Poor Customer Service and Dismissive Attitude
My wife and I were really excited to visit this store, especially since it's an hour away and we've heard that it caters to collectors. Unfortunately, after two separate visits, we were left extremely disappointed by the lack of customer service and dismissive attitude from the staff.
First Visit:
Before making the drive, I called the store to ask if I should bring in some figures for trade. The staff confirmed they were accepting trades, so we made the two-hour round trip. However, when we arrived, we were told they were not accepting trades, despite being told otherwise on the phone. There was no apology or explanation, leaving us frustrated and feeling like our time had been wasted.
Second Visit:
Still wanting to give the store another chance, we returned, hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, this visit was even worse. We were never greeted, and the staff made no effort to engage with us or even acknowledge our presence. It's incredibly disrespectful to be ignored, especially when we were kindly asking questions about the items they had.
At one point, I asked if I could see an item behind the desk, and the staff was dismissive and unhelpful. Contrary to what they might have assumed, I wasn't scanning prices on my phone--I was simply comparing my own collection with what they had. Why would they get so upset if I had been checking prices? After visiting other stores, it became clear why--their prices were much higher than most places.
I spent time selecting items for trade, but I wasn't expecting a direct exchange; I was perfectly happy to pay the difference. However, the staff seemed to assume I wanted an even trade and dismissed the idea without even giving it a second thought. The whole experience felt off, and my wife and I both noticed how unwelcoming and rude they were, making it clear they didn't want our business. In fact, they even told us, "You should just go to Bookmans" -- who sends customers to another store?
A Hidden Blessing:
Ironically, Bookmans turned out to be a blessing in disguise! They had the same figures for a fraction of the price and their customer service was outstanding. We were blown away by the difference in attitude and pricing. If you're a collector looking for great deals and better service, I highly recommend Bookmans.
Similar Experiences from Others:
After reading other reviews, it's clear my experience isn't an isolated one. Other customers have had similarly poor experiences with the staff's attitude and unprofessionalism. One customer shared how their 9-year-old son was treated rudely by the staff when he was excited to buy a Spiderman action figure, with the staff getting annoyed by his questions and eventually saying, "I said, we don't have it!" in a rude tone. Another customer, Carlos M., mentioned how he bought a $200 card, but when he got home, he found it scratched and in worse condition than described. The owner's response to his complaint was also dismissive, making excuses rather than resolving the issue.
Conclusion:
It's truly disappointing to see a business with so much potential treat its customers as an inconvenience. We won't be coming back after these experiences. Other reviews highlight similar problems with the staff's attitude and lack of professionalism. If you're considering visiting, be aware of the poor customer service and dismissive behavior, and maybe save yourself some time by visiting a store that actually values its customers. read more
