Excellent selection from comic books soft & hard cover. Fair selection of novelty items. Plenty of room to comfortably navigate around the store. Parking is off to the side and back, so a short walk to the front. A kids area to sit with your child and skim a couple of books. Very clean and well organized setup. Cashier was very helpful... Stopped here due to the artwork seen on outside of building, what better build-up to anticipation on what is inside then cool murals on the outside?, inside is very clean, well-lit, and organized. Greeted as we walked in the door (cool), headed over to the $2, and $1 boxes- Pulled a couple I needed (about 18) which was very nice. So interesting and sought after books for the cheap, not just unsellable garbage nobody wants "Bonus Points" for sure. Loved lay-out, Titles easy to read and find, definitely loved the system. Drawers that pulled out and very easy to open, look, and see what is available with no muscle strain. Only issue I had was my favorite titles were on bottom (Alphabet) so still had to get low (sucks for us old guys) but definitely way better system than most shops. Managed to find an issue that I have been searching for, which left me with one more to close out the first run of Wolverine (full series). Upon check-out it came up in conversation and Eric went in the back and brought out the last issue I needed to complete my collection. Boarded & bagged it and sold it to me at a decent price. Really enjoyed the conversation, the customer service, and the great finds. Definitely will be back on my next visit to Tucson. read more

Right from when you walk in, this place does not have good vibes. With my friend and his dad, we are some of the only customers, no music on and the only employee didn't even bother to greet us. Books out on the floor are not bad, but not great. Some are incredibly over priced but I notice some of the more interesting comics were in the case. There are several stacks so I can't see what's exactly under what. I ask to look and the guy gets up from his chair without saying anything, walks to the case and asks, in an uninterested, annoyed tone, which stack. I say I'd like to see them all and, filled with venom and malice spits, "what?! You want to see all of them?" And I reply "well yes, I can look pretty fast too." And he proceeds to bring out one stack at a time of not only the most absurdly overpriced but also mostly lame and boring issues as well, with the exception of a few Conan's. I walked into this place and it felt off. There was a certain air about this place that felt tense and uncomfortable right from the get go. It turned out to be exactly that way. I browsed around looking for my X-Men comics and really liked the drawer system they have for the back issues. It's so organized and easy to look through. When (I assume) the owner Matt came by to ask if I needed assistance, I asked where they kept their wall books? He asked "wall books?!" (A commonly known term) with an annoyed tone to his voice and a face to match. I replied "You know, your high end/special books?" He directed me to a case that he let me look at. I was really shocked at the prices. Inflated doesn't do them justice. $80 for a book that's usually around $50-$60 at other places is just unbelievable. I left and I was happy I didn't find anything I wanted because I wouldn't want to give them my money. The store looks nice and the storage units they have for the back issues are really nice, but when I'd mentioned my bad experience with a couple of other locals they all said that it wasn't an uncommon experience at all. read more

Avoid. I've given one star for their fairly robust selection, but the customer service is terrible. I was approached by clerk that sternly warned me not to look at too many pages of a book. The ol' "this is not a library" approach. This is a flawed business strategy. It makes the accusation that I'm not going to buy something because I've already "consumed" it. In effect, labeling the customer a thief. That is a big turn off, and you run the risk of losing hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of sales from their return business over the years, as said customer will never shop there again. As much as I want comic book shops to survive the digital revolution, I can't support such elitism. read more

The staff was nice and friendly, unlike the other places, where the staff judged me for being female and assumed I didn't know a thing about comics. This is a wonderful little hidden gem of a comic store. Stopped in here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. They have a great selection, including some back issues and plenty of books. The owner is knowledgable and friendly. My favorite part however might be the children's area. Nice to find a comic book store with a kid's area, complete with floor space play room. How wonderful! Fantasy Comics is the cleanest and most well-organized store in Tucson. It's always comforting to walk into the store and know exactly where to look for something. Recently the store has overhauled their back issues so that they're all in long boxes on pull-out shelves all individually labeled. This makes thumbing through them an absolute breeze. I've never seen a better setup in a comic store before. There's also a 10% discount on all back issues (and trade paperbacks) for subscribers. My only complaint with this system is that I wish the discount was a bit higher considering how high the AZ tax rate is. A 10% discount pretty much just takes the tax off of a book but I guess every little bit helps. As for new comics, Fantasy offers not only a full selection of the current week's books but shelves full of books from the last two weeks as well as an entire wall dedicated to comics released in the last six months. You'll have little trouble filling in a current story arc or buying up missing issues to a current run. Last but not least, the employees will always make sure that you find what you're looking for. They won't just point out where something is in the store, either, they will physically go searching with you until they find it. It's a pleasure to go into the store each week, read more

I have been coming to Fantasy Comics for a couple of years now and have always had a pleasant experience here. For example, my daughter was born around Free Comic Book day 2015 and I went to Fantasy Comics before she was born. I let them know that I wasn't going to be there for the event and the owner Matt had saved me a few comics when I came by a week later. Another time, I was trying to purchase a new copy of the Wizard of Oz omnibus and he found me a used copy that was half the price. I understand that some people had a bad customer experience here but I haven't witnessed any incidents in the multiple times I come here. I'm fact, in reading some of the reviews, it seems that some customers bring drama with them before they come in and maybe that reflected on their experience? Anywho, I love it here. Sure there are other comic shops but they don't have the quantity that Fantasy Comics have on hand. read more

I remember coming to this store at all the different locations over the years. It was the place I use to go to quite often as a kid. The new location is definitely smaller and has impacted the selection of comics. I will say that they are an authorized CGC dealer, which is awesome. They have a great selection of graphic novels. Fantasy keeps changing locations but they seem to have been on 1st for a while now. Great selection of comics. This is just pure comic book heaven. Boxes and boxes full of them. Prices seem good too. I shopped a lot with them as a kid in the 80s and into the 90s. Occasionally I swing by and enjoy what they have to offer, and they fill that itch for good old comics. They have backing supplies/plastic and everything you need to maintain your collection. They have some graphic novels and probably more now, and some action figures and stuff here and there. It all comes down to three things: 1) Expansive selection 2) Knowledgeable staff 3) Location, location, location If it's worth reading, chances are they have at least two copies of the trade paperback. If it's not worth reading, they still probably have one copy. Their back issue selection is quite vast, and is easy to browse. If you have a question about a certain book or are looking for recommendations, each member of the staff is immediately able to spout some interesting facts about the book, provide a well-directed suggestion or simply show you exactly what you want. Matt (the owner) doesn't care about his customers. I've been a patron here for the last 3 years and the service has been decent. But the real kicker is this. I've been working with different businesses here in Tucson and As I was getting ready to make a purchase with Matt (the owner himself) I offered to talk to him a bit more about an idea that could help him with his expansion (that worked with another business). When I asked if he would be able to sit down and talk more, his answer to me was "No, I will NEVER be interested in hearing you out". This was not just insulting to me, it was a reality changer. If after 3 years of buying comics my input was literally "NEVER" going to be welcome, then obviously he is not looking to build a relationship with his customers. If you are looking for somewhere to feel welcome as you indulge in our mutually expensive habit, go someplace you will be treated with dignity. read more

Just in the store this morning. The one guy working was a complete jerk. My daughter accidentally knocked over a hardcover book that was standing up on a shelf. He had a temper tantrum and threw the book down and sighed loudly. Said we were just regular people and he is special. He said the book is $125 and had no explanation for why it would be balanced upright instead of more securely stored/displayed. I will never patronize this store again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has ever had any sort of accident knocking something over in an aisle that isn't OSHA compliant. read more

It's a neat little comic book store, but the service is absolutely horrible. I went in today to see about some comics, and was treated very rudely by one of the staff members there. I seem to be interrupting his lunch that he was having at the main counter by the cash register (do they not have a lunch room, or a designated place to eat so the customers don't have to watch?). I was actually in shock by the way I was treated, and haven't seen bad service like this at a retail store in years. The new owner is trying hard and establishing a comic shop that fits the modern collectors needs. He has a large children's area. Huge back stock. Good collection of modern toys. The clearance section is fun. But that is not what makes the store unique. There are sections for consignment items. This gives the little guy a chance to sell too. Then there is a huge vinyl Pop section. And two display cases with good selection of vintage books. For someone that is looking for older stuff that is great. They are trying to make a better Tucson comic community and that is important. read more
