This year for my New Year's Resolution I told myself I was going to eat healthier and cook more and this is the best way for me to do that. Good Box Organics is not only convenient, with the food being delivered right to my door, but is entirely healthy as well. The owners Samantha and Mark started this business in 2010 and have a mission of creating a healthier future. The best part is they work with local farmers to get all their produce and find multiple ways to give back to the community. They also have their Support a School program where they donate 5% back from every box sold. They have different boxes to choose from and different sizes as well. Some boxes are fruits only and others include fruits and vegetables. I went with the half size fruit and vegetable box. Before delivery, you get an email of what is going to be inside the box and the best part for me is, it includes recipes of what you can make with the items in your box. My box included an avocado, pears, apples, oranges, broccoli, cilantro, pink chard, and lettuce. One of the recipes included Baked Broccoli Parmesan Fritters which I am definitely going to try out because I always need new ideas for meals with having two small children. The delivery fee for their boxes is $6.95 or you can pick up the boxes for free at many of their local pickup locations. Somehow I was sent and charged for a larger amount of fruit than I actually intended to order. I could have sworn I ordered the medium-sized fruit box, because I just wanted to try out the service, but the large was sent. Perhaps my fault. We were told that the hours of pickup were between 12-8:00 pm at Temple Akiba. My husband arrived around 7 pm to pick up the box and had a not-so-great experience speaking with a not-so-nice person through the intercom. He ended up having to leave empty-handed. Through email, we were told the fruit was put away and refrigerated by someone at the Temple, and we could pick it up the next day. Great. Moving forward, no harm, no foul. However, when we got the fruit home, it definitely did not feel worth the price of continuing the service. The emerald plums were great, but the purple plums were sour. The nectarines were not so great either. I also don't love that you cannot customize your boxes, because the box contained other fruits that I'm really not into. I loved the idea of using Good Life Organics, since I try to eat lots of fruit, but ended up canceling the service. read more

The box is much smaller than other options in the area. Like 50% smaller for the same price as others. The produce was ok looking, nothing special, small apples, small oranges, hard pears. There were multiple items in plastic (other boxes do zero plastic). I cancelled after our first box, wouldnt return or recommend. Lastly some strange old man asked me what i was doing on the property at pickup. My $31.99 box had: Head of kale 3 beets with greens Bunch of carrots with tops 1 lemon 1 red onion 1 hard green avocado 2 oranges 2 v. small apples 2 old pears A small ziploc of raisins(?!)) We were very disappointed. Everything appeared to have been refrigerated for a long time and consequently looked tired and was tasteless. Moreover, our large mixed box was filled with two enormous fennel bulbs and there was less produce than there should have been. This was our first order and we cancelled our membership. I stopped Imperfect as they were pimping more products vs. produce...and eggs and meat and crap..fine...it's a choice...but Good Box is no nonsense, straightforward and the produce has been really good. I can't say enough for the quality of this CSA. I did a lot of research for a CSA in the SFV and opted for Good Life, and I'm so glad I did. Quality of the produce is great, and I swear my grocery bill has gone DOWN and my diet has become much healthier because I started planning all my meals around my delivery box. I loved the balance between variety and seasonal consistency. For instance, the way greens were a staple during the winter made me learn a lot more options for cooking with greens than I would have if I'd only chosen them as an occasional side dish, but at the same time there were enough "treats" (an occasional mango! different types of pears! super early asparagus!) that even my teenage son never got bored. I ended up opting for the family sized box for just myself and my son. It was enough produce that a week's worth of meals only needed a little supplementation from pantry staples like pasta and beans. Our main proteins became legumes, eggs, and dairy and meat maybe once a week or less. I love cooking and really enjoyed using my weekly delivery to find new recipes by just internet searching for various ingredients. We found ourselves eating much better, much less expensively, much lower on the food chain. Win-win-win! One final note: customer service, from my delivery guy to phone/email, has been unfailingly personable and accomodating. Really a first-rate company. My family has been enjoying my weekly GLO organic veggie and fruit box for many many years now, starting at my children's elementary school which was a group pick up location (and school "friendraiser"), and now that they are older, it's delivered to my doorstep, like a weekly treasure to discover. I searched all over the internet for a reputable CSA and came across Good Life Organics. I am so happy that I discovered them because I no longer trust the produce at my local grocery store. Now I can truly tell that the fruits and veggies I am feeding my family are organic! This is evident in the taste and look of the produce. The blueberries are the best I have ever had! The strawberries are sweeter than any of the ones I've ever purchased at the grocery store. The avocados are perfect and so yummy. I have some peaches on my desk and they smell delicious!!! The produce isn't jumbo sized or genetically modified. I'm also glad that I don't receive the same things in my box all the time. So far I have gotten a nice variety in all of my farm boxes. Food/Cost: (4/5) After some research into CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) options in the West LA area, my roommate and I decided to go with Good Life Organic's 9-pound Fruit & Vegetable Half Box ($25) every other week, to be picked up at a nearby elementary school. They also offer Full Boxes ($45) and even an All Fruit Box option. I almost wish they'd provide an All Vegetable Box option as well, but I suppose I still appreciate the fruit. The produce in the box is super fresh and straight off the farm and I like the items even better knowing that I'm supporting local, small farmers. Location & Service: (5/5) Good Life is one of lower priced options in the area, while still offering a full array of services and choices -- i.e. pick-up at one of many local sites (see their website for a list) v. delivery for a small fee; veggie + fruit v. fruit only boxes; full box v. half box; weekly box v. bi-weekly box. Pick-up is super easy. For me, I just go to the elementary school a few blocks away and give my name to the site coordinator. She hands me the box and that's it. Those looking for more convenience can go with the delivery option. I particularly like the weekly emails regarding the storage of and healthful ways to prepare the items of the week. Super informative and useful. Overall: (4.5/5) Yes, the cost of joining a CSA and acquiring produce this way is more expensive than purchasing similar items from your grocery store. However, the added benefits of going the CSA route definitely outweigh the increase in price -- you get a wide variety of fresh, organic items; you support your local farms; and you get an added element of fun and surprise each time you open your box! Moreover, Good Life really goes the extra step by making the whole process a breeze from ordering, to pick up, to even helping with storage and preparation through their informative emails. I LOVE getting my bi-weekly fruit/veggie deliveries. The produce is ALWAYS fresh and you can really taste the difference from store bought vegetables. I use some of the produce to make fresh baby food for my daughter and she loves it. I have always wanted to be that family who ate healthy and when my husband and I had our first daughter, the idea of eating healthy became a huge challenge. These are some of my reasons for liking Good Life Organics: 1. CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) who doesn't want to give money to a local farm! That should be a good reason enough. 2.
