you there's "a process" for it to get released, and to sit tight for a few days. Vansuch does this for contact lens prescriptions and for glass prescriptions. Noncompliance. Also, this office is relentless in their sales pitches to upgrade customer to exam procedures not covered by insurance. But then they try to avoid doing the routine test for diabetic health of eye that is covered by insurance. read more

With a new insurance provider, I was given a list of "local" optometrists to choose from. One of my friends recommended Vansuch, because they've been around for such a long time. I set an appointment (which took a couple of weeks), and showed up for my appointment early, knowing that I was going to have to fill out paperwork - which I did. After getting the initial eye exam bits (the parts that don't require an OD) done, I saw Dr. Vansuch, and he was professional, understanding, and we did the optometrist "which is better A or B" dance. It was all professional up to that point. Then I had to go get fitted for my glasses, and that's where things ... changed. The lady who helped me out got me all set up for my prescription by helping me choose frames - they wouldn't take my existing frames (which I brought with me). I had to choose from a very limited set of frames, and made the "least like BCGs" choice available. I told her I didn't want black frames. I got black frames. We then looked at my prescription, which called for bifocals. My current lenses are progressives, and I really like them because they're no-line lenses that change nicely from far to near- vision. I then showed the lady my current glasses which have a Transitions layer, so they change from clear (inside) to tinted (outside). I said I'd like my lenses to be like the ones I'm used to - even though they're going to be in different frames; progressives lenses with the transitions layer. I was told my insurance wouldn't cover that - and I wasn't allowed to pay for it out of pocket. I got clear bifocals. They put in my order and said delivery would be 2-4 weeks, which changed to 4-6 weeks by the time I got out the door, and that they'd call me. After THREE (3) months went by, I showed up at the office and asked where my glasses were. They said "sometimes they take longer," but that they'd check on it and give me a call. Receiving no call, I went back a couple of weeks later, and finally got my glasses. And they were wrong. The bifocal part started too high; I had to tilt my head down in order see anything distant in focus, so I looked like Wolverine when I was driving: very, very angry all the time. So I took them back, and told the unfriendly girl at the front desk that my glasses needed to be fixed. She said I'd have to set an appointment, and the soonest was two weeks out. TWO WEEKS! I showed up on time for my appointment and got another prescription from the doctor. Then went out to have the glasses 'adjusted.' Adjustment in optometrist-talk is "put two dots on the lenses, figure out where the bifocal part starts, and then sent them out to have new lenses made." So ... my glasses went BACK out to be remade. I was told it would be 6-8 weeks before my new glasses came back. I asked if there was any way to make it quicker, since I'd already been waiting almost five months for my glasses. They said no. Two and a half months later, I started dropping by the office to see if my glasses had come in. Ten days or so later, I finally - FINALLY - got my glasses. And - just to be clear - the office didn't call me to let me know the glasses were in. It's like they have no interest in contacting their patients. Now, mind you, the "fitting" part - to make sure the glasses were right - was handing the glasses to me through the front door while I was outside and thanking me for picking them up. These new glasses - with the new lenses - are barely usable. In fact, the hinge on the left side of the glasses has seized and cannot be folded any longer. I've had these new glasses for about a month. So, to sum up: after almost a YEAR I finally got a barely usable pair of glasses. The optometrist was great, but the office staff, service, length of time to get the glasses, and general attitude towards me - the customer - was abysmal. The two-star rating was because of the prescription - not because of the office staff. There are six other places to get glasses within a couple of miles of this office, I'd recommend using them. My appointment was yesterday (August 4th ) . The people who work there are friendly and helpful through my eye exam, they were extremely patient with me being that my right eye wasn't as cooperative as my left eye ,it was a breeze and then I got the diagnosis ( for the first time in my life im going to have glasses ) , we got a very cool looking frame that fit my head and I was very happy with (watch out for the pink frame that was the first one that was suggested to me I suspect it's been there longer than most of the employees have been alive ) ,my glasses have been ordered and should get them in a couple weeks . Been here once a while ago and ordered new glasses from them. When ordering new glasses, I picked out a model from their display and they told me it would come within a week. I had to pay about $400 upfront and waited. About 3 weeks passed, nothing happened, so I give them a call. They tell me that they couldn't order my glasses because my model wasn't currently available. So why didn't they contact me before? Were they just going to keep the money and never say anything? So they tell me they'll order the same model from somewhere else. I wait again and I finally get the glasses. The thing is, it wasn't really anything like the glasses I chose out in the display. In the end, I ended up paying $400 for glasses I didn't want. I'm not sure how they are now, maybe it's better but that was my experience read more

Giving this establishment 3 stars, a star each solely for 3 individuals who are really the only reason why I will continue to go. The 1st is Dr. Vansuch himself who made me aware of how bad my eyes really were whereas most ODs just wanted money for each visit. 2nd is for the lens tech who is always so kind to my children and takes his time to teach them all things abour caring for their lenses. The last is for the only front desk staff (a gentleman with glasses) who has gone out of his way to inform us of our upcoming appointments, when our lenses arrive and is also very kind. The other front office staff is rude - never letting you speak and always interjected, lets weeks go by without any call to let us know to pick up our lenses/contacts and never seems to want to take a phone call as though they are being bothered by a simple request. My advise - if you do not wish to deal with patients, especially though who have never been rude back, please find another job and not ruin the establishment of a great OD. read more

Took a extra long time for some reason to get my contacts and a extra week for the sunglasses but all in all they have a great selection of glasses and sunglasses for me. I ordered a expensive pair of sunglasses and i am so happy with them they look great on me! I used to go to Dr. Vansuch back when I was in high school and lived in the area. Even though I live an hour away with no traffic now, I figured I would go back to him and be loyal. The office has seriously changed for the worse over the years. Customer service is very poor now with little communication. I ordered glasses and they said they would call me in about a week....no call. So I called. "Oh, we're sorry, your glasses were wrong, so we had to send them back, we'll give you a call on Friday" (another week). WELL, YOU COULD HAVE AT LEAST CALLED AND LET ME KNOW! AGAIN, NO CALL on the next Friday!!!! So I called again. Guess what?!?!? "We don't see them here, we need to call the lab." Unbelievable. Dr. Van Such is a great eye doctor, but whoever is running is office s*cks at it. Expect long wait times in the waiting area, expect not being brought in at your appointment time, and expect to wait a long time for your glasses. I scheduled an appointment to get an eye exam and a new pair of glasses as i noticed my vision had definitely changed. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. During my visit i found out i had a medical condition and needed a certain kind of contacts to treat it. I found this place by just researching eye doctors in Orange. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly. Overall the experience was exactly what I anticipated going to see an eye doctor would be. My one major problem is that the doctor diagnosed me with Macular Dengeneration at 21 years old. This was really strange to me as this is a disease usually developed when you are in your 50's and 60's (from what the doctor told me). I asked if there was any way it was something else, and he was adamant he knew it was macular degeneration. Since it would be such an odd thing for me to have I got two more opinions. The other doctors at different practices both said there were no signs of macular degeneration, and agreed it was very odd of this doctor to say I had it at 21 years old. This guy was nice, but I do think diagnosing someone with something so serious and not being correct (only assuming the other two doctors are right, which i acknowledge they could both be wrong but that would be an extremely weird coincidence) is worth mentioning in the reviews for future customers. I hope it was just a one off thing, maybe the machine had dust on it i don't know, but as a 21 year old hearing you are going to go blind over the next 10 years is a very serious scare to be totally incorrect on. read more

I ditto everything Howard R. wrote here one month ago. In summation, the doctor is great, the office staff sucks. In my particular case the sucking sounded like this: #1 They promised me my glasses in 5 to 10 business days. Six weeks later, after i phoned them twice, they told me the glasses were in but could not tell me when they had arrived, that is, how long I had waited unnecessarily for the phone call from them that never came. #2 After I told the office woman I would be coming in on Monday, and said goodbye to her, I only heard silence. Her disrespect for me prevented her from extending the courtesy of responding to my goodbye with her goodbye before hanging up the phone. Ergo, my goodbye will be permanent. #3 I am raising my rating from 1 to 3 because of the great service I received in picking up my glasses from the doctor's daughter in place of the office staff. (Maybe they've all been fired!! : ) She answered all my questions and was totally respectful, professional, and nice. TWO MONTHS LATER: The prescription was wrong. The new glasses with the correct prescription were broken by their uncalibrated framing machine. The third set of glasses took another month to get to me because of their never ending habit of waiting for the customer to phone them to see if the glasses have come in. I told the office hoped to have the office manager phone me. So of course I never heard from anyone over there again. So I am dropping my rating from 3 back to 1. read more

I have been coming here for over 17 years. I've moved out of the area and still wanted to be loyal to the office that I have always come to. I called to schedule a appointment on a Monday that I would be in town however I was told the dr doesn't work on Mondays. The lady offered me an appointment on Tuesday but I told her I lived out of town and Monday was the only day. She STILL tried to get me to book on Tuesday. A few weeks later, I discovered I could be in town on a Friday a few weeks from then. I called to make an appointment and was told the dr doesn't work on Fridays. I was shocked because last time I called I was told he doesn't work on Mondays. I asked about this and she said he doesn't work on Mondays, Wednesday's or Friday's. Not to mention only a few hours on Saturdays. IS THIS SERIOUS?! The Drs hours an be whatever they want and I understand that. However, the website should reflect that all though the office is open 6 days a week, you can only book appointments on 2.5 days. There wouldn't be a feeling of deception if this was posted online. All I know is, my loyalty to them was not reciprocated and I am on the market for a new optometrist. read more

Seriously, one of the two best doctors/practices I've ever dealt with - and I've had a bunch! I have had RK surgery (those of you that had it know the issues I've been dealing with), extremely dry eyes, floaters, thinning retinas, lasik, nearsightedness, presbyopia. It's amazing that I can see at all. Dr. Joe was one of the most progressive doctor's I've been to making sure he has the latest technology to help with the vision problems I have. Everyone was friendly from the second we walked in until the second we left. The staff was very patient and accommodating to me and my kids. They were very informative on every test and educated me in everything throughout my exam and my 2 kids. They took time and did not rush the exams or the frame choosing process. Doctor doesn't even take his time with patients anymore and rushes through appointment and they don't even bother to call you and remind you about your appointment! My girlfriend told me about this place shes been coming here since she was little and the same eye doctor is still there. The location is very easy to find its in the shopping center of marie calanders. I live in tustin i drive over here to get my all eye care needs. Let me first start off by saying the staff is extremly helpful and always friendly !!! The place is always spot less. They have a great selection of glasses such as michel kors coach etc and very good priced. I buy my contacts from here very cheap compare to other places . Many times im clusmy and i break my last pair of contacts upon on ordering a supply of contacts i let them know that im out of contacts and they are nice enough to give me a trial pair of contacts until my new ones come in. Today for example i came in my right contact broke and i couldnt see at all ! They let me have a right contact until my appomeint tommrow. Ellie is very friendly she gretted me . I have been going to Dr. Van Such for many, many years. Dr. Van Such is very knowledgeable, professional and approachable. He is very educated in keratoconus, which I have. When fitting me with contacts, he does not give up until he has the perfect fit. I never feel rushed when having my eyes examined by the doctor. I would recommend anyone with keratoconus who has not been able to wear contacts, to pay Dr. Van Such a visit. Do yourself a favor and go to another Dr. The staff lost my contacts after I left them at the office thinking I could retrieve them at the next scheduled (about a week) appointment. My eyes were dilated and I had an eye infection so I couldn't wear them during the time before the next appointment. When I came in and asked about them they all but accused me of lying to them about leaving them, after I explained why I had forgotten them the previous week it became more of, I F***ed up and trusted they wouldn't throw them away even with my name on the lens container. So when I asked for a quote to replace them they had the gall to ask me to pay $1200. These people HAVE NO HONOR. The Doctor is rude and condescending. read more

I had to find a new optometrist bc my last one retired and my insurance referred me to this office. First off, it's really easy to find and has good parking. Secondly they are open on Saturdays for appointments which is pretty uncommon for a drs office. The staff was super friendly when I got there and even adjusted my old pair of glasses that I got somewhere else. The dr was easy to understand, friendly, and funny. This is the first time I've had to get reading glasses and he made it an easy process. Big thumbs up. read more
