The products are fresh, all natural, and of course, locally grown. The staff was helpful, and I learned they don't use harmful chemical pesticides or fertilizers, which is a huge plus. The farm stand is a nice size, shaded from the sun, with beautiful views of the Fallbrook hills. Peaceful too! I purchased a few jars of fresh honey and a sourdough loaf, the honey on toasted sourdough was a delicious treat. I also picked up some crisp green beans. They had a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables, all of which looked fresh and beautifully grown. I'll be back when I need more fruits and vegetables. They now offer a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription too. I'm looking forward to trying one, since I already get a CSA box from a nearby farm. They offer both delivery and pick-up options. If you appreciate fresh produce, definitely make a stop!

I love the variety of produce and truly appreciate the website with info about what's in the box and produce ID photos. The first pickup I looked inside the box and thought....uh, what are those?? It's been fun learning about new produce I would never go out and buy and it's really gotten me cooking a lot more so I don't let all this goodness go to waste. I feel great supporting local farms as well, so it's a win win. Only reason for one star off was that in one box I had a moldy pomegranate and another time a zucchini that had seen better days...but all in all the produce is typically fresh and delicious!

If you eat organic, nutritional content is important to you, right?…read more I've been at the farm for years and have to share with you what I've learned & what makes Sage Mountain Farm unique! A look into the scientific facts about the nutrition of produce on store shelves, creates an uncomfortable revelation about the food we're serving our families. Did you know that the nutritional merits of fruits and vegetables steadily loose vitamins while in storage and transit? That the antioxidants decrease rapidly after harvest making it difficult to reap the full health benefits of fresh produce? Four big factors that impact the nutritional value of the produce you eat: -The ripeness of the produce -The length of time since harvest -The varieties chosen -The harvesting methods Sage Mountain Farms produce: -Only the best nutrient rich, flavorful seed varieties -Hand-picked & handled -Harvested at the peak of ripeness, maximizing nutrient content -Harvested to order! Your order is harvested and delivered within 24-48 hours. -Minimal travel necessary (none for farm pick ups CSA & Farm Stand) Let me show you some examples of why this should be important to you: Studies have shown that tomatoes harvested green have 31% less vitamin C than those allowed to ripen on the vine (Lee and Kader, 2000). Vine ripened red peppers too, have about 30% more vitamin C than green peppers (Howard et al., 1994). It is not just vitamin C content that is reduced, in fact vine ripened tomatoes contain more of the important antioxidants beta carotene and lycopene than those harvested prematurely (Arias et al., 2000). Lettuce loses 46% of some key nutrients within seven days of cold storage. Spinach loses 22% of lutein and 18% of beta carotene content after just eight days of cold storage (Ramberg and McAnnelley, 2002). Culinary herbs, when used fresh, contain significant amounts of antioxidants. These antioxidants decrease rapidly after harvest making it difficult to reap the full health benefits of fresh culinary herbs with products from commercial grocery stores (Bottino, 2010). Nothing compares to the juicy flavor of a tomato picked fresh off the vine and eaten right in the garden. Today's global food system ensures that we can find ripe tomatoes any day of the year in any store across the country but the flavor of those tomatoes is often a far cry from that deep red, vine ripened fruit in your garden or the next best thing, Sage Mountain Farms CSA box. Moreover the fresh produce we find in our grocery stores today actually contains fewer nutrients than the same types of produce did just 30 years ago. Did you know that in 1951, an adult woman could meet her daily requirements of vitamin A by eating two peaches? But by 2002, she would need to eat 53 peaches to obtain the same amount of vitamin A !!! (Ramberg and McAnnelley, 2002). Commercial agriculture of the 21st century seems focused on enhancing shelf life of produce, often at the expense of taste and nutrition. This means that maximizing your nutrient dollar in our current grocery store climate is a daunting task and can result in produce lacking in both flavor and quality. The perceived convenience of global food sourcing and mass shipping of produce to achieve lower prices has been a detriment to our diets and our planet. I hope you join a local CSA today and insure that farm fresh produce is available for you and your family every day. It really has made a difference in my life.

We came on an industry tour and it was a crazy big group. When we got there they had a couple stands with local vendors selling products. They also had some produce and dips to sample. A while later the tour starts. You get to walk all around the farm, hear how they plant their produce and you still get to pick your own clamshell of strawberries! It ends with a lunch that they make with produce from JR. I will say the lunch was good but definitely different from the vegan one we had a year ago. But very understandable since they had so many more people to feed this time. Mike led the tour and he was great! A seasoned pro and was not at all bothered having to lead such a large group.

I'm being generous with the number of stars because the person managing the property was very kind…read moreand great at communicating, and the house overall was nice enough. I especially appreciated what seemed like local art being used throughout the entire house to tastefully decorate -- without going overboard with clutter. That was well done. But, netting out at almost $800/night increases expectations and so it probably deserves more like 3 or 3-1/2 stars. It was a 3 bedroom home and was ok -- nothing fancy or high-end. So maybe the cost was based on the size? Importantly, what we really believed we were paying extra for that would have been worth the money was the "farm stay" aspect. It may have been a house on a farm property, but it was not a "farm stay experience." The only thing that came close were the animals, but their enclosures were small, cramped, on the side of the road (which was steep and hard to walk on), and the animals did not look healthy or well taken care of. The alpaca's fur was matted up and many of the chickens had bald spots on their backs, potentially due to overcrowding, rooster overbreeding, or aggressively going after each other in such a small space for so many hens (and hopefully not from parasites). It was a side show vs. a real farm experience. Back to the house, another attraction in the listing was the hot tub -- but it had a really horrible smell. The towels we used to dry off with kept the smell too. We used it on the first day, but not afterward. It's a shame. If the hot tub issue were fixed, the property is nice enough, but I do believe it is mis-marketed. It'd probably be very appealing for a bigger group who is visiting the Temecula wine country scene, but who doesn't want to be in the middle of the fray and, instead, wants a quieter location that feels off the beaten path. It should not be marketed as a "farm stay." And the poor animals should definitely go, especially as they feel like such an after thought on the property anyhow.

FRESH FARM EGGS!!! (5 stars + meteor shower + starlinks)…read more Pasteurized eggs are the best quality. But pasture raised + fresh farm eggs; Hens that roam freely and forage, even better quality! Did you know... fresh farm eggs can sit on the counter (unrefrigerated) for up to 14 days IF the eggs have yet been refrigerated. And they are SO good. Obviously, refrigerate if they won't be consumed within the 14 days but once refrigerated they must stay refrigerated . When buying at the booth, they have not been refrigerated. Current price: $8 for 1 dozen. Expensive but quality and freshness is priceless. If you haven't had fresh farm eggs or don't know the difference, you need to refine that pallet of yours because you are missing out. Fresh as in unwashed!!! I've gone "country" in this beach city! Many times I have considered taking the drive to Ramona to the farms to hunt for some fresh eggs for my baked goods, breakfasts, and my fresh pasta noodle making. Especially when it comes to making my fresh pasta noodles from scratch I want the freshest eggs possible. Well, you don't need to drive to the farms. Their tent is available at some of the farmers markets around the county. If you see their tent, don't pass them up! Well worth $8. Some of the other food vendors at the farmers markets use their eggs as well. I had a "breakfast bowl" and they were frying up fresh eggs from Three Sons Farm. The taste of fresh eggs... I can't find the right words that deserve their compliments. Has a fresh and clean taste to them. The yolk doesn't have a harsh "yolks-ness" taste, it's lighter and creamier - if that makes sense?! The difference is in the yolk. I will take creamier over store bought any day. Ex: I make my own fresh pasta noodles from scratch. That alone, the noodles are already fresh and silky. With fresh eggs... "!!!!!" JABA APPROVED. Until the next review....
