It's hard to believe that it was 10 (ten!) Years ago, when I gave this place a 5* review. Well, my last experience here changed EVERYTHING. My wife brought in the car for an oil change, and on pickup the manager discussed the condition of the drive belts.. He told her that they were "the worst he had ever seen" and that they were "ready to fail at any moment". Now get this.. he quotes her over $350.00 for replacement! Yes, three-hundred and fifty dollars for one hour of labor and $30 in parts. I'm sorry, but that's nothing short of criminal. Absolutely shameful, trying to take advantage of a lone woman (who just happens to be married to a retired mechanic, unknown to him). Needless to say I'm thoroughly disgusted with his behavior and we will never return. Oh, I ordered the new belts (Continental brand, mid-range quality) from Rock Auto for under $20 total. A good neighbor installed them for us, for which I paid him $60 cash. Took a little over an hour.. for an amateur, who knows how to do basic to intermediatec car work. read more

I had a terrible metal on metal sound when leaving the Midway post office. Entered the freeway at Lexington and it only got worse, so I stopped on the freeway (which is frightening in and of itself) but could not see a flat or anything wrong. Exited at Dale and wondered where on University might have an auto place and this was the first one. When I turned into a parking space there it stopped - so likely a pebble that dropped out. I was very concerned there may be more permanent damage or that it could start up again so I went in to have it put on the lift and checked. Total fee, $28.50, total time, under 20 minutes. He checked all four tires anyway. I also mentioned that I forgot to put my new plates on (when he was looking for the plate number) and he also did that without asking. He said they could not fix my car in that moment, which was fine, but said he would call me back to let me know a price estimate and time frame. He never called me back. It was just odd. I have been a 28-year customer, and this place was great. Just amazing. I could walk to and from my work, and it's right on the Green Line. The prices were great, service was fast and friendly, etc. But today as I was driving in to get a battery light (and likely alternator issue) checked, my vehicle died as I was making a turn. I called for the shop's tow company's number and the guy answering the phone thought I was hilarious. He also wasn't listening as saying "Bring it on in" after I said I need a tow indicates that someone clearly isn't listening. Was I supposed to push the vehicle in? I have come here for all of my vehicle needs. No more. My mother passed away last week. I have also lost a beloved pet. My longtime employment is up in the air. You don't know what's going on in my life, I don't know what's going on in yours. But to laugh at an obviously upset person is horrible. Please treat your future customers better. Fantastic service and knowledgeable staff. I bought my car four months ago from a dealership and brought it in for an oil change (assuming nothing would be wrong with it) but they found out that the tire rods were falling off the front tires and tires needed to be replaced. Thank god for them. I will be coming here for all my car needs. The manager was also really nice. They were really good at showing/explaining everything to me (someone who knows nothing about cars) so that I understood everything really well. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I had a couple of successful oil changes there, and I appreciated how the manager calls to thank you for your business. I also had one headlight changed successfully. This past experience has convinced me to never return. The other headlight went out, so I returned to have it fixed. One night later, I realized both of my headlights had suddenly stopped working (other cars kept flashing me with their lights), but when I hit a bump one turned back on. One of the lights just didn't work so it must have burnt out again, and the other one that they had just worked on was missing its backing! The wires were exposed and had been jostled loose. I called and setup an appointment. They were gracious at the appointment and replaced both bulbs for free. This would have been perfect, except that the guy at the front desk told me that no wires were exposed and took the time to show me in the car motor and try to make me feel crazy. I know they were exposed both because I saw it and because several of my friends did. I don't appreciate the sneakiness of their actions (trying to convince me that I was in the wrong and they had done nothing wrong), and therefore I cannot trust them with larger repairs on my car. I really like this place. They've provided fast and reliable service to me on several occasions. A big part of why I like this place is the manager Van. He's very trustworthy in my opinion. I've asked him and his crew to look into a few things on my car that could cost me money if I needed to fix them, and he's always given me a straightforward answer instead of always saying "yes you should definitely fix this." In other words, when I ask for his opinion on a matter I feel like I'm getting an honest answer that's with my best interest in mind. read more

I have come to this place on 3/22/2019 and paid $1695 almost $2,000 just for a breaks, rotors and 1 hub bearings. They only replaced 2 front rotors by the way and the back ones are horrible. This was an emergency so I had to quickly get brakes on my 2010 Tahoe because I would never pay such an amount. They literally scammed me out of my money. I also came there with my brake lights and reverse working but somehow they wasn't which was another scam. I have come back more than 6 times and finally gave up trying to fix the brakes because they've done such a horrible job. My brakes still squeak and but they can't figure it. They keep saying it's the suspension which in another way of trying to get me out of my money again. I wouldn't record this company at all or at least this shop. Please go to a family owned or a trusted shop and save your self some money because this shop isn't the place. read more

I had really horrible experience on university in St. Paul @ Midas I got a oil leak fixed n they did not put my drain cap gasket back on I brought it back 3 times they told me that I was fine now my engine is not running same before I brought it to them and now my engine is giving me issues now they are not trying to take responsibility for what they did to my car. read more

I came hear on a whim because I needed a new tire, the one kept going flat. I got there and they immediately went out to look at my car and then brought it back to check things out. They came in to let me know that I would not need a new tire, but they can just repair the tire. I do not know much about cars and they could have totally sold me on needing four new tires, but they were honest. I don't usually pay much thought after car visits, but they were exceptional. The staff were super nice as well!!! I will actually make the drive over there for other services because of that experience. read more
