I mean, people, even the bathrooms had great products and cloth towels and smelled lovely. Plants everywhere. The space is so obviously well loved and cared for and it makes all the difference. Great vibes -- no pretentious folks, no hot messes, no obnoxious music (in the 3 hours we were in there they had a great playlist of NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts). There is a chihuahua named Bean guarding the door, does it get any better? Booking was easy -- we called on a Friday and were able to schedule two appointments for Monday afternoon. Clyde did absolutely gorgeous single needle botanical illustration work -- he designed exactly what I wanted and really did a fantastic job working with my reference photos. He is as kind and warm and fun to hang out with as he is a talented artist. She's custom designed 3 pieces for me now, the most recent being a a large multi session piece on my arm that was a rework of an old tattoo that was busted. Now we're planning the other arm! She also did a basketball for me and it's perfectly circular!!!!!Galadriel is a great artist and I admire her creativity and ability to work with what you want. The shop is a cool place to be. It's clean and decorated well. (The bathroom is so cute.) While maintaining professionalism and a high level of knowledge the camaraderie between artists is evident and the shop owner Ken is a cool dude. I went to K42 Tattoos after seeing a friends tattoo that the owner Nicholas did. I went in and he…read morerefreshed an old tattoo for me and I loved it! So I made an appointment for my next tattoo. A few days before my appointment, I noticed on their Facebook page that someone was upset that he missed their appointment. I called to confirm my appointment, and was told that Nicholas was out and took his appointment book with him, and they didn't know who to call to cancel appointments with. So I waited...when I found he was back to work, I made another appointment. Then his mother passed - completely acceptable reason for a cancellation. So I waited...when I found he was back to work again, I made another appointment. I've been looking forward to this for months now at this point, and about five minutes away from the shop yesterday, I get a phone call telling me that he is running FOUR HOURS behind and would I mind if someone else would do my tattoo? Yes. I mind. So Nick got on the phone and I explained to him that this is the third time my appointment with him has been canceled, only one of those times is completely understandable. He asked me if I could come in at 10:30 AM the next day (today) - he swore he would be there to get this done and would even give me 1/2 off my tattoo. So I went. At 10:25 I got to the parking lot to find the building still locked up. And I waited. I called to make sure someone hadn't gone in a back door and was waiting for me to show up. No one answered. I sent a message on Facebook and still haven't gotten a response. At 11:00 AM two vehicles pulled up - one being an artist that was coming in to work, and I'm guessing the other may have been Nick and his wife and as soon as they saw me sitting there, turned out of the parking lot and left. When I went in and spoke with the artist that was there, she told me Nick had a scratchy throat. She 'attempted' to call him but his phone was going directly to voicemail. She offered to do my tattoo, but not being familiar with her work, I opted not to. I have friends that go to other artists at K42 and they have not had these issues. And while the wait to get Nicholas to do your tattoo is worth it, the headache for the no-show appointments is NOT. This is the poorest customer service I have had the displeasure of dealing with in a long time.
