As Much as I have talked this place up to my friends and family, and from previous experiences (over the years). The standards going into this place are high. Not to mention the pricing for the fare. It's been about a year since the last visit, which food and service was exquisite. This last visit I was appalled. It was fully booked that night and did have kind of a late rush. My family was in from out of town and I wanted to give them the best steak they ever had. So naturally I took them to Press. We sat at the bar since the night was booked already and had no chance of getting a table. We had a small group of 4 so I thought no big deal. The first thing I noticed when things began to go awry, was when my sister asked the bar keep what wine they recommend (8k or more onsite) the guy's reply was "I don't know what you you want". Not this is our best seller, or this is something new, or this is what I like. It was arrogant and completely unhelpful at best. So she ended up changing her mind and not ordering wine, and went with a cocktail (Bloody Mary), followed by the starters and mains. We got the cocktails after about 10 mins. It was the worst bloody mary ever, literally just tomato juice and vodka, no spices very bland although it seemed the tomato juice was fresh. My sister mentioned to the bartender she didn't like it and his replay was "ya this place doesn't have the best bloody marys" and leaves it in front of her, and walks off. She pushes the drink towards the back of the bar table to show she is not going to drink it, later the bar keep comes and discards it. I tell them (my family) not to worry the food is gonna make up for it. I begin to remember how amazing the food was in the past and how clean and organized that kitchen was and how wonderful the food looked getting to the pass, the Chef grabbing the plate and inspecting. I decide to take a peek in there as I make my way to the restroom. Someone was in there so I waited by the kitchen entrance taking a look in the kitchen down the line. This is when my fears really started to settle in. I look down and see clutter on the pass to the point where you cant even really see the stainless counter tops as they are covered with pans and prep, Garde Manger was busy with orders, the grill cook had a disgusting black chef coat on SUPER FILTHY, and covered with different colors of mess, fumbling about with a huge tray of steaks, whilst face and forehead covered in sweat, (I can only imagine the horror waiting the poor soul who had his (the grill cook) sweat drip on that steak). I'm looking around and I don't see the chef on the receiving end of the pass. I do see what appeared to be food expo, who take a look at me with a weird look and continues to call his order out. I made my way back to the table after , and our our starters came out, Onion ring, deviled egg and beef tar tar (the tar tar was not very good, it tasted like the beef had been sitting in a refrigerator totally exposed). I ended up squeezing lemon juice from the lemon in my cocktail over the beef and adding salt to make it a little more bearable. I continue eating it anyway and thought the mains would make up for it. So our steak comes and and my buddy and I split ours while my sister and her husband split theirs. The server walks the steak up and offers to cut it in half, I agreed and she walks off, the sides show up and we are starting to get excited for the food. about 10 mins. go by and I'm wondering what happened to the steak I look around for the server and find her at the cutting station just beginning to cut the steak in half. She walks it back over and serves us, I go to cut the first bite and the meat is super rare, the marbling is still white in the middle, and the inside is still cold (supposed to be Med. Rare). My sister and her husbands steak came out (supposed to be med. well). The steak looked totally off, disproportionate, super THIN, as if the regular cut was cut in half and then that piece cooked, and then was cut in half as well. (this cost $67) My sister not knowing what was going through my head when I saw the plate, says to the server, "I ordered med well". he replies " you want it up?" She says "I ordered med well, it's still red, you call that med. well?" He says again " you want it up?". This order was done wrong, and instead of doing it over, it went back to put the undercooked meat back on. The sides grew old and cold as we waited and so did my patience with the stupidity and disappointment. I canceled my order and left after speaking to management. This place needs to address the staff who are clueless, and get a grill cook who knows the how to cook a steak and knows how to treat that wonderful prime beef from that great butcher. Less than 2 percent of the beef grown in the U.S. is considered Prime, none of it should be wasted or treated like it was by the clowns that night. read more
