I had to contact them months afterwards when I heard nothing and reminded them they need to come out to replace the skylight. And this is not an uncommon occurrence, a lot of reviews state the same thing that once the company cashes the deposit, crickets for months. During the replacement process, I noticed they used damaged wood and I was shocked they would even think using wood with dents and obvious flaws would acceptable for a $5,000.00 job. I brought up the issue to the receptionist but they didn't relay it to the workers so I had to bring it to them when they were in my home to fix it. They also dropped a hammer on my new hardwood floors and dented it which I caught on camera and you can't fix that. Their fix to the damaged wood was using a tub of wood putty and smearing it on the board, and then painting over it instead of replacing the entire section. To protect my peace, I let it go. But afterwards I was getting people from the city ringing my doorbell to inspect the light I wasn't aware of. I called the company to inquire if it was a scam, they said it was no scam and they informed the city to come to my home and inspect. I tried getting in touch with the sales rep for the second skylight and they've ignored me completely. No return calls or emails. With the way they operate, I'm not sure the company should have a second chance of a second skylight if they were this unprofessional the first time around.

The presentation was impressive and they guaranteed a certain percentage drop in our heating bill. But the final, lowest price was over $700 per window, way out of our budget. Then I called Rick at American Thermal Window who had installed replacement windows in my parents' house 20 years ago and had even made a recent free service visit last year. Rick actually drove with his wife who was originally going to stay in the car, but we offered her a spot on the couch with the TV. They are an older couple, very polite and dignified. His presentation was much simpler than Champion. He didn't present all the tech specs and he didn't guarantee a certain percentage of savings. But his window looks like very good quality and the price was about what we wanted to pay. He showed us a photo book with many of his home and business window installations. One location caught my attention, the Clarion Nantasket Beach Hotel that I'd seen many times. Unlike the Champion salesperson who gave me one price, then kept lowering it when we didn't accept, Rick made me one offer that my wife and I instantly felt was fair. About a month later, he and his crew were here and they installed all ten windows complete with capping around the exterior in one day. The workers removed and then reinstalled my blinds for me which saved me time and effort. The windows are manufactured by Stergis Windows & Doors in Walpole. Here are some specs: U-Factor - .30 Solar Heat Gain Coefficient - .26 Visable Transmittance - .53 EnerG Low E/Argon Top SS/DS Vinyl * Double Glaze We LOVE the windows. They are simple to open and clean. They have half screens that can slide up to the top or down to the bottom pane so that we can open either the top or bottom panes in the summer. Best of all, as it's gotten colder this fall, I notice our hot water heat barely turns on. Our townhouse stays warm and the heat is definitely working less to maintain temperature. These windows are dramatically lowering our heating bill and give us a more comfortable, consistent indoor temp. Earlier this month, Rick sent a handwritten letter of thanks along with all of the documents I need for my tax credit. He's a gentleman who will treat you fairly. I believe he's a man of his word which is important when you deal with a contractor.

I wasn't sure if the company was still in business, or if the windows were still under warranty, so I called Rick to find out. The company is still in business, and they stand behind their work. Rick arranged for the two worst windows to be replaced at no cost to me. He spoke with the factory, got the windows delivered, and had his installation guy come out to replace them, all at no cost. Where's your quote with the type of door being used? Also, the number is high. I ask for the SKU to look it up on my own. He sends me a generic link to an affiliate landing page for DOUBLE HUNG DOORS. Ok, so here's where you have to use your best judgement. These guys have great ratings on multiple pages, so they obviously do excellent installs. But that doesn't mean they aren't ripping people off, because you can get similar work done for MUCH cheaper. That's where I got him, bc he wasn't willing to disclose where his range was coming from and then immediately tried to pass me off to Renweal by Anderson, which is widely known as THE biggest price-hike in the game. The safe bet with them is whatever they quote you initially is about double what it should actually cost. So it makes sense the owner thought it's a reasonable peer in the industry.
