It was a long wait in the center but after seeing him I forgot about it because of his treatment. Not often one gets to see a Dr who treats them like a partner in the road to recovery. I am glad I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Afzal today and to have him as my cardiologist.

I was referred to and advised that Collin County ENT would take Tri-Care. Truth is that they do take Tri-Care and it is in network, but only as a secondary insurance, not a primary insurance (According to the receptionist that I spoke to it is office dependent, so they can make their own rules). So, what do veterans do when they do not have additional insurance? I think this is a very poor stance when your duties are to help. You only help when it benefits you as the Doctor. What a work-around to allow this organization to charge more for service. I know that doctors who support military veterans take more of a loss. It's a given but when you say you do but there's a catch, you are just spitting in the face of those who served to allow you to skate around the issue of possibly taking less money for the same payment. This is just so frustrating to know that I pay a lot for my military "Tri-Care Prime" insurance. More than most who may be transiting through this office (if they pay anything at all) but only to be told your second rate. Pathetic! I'm sure you have the ability to find my name. I have been a patient of Dr. Chen's for over three years now (at different facilities prior to TPRC) and he has genuinely, changed my life. The way The Pain Relief Center addresses your pain is unlike anything I've experienced. They look at all aspects of your health. Nutrition, lifestyle, hormones, prior conditions, etc. and provide a treatment plan that is best for you. The staff is above board. From the girls at the front desk to the schedulers, nurses, MA's....they are all top notch and genuinely care. You will always see the same faces and be treated like a person....not a number. I live an hour away from this facility but would never consider going anywhere else. I can't say enough great things about this facility and mainly Dr. Chen who has come to my rescue so many times, listened and understood and not given up when every other doctor has. Unfortunately, my rating is tanked entirely by their billing department, which operates with severe red flags and potential medical billing fraud. After my visit, they executed an unauthorized credit card charge without prior notice, itemized consent, or providing a clear invoice first. Even worse, the amount charged was completely inconsistent with the contracted patient responsibility listed on my insurance EOB (Explanation of Benefits). Trying to get transparency or a resolution from their billing staff has been an absolute nightmare. A warning to future patients: The healthcare providers are great, but DO NOT leave your credit card on file with this front desk/billing department under any circumstances, or you risk unexpected, unauthorized deductions.

I showed her my most recent MRI and a stack of medical records going back 2 years. She quickly told me that the doctor wasn't going to be able to help me and I left. Never saw the doctor. Also their office is full of red flags, like advertisements for laser hair removal, ketamine injections, Regenexx ads all over the place (which is not a proven treatment and is experimental at best), something called the O-shot for woman sexual improvement. I feel stupid for going here.

I called several times after seeing the doctor for my 91 year old mother to get the next steps done for her epidural and they never call back or respond to the cardiologist office who also contacted them. But they called, texted and left a voice mail when they needed the insurance information yet could not call me back about the patients needs of getting the epidural moved forward. Terrible office staff and unfortunately I will take my mother somewhere else because I will not deal with the terrible, disorganized and lack of help in the office.

During the appointment, I was not informed that discussing routine or ongoing health topics would convert the visit into a separately billable "dual visit" with additional charges. There was no advance notice, no cost disclosure, and no opportunity to decline those added services. What makes this more frustrating is that the so-called "ongoing condition discussion" they later cited was limited to the doctor briefly asking -- as I was getting up to leave -- whether I needed any prescription refills. That was the extent of it. There was no separate evaluation, no new complaint, and no dedicated problem-focused exam. After receiving the bill, I filed a formal complaint. The organization stated they conducted not one but two "comprehensive reviews," yet at no point did anyone contact me to ask what actually occurred during the visit. Their investigation relied entirely on internal documentation and staff input, without speaking to the patient involved. They acknowledged this but said patient interviews are not standard for billing reviews -- which is concerning when the dispute centers on what was actually communicated to the patient. Both reviews concluded the charges were appropriate and declared the matter closed, without addressing the core issue of disclosure and consent for additional self-pay charges. My takeaway is that this may not be limited to self-pay patients -- it was only caught in my case because, as a self-pay patient, I carefully reviewed the itemized bill. Many patients with insurance may never see or question how a visit was coded or billed. Greater upfront transparency about when a preventive visit becomes separately billable would prevent situations like this. I'm sharing this so other patients can go in better informed than I was.

I started using his associate whom I never really cared for. But after a couple of visits, I did come to feel comfortable with him and realized he was a really good doctor. We'll after about a year he moved away, and so my search for another GP was on again. It worked out well though as I ended up moving myself. I did a lot of research and decided to give Dr Washburn a try. Yes he is quiet, and doesn't trade jokes with you, but I would rather have a doctor that concentrates on me and my medical needs and not ask me how my cousin Eddie is doing or ask me if I saw the football game last night. Dr Washburn listens to you, let's you do the talking, and doesn't interrupt you . It's a busy office, but I've never felt rushed there, and he's not there to judge you. He listens and suggests what would work best for your situation medically and personally. And he has always fit me in when he can, sometimes same day, if I have an unexpected situation come up. He cares about you as a person and not a number or a bother. And the front desk and office staff are great.
