One unfortunate aspect to the fruit carts is that the stock is typically hit or miss. Some have mango, some don't and it's the same with everything else, you kind of have a crap shoot when it comes to what fruits will be available. Not here though, the guy has almost every single day: mango, coconut, honeydew, cantaloupe, cucumber, pineapple, jicama, watermelon, orange. Every day, no kidding, and with it being directly outside my place of business this cart is pretty much perfect in every way. The gentleman that runs it is the nicest guy on the block. If something is a little unripe he will keep it real and let you know. Just this morning he sliced me off a piece of mango so I could judge for myself, very kind of him instead of just unloading the mango. I went pineapple instead. I talk to him in broken Spanish, he talks to me in broken English, and somehow it all works out. Bonus points for not filling the fruit in plastic bags either, he uses plastic to-go containers which are much easier to eat from, and no worries on it tipping over if you're driving. He has small $3 boxes up to a $5 size, and if you're a fan of fresh coconut water (like me) he'll crack one open and fill you a cup for $1. Everything that comes out of this stand screams 'refreshing', I love it. I know he works about 9:30A - 4:00P on weekdays simply because he's in the prefect place with a ton of office traffic, don't know if he works weekends. Look for him right outside the parking lot of the Wells Fargo, located on Washington Blvd. And don't forget to tip! Hello, my name is Justin and I'm a chili/lime fruit addict, and it's all this stands fault.

I love this fruit stand and the guy who owns/works the stand is super nice, a professional fruit cutter and he's funny =) Like everyone else says, all the fruits are actually sweet and fresh! $4 for a big cup and $5 for a big box - you get to pick any and as many different fruit as you want! He also has salt and chili if you wanna add that too. I usually just get the cup and that fills me up.

Cesar is my homie!!…read more I used to work right across the street from this fruit stand, and would go 2-3 times a week. These bags of fruits were like my afternoon bags of crack to get me through the day! Yes, I know I'm not allowed to make a comparison to something I clearly have never done... but seriously, I can't get enough of these fruit bags! Fruits to pick from: Watermelon, pineapple, mango, orange, cantaloupe, jicama, cucumber, coconut. Top off with chili powder, salt, and lime juice. You can actually pick and choose which fruits you want, which is awesome because you can be economically strategic and pick the most expensive fruits, and still pay the same price! Each bag is $3 to $5 depending on what size you want; I always get the $3 bag and it is always more than enough. Compare this to the $5-$10 you spend at Ralphs on a little bowl of mixed fruit! It's a steal! What I love about Cesar is that he lets me be picky! I like my mangoes green, crunchy, and as unripe as possible. He caters to my needs and searches around his stash for the greenest mango he could find. Additionally, I like my fruit heavy on chili powder... AKA I use up half his bottle of chili powder, and he doesn't mind. Even though I no longer work across the street and am unable to go every other day, I still pay Cesar a visit on Saturday afternoons after my workout, and he still remembers exactly how I like my fruit. Sometimes I tip him a dollar or two to show him how happy he makes me.

I will be back for future lunches!!

The fruit is generally good at all the stands, although the mango may be a bit tough occasionally. Usually, the price ranges from $3-$5 dollars. However, depending on the vendor you may get your baggy of fruit filled only half way after paying full price, or you may pay the minimum and get twice as much as before. Either way, the guessing game is over with this guy on Pico. Give him five bucks, and he fills the bag to the brim every time. sure thing. The vendor next to the BofA on fairfax and wilshire does a good job as well, but, having just gone to the pico/fairfax location today...i'm still partial to him...

Incase you have never had an LA fruit cart experience, here is how it works: You point to the fruits you want in the glass case. It's a little pricey. $10-$15 depending on what size you get. It use to be $6-$10 8 years ago, so the prices have just gone up proportionately with inflation. Don't get bent out of shape over it! Not really a farmer's market as much as a lunch spot for the local workers…read more The prepared food is good but this is more of a lunch-time grab for the corporate tower people than a real farmer's market. There are perhaps 1.5 or so real farmer vendors. Everyone else goes with prepared food. Perhaps you will find selling eggs or lemons but that is about it. The rest of the vendors mostly cater towards the lunch crowd. Snack vendors, flowers, and surprisingly, healthy pet chews are also sold here. Admittedly, the snack vendors sell good product. However if you want produce look elsewhere. If I had to dress up with a tie to work in an office, I would find this location lovely to grab a (potentially messy) delicious meal on Thursdays. Unfortunately, if you're here to shop, the parking is incredibly expensive and there's not much going for fruits, much less vegetables.
