    fishtail headband braid by Tamia
    Sandra L.

beGlammed is a lifesaver! TL;DR: Great option if you need hair and makeup for a last-minute event. If you have the budget and want a flawless look, go for the "Elite" stylist. I needed to hire a hair stylist to come to my house really early in the morning (6am!) because I planned a last-minute photoshoot at the tidal basin during cherry blossom season. I only had three days to get a photographer, makeup artist, and hair stylist. I was able to find the photographer on Thumbtack and my wedding makeup artist was available, however I had no luck finding a hair person so last minute. I even messaged stylists on Instagram - but they were already booked or took too long to respond. It was Friday, and my photoshoot was happening on Saturday at 9am! Now I know I could just curl my own hair, but I wanted something special for these photos that I was already paying a premium for. I decided to try my luck with beGlammed, despite limited customer reviews for DC. I called their customer service line asking about the difference between an "Expert" and an "Elite" stylist and they were really courteous and helpful. Basically, I wanted professional curls and a braid element. Since the braid would require "lifting" my hair, I was advised to choose the "Updo" option. This is $85 for an Expert and $195 for an Elite stylist. I couldn't justify over double the price for an Elite (that's more expensive than my wedding day hair!) so I just went with the Expert option and hoped for the best. You fill out the beGlammed services form and pay upfront (gratuity and tax included). This is unlike Thumbtack, which allows you to submit a project for free. Within TWO minutes, I got an email saying a local hair stylist (Tamia) was available! I called her to confirm she's a real person (I'm paranoid like that) and was delighted to hear that she could make it at 6am. My makeup person was coming at 7am, and we had to leave the house by 8am to make it to the tidal basin on time for the photoshoot. Stress level - 7! Saturday morning comes around and Tamia is right on time. I cleared my dining table and set up a space for the magic to happen. I showed Tamia some photos of waterfall braids, and she quickly got started with curling my hair. When she got to the braiding part, I wasn't really sure what was happening since I didn't have a big mirror in front of me Lol. It didn't feel like a waterfall braid, but I trusted her expertise and just let her work. When she was done, I looked in the mirror and freaked out a little. It wasn't exactly what I asked for - it actually seemed MORE complicated! She did a fishtail headband braid. My hair was really frizzy (it's dry from balayage) but the style looked great. After getting makeup done, spraying on more hairspray, the look came together and I really loved it. The headband braid looked better in photos because you could see the details on the side and top of my head. If she had done a waterfall - it would've been pointless because it's a portrait photoshoot with mostly headshots (you'd never see the back of my head). So, I think it was a really smart call on her part to do the headband style. Anyway, the shoot went great and I've been recommending beGlammed to my friends. Thanks for saving my bum!

WTF are these lashes?! And this was after she "fixed" them.

This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

They have excellent customer service and they cater to their customers' needs. Overall, they keep a really good time schedule and they make sure that you're in and out in a certain amount of time that they tell you as the estimate. I do also appreciate that they respect their customers time by doing this. I love that they have a point of sales system where you can pay by tap and that they don't really handle any cash, which is a good sign. Overall, this is the best hair salon in DC that I'm aware of. I trust them doing my hair, my daughter's hair, and I have referred people to come here. Thank you ladies!

New month, new business to support…read more This place is one of a kind, a gem which deserves to shine. The staff was friendly and my services were booked in no time. Very clean establishment They offer coffee, tea, or water to guests Festive decor with some halloween candy at the front desk lol how cute! My services were done by Sonya and I'll say this, you need to book a trichologist! If you're suffering from hair loss, hair damages, dermatitis, and scalp issues, book someone certified to not just style your hair but customize the right care for your hair. Sonya did just that and she was sweet, understanding, not scornful of my hair condition, and really made a dull hair shine again. As someone battling dermatitis, I booked a cut, moisture hydration treatment, and scalp exfoliating detox masks and honey...this service was just what I needed. Sonya carefully explained everything to me from things do refrain from if my scalp became flared and how to manage it in between. I'm so relieved to have found her because my hair was missing this level of care and support. I'm scheduled to return soon and cannot wait to continue this journey to healthy hair with a dynamic stylist. Book the appointment and if you need special attention to the state of your hair, book Sonya-you won't regret it.
