Stumbled upon this spot when looking for a place to meet someone in this area. It's a little unassuming & a unique old-school feel. But they have a huge menu & friendly staff. I ordered the spicy Italian (minus mortadella) and it was perfect. Definitely not something to eat everyday, as Italian cold cuts aren't artery-friendly, but so good with the toasted sub. I've been here several times and the food is always fresh and delicious. I've had the BLT, beef tongue, patty melt, turkey club, and burger. All were excellent! The beer selection is great too. They give you a basket of crinkle cut chips when you sit down and it's hard to stop eating them. The dining room is small so get there early during lunch time. read more

The neighborhood is pretty deceiving, heck, even the building itself is BUT this is an amazing place. We stopped in on a Friday night around 7PM and were able to find a seat right away. You get a basket of chips right when you sit down. Excellent beer selection that you can go pick from. The menu is plentiful. I got the tuna melt which was the best I have ever had, hands down. Brought family from Chicago to the deli. They were mesmerized by the beer selection and the reasonable prices. Everyone at the table enjoyed their subs (spicy Italian, American) and sandwiches (roast beef). Noisy, exuberant pre-New Year's Eve crowd. Excellent deli and restaurant. I would have given it 5 stars but they recently ( as of 4/21/2011) changed the bread rolls they use for their famous grand slam sandwich among other sandwiches. I love a good sandwich and Primo's is definitely better than good. Seems to be one of those neighborhood hole-in-the-wall places you would never know about unless you were a local, yet always seems to have a steady crowd. The first few times I went there, I somehow managed to miss it and had to turn around--I don't know how, it's got a bit of a wild decor and doesn't seem to belong in the neighborhood, which is a bit on the run-down side. As mentioned by another yelper, the inside decor is "a little bit of everything". They have several coolers full of just about every beer you can think of and they don't mind recommending something to you. Crinkle-cut chips are never-ending and while I normally would skip a ranch dressing, I always ask for some for my chips and can't stop eating them. The soda comes in cans and there actually is a small "deli" where you can get deli-type items or desserts. A huge menu with some items on the stranger side (tongue, for instance), but I most often get the Reuben or the Italian sandwich--always huge. I always say I'm only going to eat half and save the rest but I just can't do it. I eat it all. Everyone I have brought here loves it--even my step-sister, who finds something to complain about everywhere we go. My only 2 complaints would be that it seems like I always want to go when they are closed. At 7:45pm Saturday night I wanted to go with my boyfriend and realized they closed at 8. Bummer. I believe they are also closed on Mondays? I guess I'm just a spoiled American. Ha. Hurray for them for not caving, though. The other complaint would be that its easy to spend a lot more money than you wanted to going out to get a sandwich. That would partially be because I once ordered an $11 beer without realizing it would be that expensive. I love this place. Great beer selection, delicious sandwiches, and the wait staff is always very attentive. The potato chips at the table are great, too. The "dip" you can purchase tastes more like ranch dressing...but it's still great. I grew up in this area, so i've been going for years. The food is definitely a five but this last Saturday we waited for a corned beef and a pastrami sandwiches that never came we finally just got up and left. This was after 80 minutes. Hands-down the best deli in all of northeast Ohio, and better even than any I've uncovered in nine years living in NYC. The waitstaff is amazing -- fun, funny, remember everyone, engaging. And the food is out of this world; I've literally liked every single thing I've ever eaten here. Two downsides that can't be allowed to steal star-points: it does close a little on the early side, which is unfortunate; and the location isn't as wonderful as the restaurant is. But it's so great, you work around those limitations to get at what's inside the front door. read more

The beer selection is absolutely incredible! Whenever I want to stock up on some good microbrews, this is my first stop. I live for sandwiches and this is, probably, my favorite sandwich shop in Akron! Their reubens are to die for, the Italian sub is amazing...There isn't a single sandwich that I have tried here that has been disappointing. The only thing that keeps me from being a regular is the price. A beer and sandwich for two usually cuts me down about $35, plus all the money I choose to blow on the aforementioned beers. I have been going here since we made it a tradition during our 2002 soccer season. It is one of 4 restaurants that when I come back to Akron, I have to visit. They have a variety and large selection of beers to compliment your meal. My favorite selection has to be the Spicy Italian sandwich. It is successfully blended with the right deli meats, bread, sauce, and toppings. You can not go wrong with this selection. Additionally, Primos has one of the only reuben sandwiches that I would eat in the Akron area. You will leave the deli full, but just make sure you do not eat too many of the complimentary chips they fill up for you. They can be addicting too. Great people, service, and a unique atmosphere. The short: The spicy Italian was a fantastic blend of deli meat and Italian sub bread. The long:The atmosphere of this place seemed to be so laid back, the counter to order is just like ordering meat from an actual meat deli or grocery meat department(kind of...). All sorts of beer is in coolers along the opposite side of the room, with a sign that promises the ability to mix and match, or buy individual bottles(I didn't actually get anything to drink, so not much other info here other than what I saw). Having never been to Primo's deli, I asked for suggestions and was directed to getting their spicy Italian or Reuben sub. Went with the spicy Italian sub While the wait was about 25mins, the sub came out hot with the cheese melted just right, gluing together the deli meats. The spicy Italian was a fantastic blend of deli meat and Italian sub bread. The bread was toasted just right, with the edges slightly burnt(the way I like it). I couldn't tell if it was brushed with oil or butter, but it tasted and "felt" like the richness of butter. The 12inch sub was full of flavor with butter and deli meat flavors predominant. Excellent beer selection, maybe too excellent. How can I pick when it's lunchtime and I still have 7 hours of driving? (we shared a Hoppin' Frog Boris the Crusher). Upon our waitress' recommendation we shared the Spicy Italian and their Famous Reuben. Wow. Too much food but that just means we got to take some home. They were both perfect and I recommend them both (this coming from someone who doesn't even like Reubens!) When you say you're sharing they bring you each a plate of half of each sandwich. Brilliant! Unlimited potato chips doesn't hurt. It's a cute quirky place (the guy who dissed the decor clearly folds his underwear and has all his utensils facing the same direction in his kitchen) and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Best spicy Italian sub in Ohio! I get mine w the "hot mix" which is essentially a hot pepper relish. If dining inside, you walk in and seat yourself on either side of the deli. Potato chips are provided and a chilled mug if you decide to choose from the "wall of beer." You walk to the cooler and have choice of a very diverse beer selection(surprising!). I had heard about Primo's but finally had a chance to try. An excursion to look at upholstery fabrics tooks us near, and a quick exit off of 77, and we were there. It is really more of a cafe then a deli, although right in the middle is a deli cooler or two and they also seem to do a lot of "take outs". Beer and wine is for sale to take out or drink with your meal. Nifty!! I had a salami sandwich on a kaiser roll with a dab of mayo and swiss cheese....excellent!! I also had a cup of their clam chowder and it was good, but not great. My freind had the greek salad and it was pronounced as being "very tasty". Service was exceptional: warm, easygoing, and very prompt. I'll definately return!! read more

We have stopped here several times in the past, and had not yet dined, due to the hordes of people that descend on the place anywhere near a normal lunch hour. All tables full; and surly, hungry impatiently waiting queues of would-be diners seeking a table have chased us away to date. On this day it was maybe 4PM, so before dinner and well after lunch, and only a couple cars were in the lot. The lady got a braunschweiger sandwich and I a hot pastrami. We ordered to go as we were Jonesing to get home. However, the lady fell victim to the plethora of beer varieties that are available here, including some things on tap that I had never even heard of almost all of which were crying to be tried. Not to be one to turn my back on crying beer, we both ordered a draught of something that caught my eye largely because of the 8% alcohol content. It had been a hot and action-packed day, so the beers went down nicely! Our waiter, who was excellent and quite chipper, offered and got us small samples of the beer to resolve our decision , and brought chips for us to munch on while we awaited the sandwiches. The sandwiches were chock full of meat and quite good when we ate them, as was the cole slaw side and the kosher pickle spears. They also threw in a small bag of chips gratis to help it all go down. It's tough to accurately rate a hot pastrami sandwich eaten cold accurately, but it struck me that it would be superior if eaten as intended. read more
