Dr. Bonnie Chen, absolutely not. I have been wearing glasses and seeing specialist since I was in elementary school, but she has been the worst eye doctor I've ever seen. I am very nearsighted, have a decent astigmatism, retinal issues, and family history of eye health issues that could lead to blindness. When I would address my concerns with her, she dismissed them. She would tell me it is average life stuff that I wasn't having issues with. My final straw was when I expressed to her that I was having more troubles with light sensitivity - mainly when driving, but also when I was outside in general - even with the use of sunglasses. She told me it wasn't possible for me to have this experience because I have brown eyes. She then went on to tell me that I just needed my prescription updated (hadn't changed much), make sure my windshield was clean (already clean), and continue wearing sunglasses (still doesn't help). I went to my pcp and got a referral to another eye doctor. I'm glad I did. My concerns were finally heard and addressed.

In the last fifteen months, I have had an experience with Drs. Harper, Lark, Baer and Robinson and…read moretheir entire staff that should win them all awards. I had a crazy accident that caused my right eye to actually burst open and fill with blood. We thought I had lost that eye forever. We bypassed the ER and went straight to CEC where the entire staff jumped into action. Dr. Harper, my regular ophthalmologist called Dr. Lark in immediately. They consulted with Dr. Baer, who was out of town, on the phone and they included my wife and me in their discussion. My wife, a nurse, was so impressed by the level of collaboration we saw there. That, in itself, was a confidence builder. Just less than 2 hours from the time of the accident, Dr. Lark had me in surgery putting my eye back together. Along the way, I needed a vitrectomy and a lens implant-- 4 surgeries in all. We are so fortunate to have so many highly trained surgeons- each contributing his/her own area of expertise-right here in Concord . And their assistants and front office are the best. My doctors went the extra mile for me. They gave me their home numbers. They called to check on me. They knew we were worried so they saw me almost daily for a long time. Drs. Robinson and Baer arranged to do surgery at night after long days in the office so both could be there to work together. The teamwork among the staff at all levels was amazing and their kindness has been comforting. I could see that they were all doing their best for me. After the third surgery the doctors said that they were afraid there was little hope that my vision would recover. The next day, however, I saw light, shadows and even color for the first time! Two months ago, Dr. Robinson implanted a new lens in my eye which improved my vision greatly and this week I was fitted for new glasses that will bring my vision back to 20/20 in both eyes!! We will forever sing the praises of Cabarrus Eye Center. Locke Floyd, Concord, NC

If I could give this location zero stars, I would. This has been the most disappointing experience…read moreI've had with an eye care provider, and I have been receiving routine eye care since adolescence. My primary concerns relate to communication and professionalism at the front desk, particularly involving the office manager at the Rocky River location. During a recent visit, I was given incorrect information regarding my insurance coverage for an eye exam. I was initially told that I would be responsible for a significant out-of-pocket cost, which understandably caused concern and led me to consider canceling or rescheduling my appointment. When I attempted to clarify this with the front desk, I encountered inconsistent explanations and was informed that I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee. This was especially frustrating given that the confusion stemmed from misinformation provided by staff. When discussing the matter with the office manager, I found her demeanor to be dismissive and unprofessional, which further added to the stress of the situation. Fortunately, after speaking with a member of the financial department, I was correctly informed that my exam would be fully covered by insurance. While I ultimately proceeded with the appointment, the experience leading up to it was unnecessarily stressful and could have been avoided with clear and accurate communication. Additionally, I observed what appeared to be staff discussing patients within earshot of others, which raised concerns about professionalism and patient privacy. I do want to acknowledge that several staff members were courteous and helpful. However, my interactions with the office manager significantly impacted my overall impression of this location. I hope leadership addresses these concerns to improve communication, professionalism, and the overall patient experience.

I've had mixed experiences here, but my last visit crossed a line. I was two minutes late and…read moreneeded to quickly grab my phone from my car (as a single parent, it's essential I stay connected). One staff member acted like I needed her permission to leave the building, which was both unnecessary and condescending. During the appointment, the person fitting my glasses made inaccurate assumptions about my vision history, dismissed my input, and even physically hurt me during the fitting--with zero apology. When I politely corrected him, he brushed it off entirely. What makes it worse? I sent a kind, detailed follow-up email asking about important next steps in my eye care--lenses, drops, treatments--and nearly two weeks later, I've received no response. For a place that had no problem taking over $600 for glasses, the lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable. I don't recommend this clinic if you expect to be treated with basic respect or to receive professional follow-through on your care.
