Eric and his team at Precision are truly top notch. Not only do they do quality work for reasonable prices, but they are kind, communicative, and overall incredibly pleasant to do business with. I brought my (on its last legs) 1997 Nissan Maxima to them and instead of milking me for every possible repair (there were many), they worked with me to suggest only the most necessary work. I was told to drop off the car whenever needed without having to call first, and I always got a call midday with an update and service plan. All work I ever got was done by the time I got out of work and upon picking up the car I would get a detailed account of what happened and what to expect next as well as photos or tours of the actual work. When my Maxima took its final ride and was no longer financially wise to repair, Eric offered me to drop off any car I was considering buying as a replacement for a free checkup with him first. He gave me advice over the phone as to which cars to avoid, and then did a full look at my first choice without any charge. The next day, when I happened to park the car near his garage while I was at work, he even called me to tell me I needed to move my car soon in order to avoid a parking ticket that would be doled out in 10 minutes by the NYPD. I couldn't believe he remembered it was my car and took the time to call me just to help out. That's the great thing about him as businessman - he cares about the people behind the cars instead of just what they are driving and how much he can make off of them. I highly recommend doing work with Eric and Precision! The team is a true gift to find in an otherwise stressful and uncertain world of auto repair. The first time I went to Precision, it was to get my 1998 Subaru Outback past NYS inspection (the car was previously registered in Washington DC). I was initially expecting it to be a quick job ... but then I was told that there were multiple issues with the car, and due to the volume of work necessary, the cost was more than I was expecting. Not knowing much about cars, I was initially concerned that these guys might be ripping me off. Turns out, the amount of work necessary was a combination of fairly strict NYS standards for inspection, plus some old problems left over from some unscrupulous mechanics in DC. All my dealings with Precision over the past few years have been honest and timely, and I would recommend them to anyone. A few months ago, I noticed that the gas mileage was getting lower and lower. I took it into Precision, and they said they had to replace a variety of fairly cheap belts and such in the car. I said fine. Later, I go into the shop to pick up the car, and Eric greets me warmly as usual. He offers (again, as usual) to walk me through the reasons the work had to get done, and takes me out into the shop to show me the old vs new parts. He explains that they replaced a variety of small components, except for the air filter ... that was fine. It was at this point that I remembered --- for the first time --- that we had gotten the air filter replaced in Connecticut a little while back. What stood out for me was that Eric could've easily charged me for a new air filter (I wouldn't have noticed), but he didn't. I think that is emblematic of Precision. My wife and I might be leaving NYC soon, and I'm not looking forward to finding a new mechanic ... I might honestly drive back into the city when I need work done. read more

Ultimately, I'm sure these guys do great repair work--HOWEVER, the "best" price I was quoted was DOUBLE what I paid another legit place to do the same work. These guys kept saying, "we need to do 'X' so that it's properly done" but so much of the quotation was fluff and extras that were totally unnecessary, despite the explanations and "computer glitches". If I was going through insurance, I probably wouldn't care, but I was paying out of pocket and they smiled and nodded as I explained my plight--and still tried to charge me an arm and a leg. An update on my previous review. I have been extremely impressed by Eric's response and efforts to make this right. I posted my initial review on Friday evening. By Saturday morning, Eric had called us and told me to bring the car to his shop despite being closed on Saturdays. Agreed the piece had been put back on incorrectly and was also broken. He promptly offered to order a new piece as well as another panel he noticed missing, but was clearly not the fault of his shop. He is eager to make sure we are happy with his work, and was visibly upset that one of his newer employees did not provide the standard of service he demands. So getting your window fixed after your car has been broken into is never a pleasant experience. Aside from the mess, the loss of property, etc etc, the ordeal of finding a place that will fix it asap, be kind, and most of all fair with the price adds insult to injury. Precision Transmissions takes that part of the issue away. Within five minutes I had a quote that was HUNDREDS of dollars cheaper than other places and the assurance that getting my window fixed and the glass cleaned up was top priority. When I dropped my car off at Precision, Eric, the owner, was not only sympathetic, but personable. These guys are the best!!! From the very first conversation through to the follow-up after the work was done, Eric and the folks at Precision did an A+++ amazing job. I have been fortunate enough to deal with great mechanics in the past but the team at Precision are at the top of the list. My wife brought our car in for an initial consultation and she had a really great impression so I brought the car in for a formal estimate. I was so impressed with Eric's level of professionalism, his knowledge about the insurance company's processes and the different ways he was able to look out for my interests through the ordeal. For example, when the insurance company tried to substitute in some alternative lower quality parts, Eric noticed it right away and fought to get me the right stuff. The job was done quickly and impeccably and I could not have been happier. Afterwards when I called to ask Eric if he made any tweaks to my side-view camera, he insisted that I come back in to get his team to take another look and make sure I was totally happy with the job. I had been taking my car to Precision for years and I recommended them to a lot of people because I was really happy with them, so it's unfortunate that I have to change my glowing review. I had noticed a decline in service, but the last time I took my car there for a service because various service lights were coming on the console, I paid almost $1000 and I'm still not sure what I paid for. After I picked my car up and the service lights were still visible, I took it back and I was told that after I drove the car around, the lights would come off. Because I trusted them, I took them at their word. Turns out the lights never came off and the car became worse. I could feel that something was wrong and it wasn't driving properly. I decided to just suck it up and take it to someone else. The mechanic asked me who did I have looking after my car because it was a mess. He listed everything that was wrong with it. Mind you this was a only a few months after I had it serviced at Precision. He had to keep my car for days and I ended up having to pay thousands of dollars to fix it. I'm not saying they caused the damage but I had been taking my car there for about 2 years. If they were doing what they were supposed to, then my car wouldn't have been in the state it was in. It was no wonder the service lights wouldn't come off. I had hoped that my car was just overlooked or something so I left it alone and didn't tell anyone. Fast forward a few months, my mom who also used to take her car there under my recommendation told me she was very dissatisfied with the service she received and that she wouldn't take her car there anymore. She also had to go to another mechanic and pay a ton of money to fix things that should have already been fixed. Then I told her what had happened to my car and she was a little pissed I didn't tell her before she took her car there. Needless to say I was embarrassed because I was the one who sent her and other family members there in the first place. I always think long and hard before I write negative reviews because it's not my intention to damage anyone's business. However, I also expect that when I trust you and send people to you that I won't end up getting screwed over, and in this situation I've been screwed over and over. read more

The owner, Eric, is organized, neat, and takes pride in his work. I really didn't want to replace the transmission in my 94 Camry, but he convinced me that the car was worth saving. After he replaced my transmission, the car ran better than ever, no problems at all. I believe that the standard warranty is 10,000 miles or 1 year, I can't remember, but the transmission was still working well past the warranty. I eventually sold the car (for other reasons) without any problem. Oh, and the work was completed in a timely manner. I definitely recommend this place. read more

He's upfront and honest about costs, so I haven't had that moment of showing up to pay and finding out I owe way more money than I expected. Based on the many good reviews on yelp we went to this mechanic for a routine emissions test. We felt really taken advantage by Precision Transmission. The mechanic quoted us $30 to change the lightbulb ($5 for parts and $25 for labor)! $30 labor charge to change an air filter (2 phillips head screws staring you in the face as soon as you open the hood). I can appreciate his attention to detail, but the labor rates were absurdly high. If money is no option, he's fine, but if you care about where your money goes, you'd be better off elsewhere. read more

Just spent the the morning at the DMV. The license plate these guys put on flew off while I was on the highway. This was not the worst of it. I spend a day waiting for a part to come in - the part that was being replaced had already been repaired.
