Well I went with these fellas a third time and Hooray for Preistly and Sons. They sent a couple of strong, good natured, hard workers my way to move me the day before Thanksgiving (Jason and....arg! Repeat Customer ... which in moving, is kind of odd, since one HOPES not to move very often. We used Priestly in 2008 with great success to move back in to our home after a remodel -- the company that moved us out broke a branch off a big house plant and didn't even say anything -- accidents are accidents but not 'fessing up is unprofessional for sure -- so needless to say, we didn't have them again. P &S guys were fantastic and actually had to move us TWICE during the move, due to one of Portland's notorious ice storms, and we were stuck in it somewhere else so they handled the temp storage and re-move perfectly, and without our involvement except by frantic phone calls. Then last week we needed an antique desk moved to a university and of course we called P&S -- they had to deal with the desk twice (things are never simple) due to institution logistics, and the team was prompt, friendly, efficient and we'd use them AGAIN if we needed them. As customers we especially like knowing that staff sticks around -- in the office, on the teams, etc. That makes us feel like P&S doesn't just treat clients right, they treat the employees well too. I cannot tell you how good these guys were! Our move was complicated as there were three stops. It poured the whole time they were loading the trucks. They protected my floors, wrapped all furniture well and got everything to the right spots. Oh and there was a piano too, that they moved with ease. They told me that moving is stressful enough and that they were there to take some of the stress off us. Doing your job well day in and day out is a real art and a statement and it says something about the people and the company. Kudos to them! They were not the cheapest bid we got but they were correct in their assessment and it actually ended up being slightly less than the bid. Very fair business practices. read more

We recently used Priestley & Sons to move from South Concordia to Kenton. The moving guys were efficient, friendly, and careful. There was one small area of damage to a desk, which they quickly reported, and for which we received an instant reduction in the price of the move. I was very happy with my moving experience. On fairly short notice (around the holidays), I called on Thursday, December 20 and booked for December 26. This company does not charge for travel times and only charges when they arrive at the pickup spot and stop charging when the task is accomplished. Art and Kenny arrived in a timely manner and were extremely professional. My husband and I had to store our home in two 10x10 units as we were between the sale of our condo and the purchase of our home. The furniture was wrapped in no time at all. They also treated our new mattress with care. The invoice was under what I was quoted. They did not take any breaks and got it done. I would highly recommend this company. read more

I was referred to Priestley & Sons by a friend, and I have to say, I'll definitely call them again whenever I next decide to move. They were very efficient, while still being extremely careful about my things. Tony especially (I can't remember the other mover's name, but he was great as well) made it a point of pride not to scratch or damage anything. They were great about getting my things from the 2nd floor of a house into a basement apt, both with tiny hallways and tight corners. I would never hire them again. Two guys came right on time, but didn't introduce themselves. I tried to be friendly and showed them the house and what to move. They didn't speak. I had put stickers on boxes that were very fragile and told them heavy things should not be put on top of them. They moved my house contents to a storage unit. When I went the next day I spent 3 hours rearranging it - extremely difficult! Fragile items were not stored on top. My heavy $500 floor model ac was stored on its side on top of my dresser - shouldn't they know not to store an ac on its side? It was in its original box. Super heavy stuff was placed on top of boxes I had marked with stickers and indicated were fragile without regard. I had told them, "nothing on top of sewing machine table," and as I was searching for it, I noticed all the hidden pockets that weren't being used - things stacked around dead space, and also areas under furniture were not used. I think these two movers were either extremely inexperienced or just didn't care. Someone came a couple of days before to look around and give an estimate as to time. I felt like the guys made darn sure they used all the time plus a bit more, and frankly, I don't think two trips were necessary. I had a 2 bedroom house - no big appliances to move, no couches, basically 1 bed and two dressers and other odd pieces and mostly boxes. Why didn't they bring a truck that was big enough? I had blocked the area in front of the house with cones, so parking wasn't an issue. When they left for the first trip, they just took off. Then they turned on the wrong street, and about 1/2 mile from my house they stopped. I had been following them wondering where they were going. It was like they forgot that they needed to follow me. The move cost more than $1,000 for 6 3/4 hours. I thought I would pay a lot and get really experienced, careful movers. Several years ago, I hired guys off the street for $10/hour - they did a fantastic job. I didn't mind paying, but I expected two guys that would at least speak and follow directions and know how to pack a storage unit. I still haven't found my sewing machine table. It's buried in there somewhere I guess. read more

We as a family, son, daughter and who ever we can tell have been using Priestly and Sons since the early 1970's. They have moved us to the beach and back and across town a couple of times. I use them when I need in house moving such as the exercise bike up and down the stairs. They have stored and moved our piano a couple of times as well as a pool table that has a 3 piece slate top. I cannot say enough good things about this company, we have never had damage, they have always been prompt in arriving and the movers are efficient and very careful. Every mover has been polite and most of all I have never felt as though they were "casing the place" they do their job and keep things moving. We have all felt the pricing was reasonable, in fact I have never researched of compared pricing because of the quality of services Priestly has provided they are worth every cent. read more

I looked through a few different companies and settled on Priestly & Sons, mainly because they said they would put protective coverings on our new home's floors when other companies said we would have to do that ourselves. I'm SO glad I picked them (I also found out moving companies are regulated by the state, so they are pretty close to the same cost as each other). I asked for a 3 man crew on a weekend (their policy is 5hr minimum for weekends) and they showed up exactly on time, ready to go. They wrapped everything carefully, used moving blankets and wall and floor protection and showed a great deal of care moving our possessions. They worked very efficiently too, no time was wasted. We also had some items that required disassembly that were tricky in my opinion, but they handled it perfectly. The crew were also extremely respectful and kind to my wife and I. It was a great experience overall, and the best choice I could have made. Believe me, it's worth every penny to hire movers, just in the lack of stress physically and mentally alone. We just pointed where we wanted stuff and it was done. We were so happy with our experience that we tipped them $150 and I honestly wish I could have afforded more (new home, so we were on a tight budget). Hopefully my recommendation is valuable to them as well, because I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more

My last move was an interstate move and I'd used one of the "big guys" with a giant compartmentalized semi truck. I had no idea how to find a reputable local mover for Portland! I received an excellent recommendation for Priestley & Sons from my realtor for my 2 mile move. My realtor and her daughter had both personally used them for their own moves. When I called, the customer service guy on the phone was super helpful in booking my local move. He went through the items in my home I knew I would be using the movers for and gave me a rough quote for how long he thought the move would take. The pricing was an all-inclusive hourly rate that included gas, mileage and 2 movers. Higher insurance does cost extra. I was scheduled to be the "afternoon move" on a Monday with a loose start time because their schedule was pretty booked for the dates I wanted to move. I received a call about an hour before the movers got there, giving me an ETA. I was told they'd be there between 1:30 and 1:45 after they got lunch. They arrived right on time and got to work immediately. The movers themselves were very nice, professional and careful with my belongings. They went the extra mile to get my oversized sofa through the front window (it wouldn't fit through the awkward front doorway), even unscrewing the wooden base from the sofa to get it through and then reassembling it inside the living room. There were no surprises at the end when it came time to pay. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of customer service provided. I would highly recommend Priestley & Sons to others. read more

Great people, from the estimator to the movers themselves (Ben and gang -- fast, helpful, courteous and understanding of moving day kerfuffles) through to Theresa herself (39 years with the company) who I called in a lather when I couldn't find my jewelry box and was afraid it was hauled away in a wardrobe (it wasn't; I had put it in a closet). Over the years, we have used both local and long distance movers. Never a better experience than with Priestley. Everyone was professional and courteous. It seemed like they really wanted to make our move easier and they did it..... for under the bid they gave us. We were moving from a rural area to the Pearl. We called another local mover who said we would need to get the parking permit ourselves. They would not even come to our home to give an estimate. Priestly knew what needed to be done for parking permits and how to work with our building requirements (loading dock and elevator). Hopefully, we will not be moving again, but if we do, we will call Priestly and Sons. read more

Priestley and Sons moved our household 70 miles. All parts of the process went smoothly, tho the risk was a bit more than I thought, e.g. they only pay 60 cents per pound if the articles are damaged unless you purchase more insurance. Based on their reputation, I did not buy the insurance and all the items arrived undamaged including an expensive dining table. Friendly people who worked with me to reduce the overall cost where it was possible. read more

I needed special care taken with some humongous house plants which mattered more to me than my household items, which were minimal, and my move involved a trip from Troutdale to Roseburg, which is an overnight affair. They arrived on time and quickly emptied my apartment. I gave them an hour's head start and made numerous stops for dogs' needs along the way, and to my joy, having entrusted my babies to them, overtook the Priestley truck south of Eugene going a sedate 55 mph. The plants arrived safely as did everything else -- a month later and I've uncovered absolutely nothing damaged or broken. They worked like clockwork and even came in under estimate. Had a horrible experience with them they took my things in 3 trips, in the process lost some very important things and papers. I called 8- 23-12 after the initial move on 7-23-12 and unpacking everything to report my concern and see if they had found them. After listening to me I was asked if everything was opened, did I put the things away someplace else, (?) , did I really have those things, they only make one trip for moving, make no other stops, they don't take things etc. I said I only wanted my things, not accusing anyone of taking them. I contacted Priestly and Sons based on a recommendation of a friend! They provided a free estimate which ended up being within $6 of the actual cost! Pretty amazing based on the fact that his was a fairly sizeable move-2 trucks and 4 guys (Robert, Marty, Daniel and Ben). They were on time, careful, efficient and maintained a good sense of humor through out the day. It was an 8 hour move and they worked as hard the last hour as they did the first! It was an extra bonus that they provide the wardrobe boxes for me on that day! This saved me some serious cash! I had researched several other moving companies even with my friend's recommendation! I appreciated that they let me pay with a check-other companies require a cashier check or cash! That's tricky if you don't know how much it's going to actually be based on uncontrolled variables, which there are with any move. They also had to negotiate 2 sets of steps on both ends and that did not seem to slow them down a bit! I would highly recommend them and would use them again!
