We started talking to Luke at least a year prior to actually making a purchase decision. They are so busy, but Luke, Donna, and everyone else at Premium Cabinets are always willing to help and work with you. We are remodeling our house and decided to change up our kitchen and Luke met with me as much as I needed and even came out to the house in the rain to see/understand what I was working with. He took the time to look up appliance and sink specs to make sure he knew exactly what we needed for cabinet size and gave me multiple options for material types and colors. Donna helped me look at tile and countertop colors and organized the hardware for the cabinets so I didn't need to decide what size pull for each drawer, etc. There was a lot of behind the scenes work they did and the product was great. During install, I think I had given them the wrong microwave height and the installer didn't check the microwave, so it was too short and the microwave didn't fit. Luke said he'd cover the replacement panels/labor and sent Aiden out to fix it for me. I offered to at least split the cost since the error may have been on my end, but he declined. I can't tell you enough how appreciative we are to Luke and his team. They aren't the cheapest option, but their product is solid and their customer support is great. Don't waste your time with this store. There are many other places in town to buy cabinets who will treat you better. In the end, they were able to correct the problem with the cabinets, but it took a lot of time and effort on the part of my interior designer and myself. The experience with these folks was frustrating and time-consuming, and I even had a designer who dealt with them. The vanity drawers arrived damaged, drawer corners misaligned and wood splintered. Luke offered to have his crew try to fix the drawers. Bad idea. They fixed them, brought them back to my house, but I had to tell them that repair job was not acceptable, as they could not repair the damage. So they finally ordered new drawers which were very nice. My designer still likes to work with them, but if you are on your own, go somewhere else. Luke yelled at me and that I don't appreciate that. I know in his reply to this review, he will say there are two sides of the story. However, he yelled at me and made me cry. He told me that I would have to pay the postage to send the drawers back to the manufacturer. In the end, his employee brought the new drawers and took away the old drawers. read more

Over 6 years later, these cabinets still look wonderful. The plywood box construction is solid, and the shelves we have are straight, no sagging. The finish has held up very well for a painted surface, and I know from past experience that painted surfaces are delicate in a damp, high use area. I am careful to dry the cabinets if they get wet and am careful not to ding them. No surface cracks in the paint, even at the joints. The slide out shelves were a splurge, but are a space saving dream and I cannot imagine life without them. They fully extend and hold lots of weight. The only issue that we have had is with a hinge on an often used L-shape door, and a replacement pin was all that was needed. read more

There are some 10,000 cabinet suppliers in Southern California (Luke's figure and it's probably close), so why choose Premium Cabinets? We had no idea where to start, but I had found a card advertising cabinets at contractor prices in recycling bin under our PO box at Postal Annex. We started there. They carried most of the brands that you might find on Houzz, but his most popular was a Diamond line (similar to Lowe's). The cabinets as configured would be around $13K (install on our galley kitchen would be extra). We started there and began looking at the higher-rated Yelp cabinet shops. We had bids from $8,500 installed to much higher. Premium came in below the original bid, but higher than our lowest. However, as we talked to Luke, we were impressed with his attention to detail and thought that his suggestions were great. We could see them assembling cabinets in the back. The cabinets were in good shape (at one highly-rated shop I visited, there were cabinets set for install where the back corners were visibly broken). Premium Cabinets carries at least three lines. They, too, have a Diamond sub-brand that is made in the U.S. and looks great. It has a variety of customization options. He also carries two import lines. These cabinets were going into a condo in Encinitas, so we didn't want to overspend on the boxes and never be able to get the value out of them when we eventually sell. We chose the better ready-to-assemble imported cabinets that were made with 5/8" ply and had slow-close everything. We visited a couple of more shops before deciding to go with Premium. Luke came to the house and measured (my measurements were pretty good). We made some adjustments to the original plan during the measurements and put our 50% down. Premium sent to MSI for countertop material. They LOVE Luke, Donna, and Dan. Very easy to work with (see my review). Tower Nine was their subcontractor for installation. They LOVE Luke, Donna, and Dan. And their work was AMAZING (see my review). The installation took about a day-and-a-half. They worked very clean and very fast. One note on install: We were ready for installation before they could install. If their crews get caught up in a job or there is some other delaying issue, it can cause yours to be delayed, too. That's one reason why our $29 induction burner came in so handy. We were able to survive. Premium sent us out Ferguson's to look at fixtures and get ideas. Again, they were huge Luke fans. We found the hood and faucet there, as well as the sink. But, when it came time to order, he wouldn't return our calls or emails. It was the oddest experience. We ended buying the sink (a Blanco) on Wayfair, the Grohe faucet on Build.com, and the Zephyr hood we got on Discount Bandit. So it goes in retail. We used one of his counter installers, Danny Cervantes. He's out of the South Bay. He knows his stuff, but he tended to promise to do things when there was no way that he could fit it into his schedule. I think he just wants to make you happy, but his time calculations generally require 34 hours in a day. However, he stands behind his work and is another craftsman that leaves the work site in good shape. As a note, we ended up using quartz. It can chip during fabrication (or even install). Epoxy can solve almost any issue and Danny is an Epoxy master. (Note: If you are also replacing windows you might want to do it first or just make sure that the counter does not extend past the older frame as replacement windows actually sit inside the original construction frames - '70's aluminum in our case. We had conflicting advice on whether to put in the counter before or after the windows went in. In the end, we put in the counter before the windows. We couldn't do a full 2" bull nose as a result, but could use the kitchen sooner). We've been using the cabinets for about 3 months now and the kitchen has been full functional since the first of the year. One thing that Luke didn't mention was HOW EASY it is to keep the cabinets clean. We have gray lowers and white uppers. They look as new as any drip, splatter, or spill can be easily cleaned off. The sliding drawers all work well. We have a 3" and 6" pullouts on either side of the stove. The 6" holds spices better, but the 3" is great for squeeze bottles of oils, some spices, etc. Also, Premium has a solid selection of handle styles available and don't mark them up. We are still figuring out how to best use all of the cabinet space, but we like having the trash/recycling by the sink and the pantry space is all very usable (we have another pantry area off the kitchen where we store small appliances etc.). And, they are such UPGRADE on our 70's union-made, particle board cabinets. Another nice thing about Premium. I had picked up a Kohler bathroom cabinet at Home Depot that kind of looked like the ones that were in the kitchen. Bought our first home back in 2018 with big dreams to remodel our kitchen. When looking, I assumed the big box stores would be more affordable so I reached out to Home Depot. This was still during covid times, so I was limited on my interaction with anyone. It took the person (whose job it is to SELL cabinets), 2.5 weeks to even get me a quote. It was poor communication with her and just not an ideal situation for a large purchase. I began looking on Yelp for other companies that had good reviews to attempt to get a quote. I reached out to Luke and told him I was waiting on a quote and how I had been very frustrated with my experience with Home Depot. He had got me a quote estimate with just info I provided in a day (2 max). I was very pleased. Then comes in the Home Depot quote.... $3,000 more for the American woodmark, and then about $5000 more for Hampton bay, that was particle board by the way. I could not believe it. Blew my mind. Luke only sells real wood cabinets and doesn't waste time on the cheap stuff because it's more problems for everyone later on. I told him my husband and a family friend were going to be installing the cabinets and he was very accommodating. We have had them installed now for several months and we are just so pleased. I wish I had all good things to say about Premium Cabinets but I don't . Here are the good and the bad : First I have to say the order and delivery was great , quality " made in China " was not so good. I found lots of scratches and one unopened box ( spice rack ) had a big scratch and also inside. I right away email and spoke to Luke on this issue and said many times they check every box but this one in particular I know for a fact it wasn't opened. So I was stuck with it , he didn't even offer a replacement. His step son came down and gave me the fixer kit to hide the scratches but you can still see it . Another issue I didn't like was his 3-D design drawing , as per design I thought I was getting 4 drawers and I ended up with only 3 . I was very disappointed that he didn't even gave me the heads up, he then told me that the drawing is not always correct because of measurements. He kept recommending his friend Noe witch I know this will be over my budget. This was a DIY project with a good kitchen contractor who I trust and know very well. My contractor spoke with Luke and I heard Luke be very condescending and rude to him , we just had simple questions to ask . I know he will reply to this message and say why I didn't hire a "Real " kitchen cabinet contractor. So for you guys out there who like to DIY your kitchen you best believe Luke won't help you after he delivers your cabinets. Overall they are nice people , fair prices but very hard to deal with when it comes to issues . I was able to get my dream kitchen despite all the pain I had to go through ! We are very happy with our cabinets. We went into this knowing that white cabinets tend to be a little more difficult to work with. But with our small place, we wanted the white to brighten up the living place. We had a basic idea of what we wanted, but Luke was able to pull it all together. With the different options with slide outs, lazy susans, soft closing drawers and doors... it all came together. Luke was patient with us as I think we changed our design a few dozen times (kidding, but not). The nice thing is the design sheets that Luke will put together to help you get a visual on what the kitchen layout is going to be. This is super helpful for someone that cannot visualize the kitchen before hand. We were under the gun a little to pull the trigger on the layout as they were having a price increase. This scared us a little as we were a little unsure about a few of the measurement. But the nice thing was that the cabinets arrived early and Luke was willing to store them for a good amount of time to when we were ready. Luckily in the end everything was what we wanted. The price is very competitive with Premium Cabinets, which is partially why we went with them. You are also getting a lot of the "options" as a standard when you go with Premium cabinets. We also used their recommended installer, Noe. Noe, was also recommended to us by some friends that did a Lowes kitchen a few years ago. Now Noe is on his own. We are happy we went with Noe. His process when he gets there is organized kaos, but he knows what he is doing and does it well. We purchased a home on 4/20/2105 and decided to sell the boat and buy a kitchen. We'd already performed many other upgrades upon purchasing the home so we began the adventure of designing a kitchen with Luke and his family. All of this was a first for us and i believe this was your typical renovation. There were several highlights and several problems that came up through the process. Despite any problems we encountered, Luke always exceeded our expectations and was skilled at the process of rolling with the punches. Lets face it, hidden issues occur in every remodel, especially when you take it to the studs and start over. But, we couldn't be happier with our kitchen and the design choices we made. We used Luke for everything including his hook up at Fergusons and we purchased the hardware from Premium cabinets directly. Premium Cabinets, were recommended to me by a friend, after reading their reviews, I decided to give them a try. I had all new cabinets made for my bathroom vanities and my hall. They were so easy to work with. We had a few mishaps, but Luke and Noe went out of their way to correct the problems. Noe, went above and beyond to install the cabinets. We worked with Luke (the owner) earlier this year when we were remodeling our bathroom and were in need of a vanity. After checking out several other vendors, we stuck with Luke mostly out of convenience -- I live in Oceanside, he works out of Oceanside. Note, before purchasing from Luke, we checked out some of his competitors and found his products and price point on par with other local vendors so really no differentiation in what you can expect here as opposed to other vendors. Let me be clear, there is nothing special about Premium Cabinets. As such, I would recommend you take your business elsewhere. Why? Well here is my experience: I purchased one thing, but when my delivery date came, I received something different. Under competent management, this classic textbook mistake is an easy fix (or arguably avoidable altogether if truly competent) but hey, I'm reasonable, nothing is perfect. That being said, when businesses drop the ball and place the wrong order -- or receive the wrong order and don't bother to check if what they receive is indeed what the customer ordered -- then any follow up communication with the customer should be precise and clear. Again, textbook stuff. In the end, Luke never made it right. Instead of reordering the correct vanity, he offered to come out and Frankenstein what we received into what we had ordered. When I pressed him for a time window for when the swap would occur (which is not only a progressional courtesy but critical if you're working from home so you can block off your calendar) he totally shut down. What a clown. In the end, he refused to fix his error, blamed everyone he could but himself and left me to fix his mistake. Ultimately, this was a small project that I was able to resolve on my own, despite having paid Luke full price for something he didn't deliver. But what about your project? Would you trust Luke? Let me tell you, he had no problem ripping me off. Once an offender, always an offender. My recommendation is to not even give him the opportunity. Take your hard earned money elsewhere. read more
