Have you ever gone to the Pig and Pancake and ordered a $16 plate of slop, wolfed it down, and then…read moresaid, "Oh God, what have I done?" Yeah, me too. That's why I've decided to stop hurting myself and go to the Chalkboard Cafe instead. The difference in quality of ingredients and cooking is apparent in the first bite. It really is a bit jarring. This restaurant makes everything from scratch, and I mean everything. Yesterday my son and I got two burgers and our potato salad and coleslaw sides were like sides my mother would make in her kitchen, not globs of shelf stable Reser's food-paste that were made two states over a month ago and sprayed with mortuary chemicals to stop their decay. The food at the Chalkboard is real food, not fake food, which brings me to my next point, dietary restrictions. If I had any dietary restrictions whatsoever, gluten sensitivity in particular, this would be where I would go for breakfast or lunch in Seaside. Chalkboard has gluten free biscuits and gravy available, delicious GF naan bread made by hand, and gluten free versions of popular bakery goods made in their small kitchen from scratch. Even if you don't have restrictions you can be assured that your meal will have 80% less total ingredients just based on the restaurant's ethics alone. They aren't taking shortcuts, they aren't bringing junk into the building in the first place, so junk never ends up on your plate. The service is stellar, the ambiance is charming and clean. You're out of excuses. You were wondering where you should go to eat, and now you know. Go to the restaurant where the locals take their own families - the Chalkboard Cafe.

Excellent Mexican Food option in Seaside!…read more Kids really raved about it that we had to go back twice, and the food was consistently good each time. A service was little inconsistent, but still good. Server was responsive and gracious. (2nd server did fail to provide guac and sour cream for our fajitas. Food: Birria Tacos (4.5) adding a little of their Diablo hot sauce to the consommé maded it a (5) for me Steak and Mira fajitas (4.5) Both were solid and the portions were generous. Kids butter noodles and spaghetti (5) were claimed as 'great' by the kids. The place is clean, but confusingly empty. It's located in a strip mall type location, and black \ dark color scheme as your drive doesn't come across as a restaurant. But it really is a clean spacious spot with really good food. This place is worth the 2min drive for a Seaside stay. Seriously it's the 2nd favorite restaurant here for our 7 days stay.

Finally, she just grabbed a couple menus and asked "For here or to go?" We said for here and she just barked, "Anywhere." OK fine. So we chose a table. She asked if we wanted something to drink. We asked for iced tea. "No ice" she said. No ice??? Weird. There was also an incessantly loud beeping sound coming from the kitchen that was beginning to drive me absolutely batty. At this point, we were extremely unimpressed, and after glancing at the menu to see that everything was very overpriced (cheapest meal was a minimum of $17), we got up and left. I don't know how they make their overhead with service like that.

Positives: -their prices were very good and reasonable. -you get a lot of food, great bang for your buck. It was much appreciated especially coming from California where everything still costs an arm and a leg. It's so bad in California that I would have to share with my wife when we go out to try and save money. Sure we can stay home, but we're on vacation and I want to give her a good time. In California I would have to decide between filling up my tank or going out to eat ‍ -we got the BBQ mix plate which had short ribs, teriyaki chicken, and bbq beef. Everything tasted great, I loved how the chicken wasn't too sweet. My wife loved the galbi, that's saying a lot because she's very picky with her galbi. It was just the right amount of savory and had just the right amount of fat. We also got the poke bowl, the fish wasn't too sweet very good and tasted fresh. -service was quick and friendly Ambiance: Note that this is a food truck though they gave a small covered area for rainy days and if you want to eat your food right away. It's that food. Overall 5/5 We didn't expect to find such good Hawaiian food in Astoria, can't wait to come back.

It's on property at a Shell gas station with a convenience store and Growler Guys branch. There is enough strategic parking spots for quick pick up and go. The ambiance of this spot is that there is ample outdoor seating for those brave enough to handle the weather, with most of them covered for rain protection. The service was authentic Hawaiian Style customer service. It always starts off " Whoa, what part you from"... And the conversation could go on for hours without even talking about food. Owner is from Wahiawa (Island of Oahu), his cousin helping him cook is from Waiahole (Oahu) and the daughter of the owner was taking the orders up front. The first test of any Hawaiian Comfort Food eatery is the weight of the take out container. If you need two hands to carry the package, then your in for a treat. The BBQ mix plate was on-point. The Teri-Beef had the right amount of sweetness and juicyness making it a must try for any first timer trying Hawaiian comfort food or former Kamaaina, craving for Island grinds. When people travel along the Oregon Coast, Fish & Chips or seafood is always on top of the eating bucket list. However, you may want to add Tuimato's to that bucket list, for belly satisfaction and enjoying a little bit of Hawaiian Style hospitality.
