I had a very disappointing experience with the billing and review process at Baylor Scott & White Primary Care - McKinney. I scheduled what was supposed to be a preventive wellness visit as a self-pay patient. During the appointment, I was not informed that discussing routine or ongoing health topics would convert the visit into a separately billable "dual visit" with additional charges. There was no advance notice, no cost disclosure, and no opportunity to decline those added services. What makes this more frustrating is that the so-called "ongoing condition discussion" they later cited was limited to the doctor briefly asking -- as I was getting up to leave -- whether I needed any prescription refills. That was the extent of it. There was no separate evaluation, no new complaint, and no dedicated problem-focused exam. After receiving the bill, I filed a formal complaint. The organization stated they conducted not one but two "comprehensive reviews," yet at no point did anyone contact me to ask what actually occurred during the visit. Their investigation relied entirely on internal documentation and staff input, without speaking to the patient involved. They acknowledged this but said patient interviews are not standard for billing reviews -- which is concerning when the dispute centers on what was actually communicated to the patient. Both reviews concluded the charges were appropriate and declared the matter closed, without addressing the core issue of disclosure and consent for additional self-pay charges. My takeaway is that this may not be limited to self-pay patients -- it was only caught in my case because, as a self-pay patient, I carefully reviewed the itemized bill. Many patients with insurance may never see or question how a visit was coded or billed. Greater upfront transparency about when a preventive visit becomes separately billable would prevent situations like this. My regular GP, which I had gone to for many years went into private practice, and was no longer able to take my insurance. Broke my heart as he was fantastic. I started using his associate whom I never really cared for. But after a couple of visits, I did come to feel comfortable with him and realized he was a really good doctor. We'll after about a year he moved away, and so my search for another GP was on again. It worked out well though as I ended up moving myself. I did a lot of research and decided to give Dr Washburn a try. Yes he is quiet, and doesn't trade jokes with you, but I would rather have a doctor that concentrates on me and my medical needs and not ask me how my cousin Eddie is doing or ask me if I saw the football game last night. Dr Washburn listens to you, let's you do the talking, and doesn't interrupt you . It's a busy office, but I've never felt rushed there, and he's not there to judge you. He listens and suggests what would work best for your situation medically and personally. And he has always fit me in when he can, sometimes same day, if I have an unexpected situation come up. He cares about you as a person and not a number or a bother. And the front desk and office staff are great. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Washburn's for a few years. I have always found him to be a very thorough doctor. He and his staff have always treated me kindly, and helped me with different problems over the years. I read some reviews about him and his office here, and thought I'd give my opinion. I am in the health care field, and understand the difficulties a practice deals with daily. This office has always been able to work me in same day when needed, taken care of problems over the phone, and made my life easier when I needed something. I appreciate the care you have given me over the years Dr. Washburn! I always feel like I am in good hands with you as my PCP. read more

I been with Dr Washburn for about 8 mths. At first, I didn't think good nor bad of him, however, his staff members were all very personable. Dr. Washburn seemed very by the book, not too many smiles, but he seemed to listen thoroughly and be pretty focused on whatever illness - he's a candid person. Recently, I had a change in my personal life - which shook me up a bit. I shared that info with Dr. Washburn. Honestly, his response/advise/care will be forever engraved in my heart! That day I learned that his wisdom and care for people extends well past medicine! I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God strategically planted Dr. Washburn in my life that day for my overall well being! Dr. Washburn has a heart of gold - the man cares! Both Dr. Washburn and his Staff are complete a-holes. Doctors are meant to help people, this Doctor and Staff don't understand this concept. My files were transferred to Dr. Washburn after my Doctor went out of practice. Instead of helping me, they wasted my time and refused to help me as I'd been helped all the years before with my previous Doctor. If I could rate them lower than one-star, I would. There are two kinds of Doctors - those who are in the business for the love of helping others, and those who want a fat paycheck. This Doctor is in for the latter. read more

Dr. Washburn and his staff are great!!!! They have all been so nice and helpful to me and my family. Dr. Washburn is extremely knowledgeable with pediatrics also...which is great because my insurance does not cover a pediatrician locally..so I was afraid I'd have to pay a lot of money for 1...I was so glad to find this doctor. read more

I am a mom of 4 kids and I had a great experience here. I was given same day appointment. The front office ladies were sooo sweet and kind. One patient was rude and upset because he had to fill out forms (shocker) and the staff members were polite and patient. We were in and out in an hour. Including paperwork. The medical tech was sweet and careful taking vital signs. Diagnosis was spot on and paperwork was forwarded to referral in a timely manner. Dr was very caring and thorough. Not sure why other reviewer was upset he had to wait an hour. Maybe doctors are saving lives or educating patients or dealing with a high anxiety situation. Sometimes we wait at Doctors offices. It's not getting a haircut. Do you want fast food medical care, or the care of a Dr. Who will take time with you & will care for us when we are given bad news or having a stressful diagnosis. Stay away! Their new name "Centennial Family Medicine at Frisco East" and the great Dr. Raj is no longer practicing here. The new Doctor, Dr. Washburn and staff are a complete joke. It's sad that such a great office can have the extreme turnover that this one has...Here is my experience: I called the new office "Centennial" and told them that I was a patient of Dr. Raj's, this would be my first time with Dr Washburn, and I just was wanting a check up. I scheduled a time. I arrive early to my scheduled appointment and the receptionist has no idea why I am there. I was told to have a seat, as it would be a few minutes until the doctor was ready. Twenty minutes later, I reminded the receptionist that I had a scheduled appointment at 3:00, it was 3:20 and asked why they were running late. The receptionist told me she had no idea why the Doctor was late and that she would have the nurse come get me. The nurse came, brought me to a room and told me to wait for the Doctor. I waited 30 minutes but the Doctor never arrived. Finally, at 4:00 (an hour after my scheduled appointment), I was tired of waiting and got up and left. It is absolutely ridiculous that I had to wait an hour to see this new Doctor, Dr. Washburn. I think sometimes that Doctor Offices forget that I am paying them for a service, not the other way around. If they don't live up to my expectations, or miss our scheduled appointment, they're fired. Stay away from this office. There are way too many more Doctor's in Dallas than to put up with this type of treatment! read more

Worst experience that I have ever had with a health care professional. First of all, when I came in with nausea I was offered NOTHING to satiate my symptoms. I had to wait an hour while he ran two tests, all while running to the bathroom multiple times to vomit. He was cold and unwelcoming in the exam room and acted like he was in a hurry to get me out the door. He then MISDIAGNOSED me with the flu, even though my flu test came back negative. I spent a week at home miserable attempting to recover before being hospitalized and re-diagnosed with pneumonia. When listening to my chest he didn't even lift up my sweatshirt. Last I checked breath sounds were not clearly heard through any sort of clothing. I told him that I was experiencing chest pain and he told me it was probably from all the coughing. THE SYMPTOMS WERE PRESENT AND HE IGNORED THEM. When I tried to bring him my comparative X-rays from the hospital he refused to look at them. The man does not even do his own call backs to his patients and rather has his staff complete them. This left me with a very uninformative call from a receptionist who stated over and over "I don't know, it's not in his notes." Needless to say I would NEVER EVER go back to that doctor and I would recommend no one seek his care. read more
