5 Stars | Great pizza, even better customer service! We've been ordering Prime Pizza for years, so we're definitely not new to their pizza. Their cheese and pepperoni pies are always solid, but my personal favorite has been their square pizza, especially with extra cheese. We've even ordered Prime for our daughter's birthday parties, and it's always been a hit. We recently moved into the neighborhood and were excited to discover that Prime Pizza on Pico was just a block away. After visiting twice, I felt compelled to write this review, mostly because of the incredible customer service. On my first visit, I stopped in to grab a couple of cheese slices for my daughter after school. The cashier was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the place was spotless. When they told me my two slices were only about $5, I thought there had been a mistake! Turns out they had an afternoon special where cheese slices were just $2.25 each. Two delicious slices for five bucks? That's a dad cheat code right there! A few days later, I brought my daughter back so we could eat there together. Once again, the customer service was outstanding. They accidentally forgot to prepare my slice, but the way they handled it was impressive. They immediately apologized, heated it up, and brought it right over. No attitude, no excuses, just genuinely good service. Mistakes happen, and I appreciate businesses that handle them that way. Throughout our meal, employees checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Not excessively, just naturally and thoughtfully as they went about their work. At one point, a gentleman who appeared to be the manager or owner came around offering complimentary cookies, thanking customers for coming in and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. He even offered one to my daughter, which was such a nice gesture. It's those little things that make a place special. And of course, the pizza itself is great! The round slices have that crispy New York-style crust, and eating them fresh at the restaurant is even better than delivery. I'm not even someone who regularly craves pizza, but this place has won me over. The food brought us in, but the people are what will keep us coming back. I would give this spot a 4.5 if I could. I need yall to know how good their Sicilian pizza is! And the vodka pizza is right up there as well! The Sicilian is a thick Chicago style slab of pizza. It is so thick, so delicious. I love the pesto sauce drizzled on top. The vodka pizza is so so good too. Literally if you took vodka sauce pasta and put it in pizza from with a super thin crust. This location is dangerous for me because it's right across from Santa Monica college so I can see myself going there way too often during classes. But it's worth it. The people are so nice. I don't get it. All these five star reviews for what is a very thin crusted, completely dry and tasteless pizza. We ordered and picked up a cheese pizza with half pepperoni and half anchovy. (Ordering a cheese and then choosing toppings seems to be the only way to order a half and half pizza.) The sauce and the "cheese" must have been painted on and sitting around--or made in advance and reheated. I had to look hard to see the cheese because I could not taste it. I'm assuming it was there because it had that dried cheese color but absolutely no flavor, texture or softness to it. Definitely not the melty, stringy cheese I'm used to--and love--on a pizza. The tomato sauce was pretty much for color only--little flavor and dry. I didn't try the pepperoni but the anchovies were low quality. To top it all off (no pun intended), the pizza was not even a little bit hot, despite only a 4-minute drive home. We've ordered from here before, and while I don't remember it being great, I don't remember it being this bad. I wish I'd taken a picture. What a waste of money ($52 for a pizza and a salad.) Prime Pizza deserves 4.5 stars but since Yelp doesn't do half stars, we'll go with a strong four. This is just solid, normal pizza done well. It's nothing too spectacular or crazy, but they've got all the NY-style classics including both square and round pies, gluten-free and vegan options, and all your favorite toppings. What makes Prime Pizza stand out to me is their RANCH (some of my favorite anywhere and yes, they sell it by the bottle) and the crispy, spicy pepperoni. I also love that you can get a lot of things by the slice if you order in-store. This location in particular has a great patio and dining area with plenty of seating and TVs and the service is always quick and friendly. Okay so I've been coming to Prime Pizza for a while now and somehow never left a review, which honestly feels criminal at this point. The vegan spicy pepperoni is what keeps pulling me back every time. It's got this actual kick to it that I wasn't expecting the first time - not just heat for heat's sake, the flavor is there too. We also grabbed the Sicilian, which hits different if you're in the mood for something with a little more weight to it. We were helped by Andrew, who is genuinely one of the more entertaining people you'll run into at a pizza counter in Santa Monica. Friendly, enthusiastic, and low-key a jokester - he got me laughing during our interaction, which made an already good stop even better. That kind of energy matters more than people realize. I have been a loyal customer of Prime Pizza for years and have always loved their food, but my experience this evening was completely unacceptable.I ordered a whole pizza in person 45 minutes before closing and paid $45, expecting the premium, fresh quality I usually get here. Instead, because the staff was already packing up the kitchen, the closing crew pulled a sneaky shortcut. They clearly took a leftover cheese pizza that had been sitting out, threw my toppings on it, and ran it back through the oven to reheat it.The crust was a dead giveaway--it was completely dried out, brittle, and crunchy like a cracker instead of being chewy and fresh. The cheese was rubbery and separated from being double-baked.Charging a long-time regular full price ($45) for a stale reheat job just so the night shift could go home early is a terrible way to treat customers. I'm incredibly disappointed with this lack of care. I'm contacting management for a full refund, but the closing crew needs to be retrained on quality standards. read more

Prime Pizza is so good, and their prices are incredibly reasonable. I stopped in and got two slices one Margherita and one pepperoni. The Margherita was my favorite, maybe because I haven't been eating much meat lately, but either way, it was fantastic. Their slices are a great deal and based on how many orders I saw going out, one was for 20 pizzas it's clear this spot is in high demand. The crust was so good it had that high-quality east coast flavor. I wouldn't be surprised if they used imported water or had ovens designed to replicate an authentic Italian-style ovens. The place is located right across the street from Santa Monica College, so it definitely gets busy. Parking can be a little tricky especially if you're going east on Pico, since left turns can be restricted. I recommend turning before the shop to find street parking, or using the lot in the back or along the side of the building. They also have a great sitting area behind their building as well as inside, but the seating outside has two TVs and it's picnic style benching I didn't eat outside that day because it was pretty cold, but I would definitely sit out there and watch a basketball game because I think they had sports on when I was picking up food. The staff is really kind and friendly and even the bathroom was super clean and well stocked. Honestly, I'd absolutely recommend Prime Pizza to anyone craving a quality slice at a reasonable price. read more

Came here after camping and craving pizza. Some friends that live near by recommended this spot and it was a good one. We ordered a slice of grandma, Sicilian, bbq chicken and pepperoni. We also got a side of meatballs and garlic knots with a chopped salad. Food was good, pizza dough was thin with the perfect amount of crisp. The meatballs were nice and tender and I love garlic knots so those were solid and the chopped salad was there to bring everything together. 4++ of the locations that I've been to, this place feels a little larger. There's seems to be a good amount of seating inside and has a more open footprint than the other locations that I've seen. When I first walked in, I was greeted by some very friendly people and helped right away. I was also lucky because I think I've beat the late lunch or early dinner crowd. There was a good selection of slices available and I end up getting the staple which is the spicy pepperoni, but I also wanted to try the summer tomato pizza. It just looked really good! The thick slices had a nice crunch and weren't overly chewy. You could easily eat them without using utensils and just biting directly into them spicy pepperoni always a favorite here but that summer tomato should not be slept on. Fantastic pizza! I ordered the meat lovers square pie. It was pretty big 12" x 16" or so. About a third bigger than most places. And twice as big as Emmy Squared Pizza. All the toppings tasted fantastic and the sauce was on point. The service is great unlike Joe's pizza which hires the unhappiest personnel. Ordered last night. Got an 18" Pepperoni Pie. It's big. A lot of pizza places around here try to sell you these little pies. This is a man's pie. They use the pepperoni couplets, the kind that crisp up. And they don't skimp on the pepperoni. Every bite you can find one. Somehow, it's still not greasy. The ratio from cheese to sauce is spot on. The crust was crispy, firm undercarriage, and the sauce was sweet but not too sweet. It tasted great, genuinely. If you like a very cheesy pie, then order extra cheese. Also ordered an order of buffalo wings. The buffalo sauce was really good. And the blue cheese that came along with it was legit. I'm a bit particular with the blue cheese dressings most pizza places offer, but this tasted fresh. I have plenty of leftovers just from those two orders. In the case of Prime Pizza, "prime" is absolutely an adjective and not a noun. Everything about this place is top notch. First things first, the vibe is top notch. Is a small place with about six little tables, so don't plan on bringing a huge crew. But the intimate atmosphere is about what you want for a place like this. The hip hop blasting over the speakers is also a nice touch (though it's not entirely kid-friendly). The fellas taking the order and helping us were cool and very friendly too. Even took care of us when our order took longer than expected. Okay, the food now. It was suggested we try the lemon pepper wings. Sounded like a good option to me. And wow. Honestly, never had better lemon pepper wings. Perfect blend of savory with a hint of sweetness. I love dry rub wings and these were done perfectly. Absolute banger. The pizza was exceptional too. We got the classic Grandma pizza. Generally speaking it's not my favorite, but as these go it's about as good as they come. If you're looking for a prime pizza place to check out, this is the spot.
