Ok, I popped into this business to hunt down the Teddy coffee stand inside that I'd been stalking, and I was immediately blown away. The place is huge, with aisles and little coves packed with treasures at every turn. It's not just books either--there are games, movies, music, collectibles, jewelry, quirky gifts, and so many unexpected finds that you could easily lose track of time browsing. The atmosphere is relaxed, colorful, and full of character, with cozy lounging spaces that make you want to settle in and stay awhile. Every corner feels like it has something new to discover, whether you're digging through shelves, admiring the displays, or wandering toward another section just to see what's there. Whether it's a magazine, Fender Stratocaster guitar, 1980's metal cassette tapes, LP's, maybe a graphing calculator?? - puzzles, entire decades of video games and miscellaneous wires and controllers, or even a an odd book mark, THIS is the place! There are ONLY two Bookmans left in Tucson, and even through the pandemic, these places bring in the crowds. Sometimes the prices aren't much of a bargain, so check online if that's important otherwise the inventory if huge here. The customer service is always top notch, today I was looking for a coin collecting book and sure enough, they had it; and knew EXACTLY where, on what shelf it would be all from communication from the counter. The staff are all knowledgeable, you and they offer an Educator's discount of 20% if you're in that line of work and as many may not know, you can Trade in nearly anything there! And while the plethora of people are constantly working those front doors, the lack of general seating is something I don't think the management sees properly. People are always looking for a spot to sit as the store is huge; management, please, seriously take note! I love Bookmans and always will! I've loved this place since I was a kid and I make it a point to visit every time I come to Tucson. The prices haven't changed a whole lot since I was little which is nice. I love their book buying program and have existed solely on store credit for years now. I love bringing my old stuff in and shopping while they evaluate it. I live in Oregon now but I make sure to hang on to my credit slips for my next visit. The parking lot is huge but it can still be hard to find a spot on weekends. The store is clean, as are the bathrooms. The people working here are a real delight and are always super friendly and ready to help out with whatever you need. I will always be a Bookmans fan as long as they exist. read more

I was in heaven when I walked in here. Wish I could have spent more time, but from what I did get to browse, I was one happy girl. Great prices on most used books. They had some new books and the prices weren't very competitive as they seemed to be the same prices as regular stores. I strayed from those and walked away with an old book I had been looking for, for a while, that only cost me $6.50 for a hardcover. I also left with some really cute bookmarks. They also have dishes, collectibles, and I think maybe some electronics from what I could see. I'd love the chance to visit again, but with as many times as I visit Tucson, it may be a while. read more

I used to love coming to this location (Speedway) but this is the third time that I've gotten extremely rude customer service from multiple employees at this store. Which is a really sad thing because they have great selection and ok prices. One of these times I asked someone for the bathroom code, the cashier said word-for-word "I have like 12 things going on right now, I can't help you".... I had waited in line to get that response? Another time, I was looking for a specific book and once again, waited in line to ask for help... and had eyes rolled at me. Just genuinely disappointed in the service to a point where I, a customer who has been spending their money at this Bookmans for 5 years, do not want to come back due to a lack of respect of the patrons. I have bought games, and teaching materials from this store that were missing game pieces in the past, so to see teaching supplies so highly overpriced secondhand completely shocked me. I love that Bookman's is so huge they have space for more than just the top sellers or new novels you'd find at other booksellers. I also love that they exchange all entertainment. Been shopping at Bookmans since 1991. Back in the day it was easier to trade, prices were great and the staff was awesome. Nowadays it's become much harder to sell / trade stuff. The prices can be really good still but other items are overpriced especially for second hand. Also from 95 until the lockdown they had inter store transfers. This was great because the stores are a slave to what's brought in by the customers. If Flagstaff had a title you wanted. Just call the store and have them xfer it to Speedway. They stopped because of the lockdown and never restarted it. It sucks because if you find one in Flagstaff and you live on Tucson's far east side you have to go to the Milton road store which is eight hours round trip. I find I am shopping more at places like Zia or Amazon. Better selection, new or used and they ship between stores if not to your front door. Maybe they can earn a star back but it's gonna take work on Bookman's part. read more

I bought a book that was torn, had the previous owners signature inside, and some juice stains on several pages, but the store was charging me full price. It's a mix of musical instruments, art, music, movies, electronics, games, comics, books, and a bunch of other knickknacks. I could easily spend hours in there rediscovering my childhood and teen years. Just an amazing place. Prices seemed reasonable on used stuff. The bathrooms need a little help though. You need a code to get in. I'm not sure if that's because of riff raff that might come into the store or something else. Also, the bathrooms needed attention. All stalls had no toilet paper left. You had to use the paper towels for your hands in case of #2. Other than the bathroom issue it is a fascinating place to relax on a hot day. read more

Came in to sale some items , they took forever and ended getting nothing claiming my items were in rough shape , half of the box was on the table they didn't even bother to put the items back, Elenor a minimum wage worker was very rude and when we tried to talk to the manager, they dismissed us as if it was a joke. I used to love Bookmans Exchange, but that experience is long gone. They are not only incredibly picky, they're also extremely stingy. We brought in three full bags of books. Popular titles, newer releases, gently used items. They took one book. One. And this wasn't just us. While we were there, multiple other customers were openly questioning what was going on because they were experiencing the exact same thing. We overheard a worker repeatedly saying "it won't sell" while turning away books like ACOTAR. Be serious. Those books absolutely sell. The process itself was also a mess. We were told to bring games to one area, books to another, then brought cameras and were told to take them back to the books area. Then suddenly, "oh no, we don't take those here." There was zero organization and no clear communication about who reviews what. Overall, the experience felt chaotic, dismissive, and honestly frustrating. Ever since COVID, Bookmans has turned into an overpriced, underdelivered bookstore that no longer feels worth the time or effort. I have no reason to go back. And I won't. read more

They had so many old things from the 90s and I just loved every minute of it. it just felt so cool being in the store and just reliving my childhood. Found so many cool things from books, games, clothing, to trinkets and novelty things. This particular Bookmans was well organized and staff was super helpful. There is something for every age group and genre. Now it is visible from Speedway with a fair amount of parking. Several other vendor well within walking distance in this shopping plaza. I love Bookmans! I grew up in Mesa and spent my fair share of time in the Bookmans out there. This location is great. They have a HUGE selection of items ranging from books, to instruments, to gaming equipment, and records. I love walking around and seeing what I can find. Their trade in options are great too! I upgraded my record player and was able to trade my old one into Bookmans for a decent store credit. This is the perfect spot to find books and records at a good price for used goods! This place is laid out nice with wide enough aisles to pass through easily. Books are alphabetical by author within a designated area. The trick is to figure if a book that has a mystery component is in fiction or mystery section. I'd suggest checking fiction first which has a large section. Some areas of non fiction are more limited. Prices appear to be roughly half of the original cost. Paperback books were about $8.00 to $9.00. There is a section for children where they can sit and look through books and there is a pretty nice selection of children's books. We ran into this situation and while our wallets felt lighter we came out with a lot of unique and fairly reasonably priced items. Always fun and funky. Who doesn't like a comfy chair and a good book. Lots of funky and fun little nooks and crannies to find treasures in the store. They have jewelry and metaphysical stuff and Wiccan, records, musical instruments, video games, clothing, a children's section, and I could keep adding the list just goes on. If you want a fun and funky little hip hang out kind of store to come just hang out at, then this is definitely the place. I'm not sure about the east location but the north location says if you take the receipt into the coffee shop next-door you'll get 10% off. Definitely worth a visit. I don't know why every time I need to deal with one of the employees on the phone there is a patronizing tone. I called to see if a book was in stock and the salesperson said it didn't sound like I was sure I was going to buy it so should he give me a week. WTH? What does this guy know about me and my intentions? Other times I've come in to sell books or musical instruments and the exchange also was dripping in attitude. I'm moving to Europe so getting rid of books and DVD's etc anyhow brought in 9 large boxes of hardcover books, 3 of which were cookbooks. Anyhow I got $9.50. I've been going to Bookmans for decades and think I'm finally done. I am so tired of getting ripped off. My boyfriend I took a perfectly working 1980s old IBM all in one PC to the eastside store. They gave us $15. The very next day we went back and the had a $350 price tag on it. What a slap in the face... absolutely enraged instantly when I saw it. I couldn't believe it. $15 and they are selling it for $350. What happened to we offer you 50% in store credit or 30% in cash? Ohhh you didn't mean that.... ohhh you didn't realize it's worth until after you paid us the $15 and we left... ohhh you didn't realize it worked.... ohhh what other excuse can you come up with?? I'm interested in hearing how this works... how can you justify paying us $15 for something you put a $350 price tag on. I'll never shop here again. There's got to be consumer protection laws against these practices and I fully intend to pursue whatever avenues necessary to make sure no customer has to feel this rage running through their blood. This has to be illegal. It's definitely unethical and just downright dirty. Of the three Bookmans locations in Tucson, this one is the BEST! It has the SAME vibe as the Phoenix & Mesa locations, but it's more spread out and open. I think this is the LARGEST store of all of the BM locations. There are even a few bistro tables with chairs in this location, IF you need to sit down. This one has a decent selection of pop culture collectibles, TONS of video games, lots of fun gift items, greeting cards, puzzles, board games, etc. Excellent selection of new and used books, DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, etc. Friendly staff. Clean and very well organized store. Trade credit is very good. Parking is ok, hard to find a spot on a Saturday afternoon. Many fantastic small businesses & Beyond Bread in the same shopping center. I typically love Bookmans, I've been buying, selling, and trading at various locations in Arizona my whole life. The staff at this Speedway location is remarkably unfriendly, particularly the male employee with the dark hair and beard who represented the music department. He laughed in my face and rolled his eyes at me regarding my attempt to trade in a perfectly functional, incredible quality keyboard piano. This dude continued to scold me and speak so rudely to my face about the fact that you simply had to unplug it to turn it off is a major inconvenience and "turns customers away" - it's been that way since I bought it and that's its one and ONLY "flaw". He flat out refused to accept it and scoffed at me as he handed it back. The other staff members remained rude and unhelpful when I asked for help in other matters, like asking for additional information about available DVDs. I'm really disappointed as I have always had great experiences with the staff at other Bookmans. I definitely suggest going to the other location in Tucson and avoiding this one. read more
