I went in for a routine oil change and was treated to fast, friendly service! I went earlier in the day (9 am) so it was fairly quiet and the waiting area was well-maintained and comfortable. I went down the street to get some coffee at SpyWorks Coffee (there was a Starbucks nearby as well) and then returned to hang out until my car was done. Pricing was comparable to an oil change elsewhere, but the nice waiting area and friendly service made it a more appealing option to me than a Jiffy Lube or PepBoys. read more

This precision tune is a mixed bag that I will be staying away from in the future. Why? Because I went in for a simple brake job.... a very random small squeak.... they couldn't find it but said my front pads were "in the red zone".... he said my total of $575 for pads and rotors..... as I haven't had too many issues from here before, I said to go ahead.... then, thinking about it, I realized that I had zero other symptoms of any other issue.... when I called and asked why my rotors where to be replaced, it was for "warranty" reasons they *have to change rotors* So, if you want a simple brake job with a warranty, you can only do that when you replace rotors too... even if they aren't bad.... when asked about this it's to "save me future problems"... I didn't ask for that, I asked for pads, and that should have been all. Very polite people, but let's be honest, selling you more than you need hoping they will never get questioned. BE AWARE I will be editing this as well after I get my friend to throw the calipers on my old rotors to see the measurements match. I believe in fair play, so I will gladly admit if they were correct, but given all the word salad I was given, I doubt it... read more

Not sure who was taking the calls right now, (1 p.m. Monday, 6/30) but just because I couldn't get my car there for an oil change by 4pm, or dropped off on a Saturday, the call was ended quickly. When I called back again because I was not done asking questions, and I happened to have a question about tires and I need a set of four before winter time, the phone was picked up, and then hung up as you have caller id. WTF? Look at my previous review, I like coming here. I really do. You're convenient. Your friendly. Other stores benefit by my shopping as I wait. You even let me bring my dog inside with out a hassle. But maybe your having a bad Monday or things have changed. If they've changed, then I'm sorry as I'm done. If you're busy, take my name and number and call me back. I totally get it. Everyone gets busy. Just don't hang up on me. That really pisses me off. So now I have an appointment at Parkway Autocare down the road and they sell tires along with all the stuff you do too. Plus I can walk there which makes it convenient for the pooch. I'll let you know if they are dog friendly after my 5pm appointment tomorrow. read more

Excellent, honest service for a great value. My air conditioning went out on my 6 year old car. I had found a coupon and brought that along to my appointment. The owner offered me a better coupon. He was friendly, polite. His shop fixed my issues in a timely manner and a very effective cost. Even though I live downtown Minneapolis and work in Maplewood, I'd make the extra effort to come back to this location for any future service that my car or my husband's car will need. Seems there are four steps to this oil change process as a customer, so I'll go through them. 1. THE APPOINTMENT: Knowing I was going to be in the neighborhood for a meeting, I made an appointment by phone the day before for an oil change, wiper-blade replacement, battery check and tire rotation. Jason, the manager, was friendly and helpful. I was pleased that I could get in the next day, even though they were very busy. 2. THE DROP-OFF: I called 2.5 hours before my appointment to see if I might be able to get in earlier. They said to come right over---so I did! 3. THE WAITING. I walked down the street to St. Clair Broiler for lunch. It is nice that there are some restaurants, coffee shops and things to do nearby while you wait. Jason called to ask if they could clean my crusty battery hook-ups to do the diagnostics (it was $13 extra). I said cool. Then I got a burger. And at the exact moment I finished paying my lunch bill, Jason called to say the car was ready. So speedy, especially considering that they got me in early too. 4. THE PICK-UP: When I got back, Jason gave me the recap of what they had done and said there was just one small, non-timely thing I should look into getting adjusted in the future. I loved that he wasn't salesy about it and didn't try to get me to book that appointment there or anything. I felt like he was giving it to me straight. And that's what is important to me in a good mechanic... well, that and actually being a good mechanic. read more

Based on my service today, I'll be taking my car back to Precision Tune. I scheduled my oil change at the end of last week. I took it in this morning and they got things moving right away. They suggested I get my tires rotated, which I had forgotten to ask them to do in the first place. Then once the tires were off, they also said I needed new brake pads and front rotors. Normally, I would have been pretty skeptical of a garage trying to get me to fix things on my car, but I had been told a few months ago by a mechanic I trust that I would be needing new brakes soon. So I gave them the go ahead, after I was promised by Jason that my car would be ready in about an hour. He had parts rushed over and my car was done in 45 minutes. Other pluses: the waiting area, if you don't feel like walking to nearby coffee shops/eateries, is clean and comfortable. There is complimentary coffee via a keurig machine and free wifi. Additionally, there is a 2 year warranty on parts and labor. I may come back to change my rating to a 5 if the service seems to be just as good and reliable after 3000 miles and it's time for another oil change. read more

After my initial post (7/17/2013), I received a call the next day from the owner Tim Gleason. He was empathetic and heartfelt and I appreciated his apology. Most importantly, this week he has confirmed his commitment to follow-up with training by a local consultancy that is well-versed in racial sensitivity training. This was the action I had requested be taken in my letter and what I perceive to be the best outcome in this case. I trust the training will enhance the business, be useful to the larger team and bring resolution. I've felted talked down to from time to time and pressure to make repairs I didn't want to make, but have gotten decent service. I have seen some other customer service experience that have been less than professional but nothing that would make me stop going to the business. I had a very disappointing customer service experience after a mistake was likely made during my car repair (after previously positive experiences) and will no longer be taking my car to this shop. I had an alternator replaced and an oil change 1 week ago and received great service at that time. My car started feeling wobbly in the passenger rear side within a couple days of taking it home, which became worse over the course of the weekend so I took it to my tire shop to have the tires evaluated (brand new tires 3 months ago). Upon inspecting the tires with the mechanic at the tire shop, we noticed there was some sort of patch on my rear passenger tire and two lug nuts were missing. Seeing as I have had these tires for ~3 months and the only other place I have brought my car during that time was to the tire shop to have the new tires put on - I have no explanation as to how my tire was mysteriously patched and 2 lug nuts became missing. I figured someone at Precision tune must have noticed something and did a quick tire repair for me and forgot to disclose this when I picked the car up. It seems most likely that perhaps a couple of lug nuts were already missing at this time or were not put back on the tire after the potential repair. With no other explanation for this happening, I spoke with Jason at precision tune to determine if any tire work was done and he was immediately defensive that there was absolutely no possibility that these mistakes would have occurred at precision tune but was unable to offer any other explanation for this strange occurrence. I was not seeking any financial gain and simply was seeking to understand what may or may not have happened, an apology, and assurance that this would not happen to someone else. Mistakes happen on occasion no matter what measures are in place to prevent them and it is arrogant and unprofessional for a shop manager to deny that they never would and not offer to investigate this incident that could have had devastating consequences. I will be returning to a shop further from home that I offers transparency and disclosure in their service. read more

They addressed the problem I brought my car in for and didn't try to add on unnecessary repairs. I've brought three cars to Precision Tune since 2004 and have become a lifelong customer based on the service. I had chosen them as a garage because they were close to my college and they reminded me of the small town familiarity I had in my hometown garage. I've watched the place go from basic garage interior (nothing fancy) to comfortable and stylish working area while my car gets serviced, all the while remaining a St Paul shop with a small town feel. Jeff has worked with me on all of the ups and downs of car ownership and has never pushed me into buying repairs I couldn't afford. I love getting the detailed write up of what was done on my car, plus a list of recommendations for the next few months (my cars have never been new). The work has been good, and when mistakes were made (it happens, I know), they were quickly taken care of and I felt even more valued. I even bounced around 4 other shops between St Paul and Minneapolis as I moved around throughout the years to try and find this quality of service, but was disappointed every time. I called them last week to make an appointment to have an oil change during my haircut, and was told that I wouldn't need an appointment, and that they don't really "do those." When I went in yesterday for the oil change, I was told they had no time left, but could get me in on another day, and he had a reservation book right in front of him and wanted me to make an appointment. Obviously not thrilled with that since it's a waste of an hour for me to come in when I had planned to kill two birds with one stone. When I informed the gentleman working there that I was told I wouldn't need a reservation, he simply said "okay!" Obviously it's not the end of the world, but why would I ever want to go back after they wasted my time like that? read more

I called Precision Tune Auto Care because my check engine light turned on the day before I was heading out on a long road trip. They were booked up all day, but suggested I drop it off and they would get to it when they could. I was getting tires put on 'when possible' by Discount Tire that day, so I couldn't leave it long-term. I mentioned that to Precision Tune Auto Care guy, and he told me to bring it in quickly and he could read the code in 5 minutes. I brought my care by and the front desk man immediately came out to read the code. It turned out to not be a big issue, so he told me I was good to go and didn't charge me anything. I really appreciated that he took a break from their cars to check the code for 2 minutes for free. It definitely made my day significantly better! Definitely a good indicator of service! read more

We have taken our two cars here several times and have always been happy with the results. The instance that stands out most is when our older car's "check engine" light came on. We had taken it to another shop, where it spent eight hours, with no communication and no fix. The puzzle took a while to solve at Precision Tune, also, but the difference was we had regular updates of what the mechanics were trying. (When we googled the computer code on our own, some online mechanics literally suggested ignoring the engine light, saying it was impossible to solve.) I'm still driving that car, and have had it back in for routine maintenance several times. Highly recommend these folks. read more

What a gem of an auto care place I have found! I started coming here quite by accident a coupld of years ago. They did my oil changes over my lunch break, and always gave me a great price without the coupon. My 7-yr-old van needed a repair here and there and they were always accommodating and offered great service and prices. I have checked their prices for comparable service in the area and this Precision Tune is always below the average price. The guys are all super friendly and I feel confident that they are taking care of my vehicle at a great price and I don't need to worry that they are doing repairs that are unnecessary. If there was a zero star option, I would have chosen that. RIP OFF! I brought my car there about a month ago, they charged me $375 for JUST the diagnostics test. I paid them and took my car somewhere else. Before I left, the mechanic came out and told me that I shouldn't let the car idle for too long because he left a cap off (which was sitting on my passenger seat) AND there were wires that he didn't re-connect, so if it idles for too long it might start on fire.. I also believe that they ruined other things under the hood just so they could make extra money because I don't know anything about cars. I would never recommend this place to anyone and will never go back. read more

Got me in for a quick oil change and an assessment for why my car was leaking oil. I can't go five stars here because they called me to tell me my car was done about an hour before official close, and left a message saying they would be leaving in 30 minutes. I didn't get the message until 35 minutes after the call. Also I thought they'd top off fluids but they obviously didn't do my wiper fluid. Not a huge deal. read more

I came in four an oil change and I found out I need a new battery and my front brakes replaced (I had needed to jump my car a few times and the emergency brake light was on when the e-brake wasn't engaged). Not only did they get all of those extras taken care of in an hour and a half so I could get my car back before they closed, but they understood that I was a new customer and I was spending a lot more than I intended to and gave me some discounts on my bill. I honestly have had the best customer service - ever - here. We've had the unfortunate luck of having a few 'lemons' of cars over the years, and it wasn't until we moved to the MacGrove area, and discovered this location, that we actually didn't dread bringing the car in. They offer free inspections, have always been up front and honest before doing any work, oil changes have been quick & painless, and have referred us to our dealership when the issue was covered by our warranty. The latest issue we had brought the car in was a whirling noise. We brought it into Precision Tune on Snelling, and they told us right away that it was a transmission issue, and knowing we had an extended warranty on the car, said they recommended we head directly to the dealership. When I got to the dealership, it took them over an hour to do an inspection, and informed me it wasn't the transmission, and sent me on my way. A week later, the transmission blew, and we were without a car for almost a month. I really was thankful that Precision Tune clearly knew what they were talking about. While they didn't perform the work due to trying to help us save some money, they gained my trust even more by showing they did know what the issue was. read more
