Had a wonderful visit at GoneStraw Farms! I came for the farm-fresh eggs and ended up leaving with so much more -- local honey, local cheese, two loaves of sourdough bread, and a bar of tallow soap. Everything was excellent quality, but the soap stood out. You can immediately tell how well clarified it is, it's noticeably whiter than other tallow soaps I've used. I expected a little more, like maybe a an "exit through the gift shop" kind of place. Thankfully it's the opposite. No frills, just a small area on the side of the road. Lots of fresh eggs, and we picked up fresh sourdough bread, quail eggs, we skipped the duck eggs (over my objection), and Mrs. Yelper got some kind of oil you put on your hands and moon over it like it's something special. Guess I should have told her eating duck eggs would make her eyebrows grow in darker and straight. I used the eggs in homemade pasta and ravioli for thanksgiving. When we are in the area visiting family we drive by and pick up a few flats of eggs. The eggs here don't seem to bother my kids who have sensitivities to the regular low grade store bought eggs. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the eggs aren't much cheaper than organic pasture raised eggs I can get at the store (which are the most nutrient dense and egg-sensitivity friendly kind of eggs) so we don't drive out of our way to buy them, and also because they're not pasture raised chickens or eating organic feed but this place is still a gem and we like supporting farms who care for their animals well and serve their community well in doing so. I loved this place before and the eggs are incredibly fresh (the yolk is a dark orange and very tasty). However, due to the egg shortage - it seems theyve increased their prices and and started selling in flats/trays. Old price was $25 for 180 eggs (6 flats in a box, 30eggs per flat). Now they are selling $10 for a flat which comes out to 0.33/egg (My sister went a few months ago). I no longer live in Riverside so it definitely isnt worth it for me to go. Costco has better prices than this at 0.20 per egg, and Aldi at 0.2075. My go to egg place is Grocery Outlet at 0.16/egg. My sister told me about this farm and I absolutely love it. They always answer the phone (I call before I go to see if they have eggs since it's not close to my house) when I call they are very kind and helpful. They are nice enough to only sell one flat per family right now since eggs are sparse now, they try to make sure there's enough for everyone. They also sell bread, pickled veges, and a small section for handmade items such as soap and a few other items. They also have a small cooler of meat they sell. I bought their bacon before and it was delicious! I would definitely recommend this farm. read more

Good experience every time. I travel a good distance to get duck eggs, the eggs stay fresh for a good while. I am extremely allergic to chicken eggs. So I am extremely grateful, you bring freedom to my cooking. The ladies are always kind and friendly,providing helpful service even when Honey and preserves are so good. I love GoneStraw Farms chicken eggs! As others have noted, you can both see and taste their quality in their orange yolks (*) and strong shells. At $8 for 30 eggs and $15 for 60 eggs, they are an even better deal than Costco's organic large brown eggs ($7.99 for 24 eggs). These eggs not only taste better than store-bought eggs and help save money, but also make me feel as if I'm doing good for the environment by buying locally and supporting humane and sustainable farming. As stated in their website, their chickens, ducks, and quails "live happy lives roaming the pasture for all the bugs and seeds they please" (**). Now they are advertising 10 dollars a flat and they are false advertising the flat and shortening you 10 eggs and only selling you 20 eggs in a flat. When we first started buying eggs from GoneStraw, the eggs were great, whether they were brown eggs or the white eggs. Now they only sell the white eggs and we have had a few eggs that were black inside and smelled fermented! One had started to solidify in the yolk. I have been coming here for the past 4-5 years. Unfortunately I just made my last trip. I understand that the egg prices have gone up due to the avian influenza but gonestraw seems to be going against the no gouging pledge they made on their social media in the last few months. For a little context, when I started buying my eggs from this farm it was a good deal. A flat of 30 eggs was 8 dollars. After a couple of years prices went up. For that same 8 dollars the flats shrank to 20 eggs, still a good price but not as inexpensive. Then that price was raised to 10 dollars for 20 eggs. I still bought because the eggs were fresh and I like supporting small farmers. During the current egg crisis I feel like things are getting out of hand. Within the last month or two prices for a 20 egg flat went to 12 and then 13 dollars. The last straw came today. I went ready to pay my 13 dollars and found that now different color eggs were different prices. If I want 20 brown eggs it's now 15 dollars and they even had " jumbo " eggs at 17 dollars for 20 eggs! They never separated eggs by size in the past. I have been a loyal customer for many years and it hurts to feel taken advantage of. I was at another store before this and saw a dozen organic pasture raised eggs for $6.99. I was kicking myself for coming all the way out to Lake Matthews for eggs. The regular lady that they have at the stand Saturday morning has been dishonest with me in the past and that doesn't help. We have been going to this little gem for a long time buying their amazing eggs for a great price- A carton of 30 eggs for $10.00 . Today we took the 50 mile drive ( one way ) only to find out their carton size shrank considerably from 30 eggs down to 20 ! Well, I guess that concludes our trips to the egg farm, because for that price I can buy 18 organic eggs at my neighborhood Ralph's saving on gas and time ! We've been going here for years for their fresh eggs, which are high quality, but sadly, however, the prices have gotten too high to make it feasible for me to drive the 50 miles round trip to get them. Used to be $25 for 3 x 30 egg flats but they've increased to $40. ($10 for 1 flat, $25 for 2 and $40 for 3). Doesn't make sense to charge higher prices if you buy more and I can't understand the reason for the large increase except greed. They operate out of a stand in front of their home, it's not like their lease space has increased or the cost of bringing the eggs to sale, so the only reason for the increase I can see is greed. read more

On the weekends they have incredible smoked chickens available, and depending on what day you go there,they sometimes have sausage, fresh bread, or honey! LOVE the eggs. The best in the area. HOWEVER, towards the end of the pandemic they had to limit purchases from their stand because their vendors (restaurants) got priority. They were opening back up. I get that, and respect that. NOW we are fully open and they STILL limit purchase! Okay, fine, BUT WHY DO WE NEED TO CALL AHEAD to check for availability?!! Why can't they post on their website? Not to mention, they do not answer the phone! People drive from all over and it's a complete waste of gas (very expensive right now) and time to limit the amount of flats you can purchase to 3 PER CAR! Give us a heads up rather than wasting our gas and time. At the very least limit the purchase to 3 flats per household (proof of drivers license), people travel together to save gas. read more
