OK, so I sent my camera off to Precision last week, and I just received it back. The good news is that I got it back in record time. The bad news is that they didn't have the parts to fix it. I called them and, contrary to what other folks are saying, they answered the phone right away. And, they confirmed that, since they couldn't fix it, I wouldn't be charged anything. So, to close the book on this adventure, I don't understand why all these other people are saying bad things about this place. True, they couldn't fix my camera (but, then again, neither could Nikon). On the other hand, I found them to be prompt and easy to deal with and, if the situation ever came up again, I'd certainly give them another shot. read more

My Sony HVL-20 flash unit was out of warranty, so Sony recommended I to send it to Precision Camera for repair. The problem was a crack in the hot shoe, but the body of the flash was in excellent condition. Precision estimated the cost of repair at $95, which I thought was high, since a new HVL-20 costs $149. I called other camera repair shops and they told me Sony does not sell replacement parts to them, so I needed to use Sony's repair center. My only choices were to send it to Precision or buy a new flash. I sent my flash to Precision but did not hear from them for over a week (after they received it). When I called, they said the repair would cost $300, not $95. That was ridiculous since a new flash cost less than half the amount. I asked them to return my flash, but they refused. I immediately contacted Sony and reported this encounter with Precision, who in turn called and said they would return my flash at no additional cost. More than two years later, I'm still waiting for my flash to be returned. read more

After reading the negative reviews, I had to share my experience. I sent my camera in for a repair after reading that they were the company that Sony uses. Their quote was also much cheaper than anywhere else. About 48 hours after I dropped it at the post office, they emailed me with the price that matched the quote and asked me to call and provide my credit card number. I tried to call twice but couldn't get through (which is why the 4 stars instead of 5). At that point, I read the reviews and my heart dropped. I got so nervous that I would never get through or that my camera would be held hostage. I then sent them an email saying that I had tried to call them but it didn't go through and could they please give me a call. No kidding, within less than a minute they called me back, apologizing profusely. I was shocked. After all the bad reviews, I really did not expect that. I gave them my credit card number, they said it would be 5 business days and when the charge hit my card, that means the repair is finished and to check their website for the tracking number. I did and everything arrived timely and in perfect condition. I can't discount the experience of others, but I had a great experience with them. read more

I had to send in my Sony A7r which was under warranty to repair 2 issues: battery indicator was off and monitor had very bad banding. After I got my camera back, the issues were not fixed and all they did was they cleaned the main board. Now my warranty has expired and the camera is still not fixed. Sony needs to find a better third party to service their cameras. read more

If I could choose zero stars, I would. I am extremely dissatisfied with how they treated my camera and me as a customer. I am a photographer and videographer so having a working camera is extremely important. The lens on a recent camping trip and Sony recommended I send it to Precision Camera. So I did. When I received my camera back, I quickly noticed that it was missing a part! They forgot to put it all back together! Sure the camera was clean but it was incomplete! I went to test it and good news: they fixed the lens. Bad news: they broke something else in the process and now a plastic part is rolling around the inside of the camera whenever I turn it over. The charging port is also loose so when i plug it in to charge, the port actually goes into the camera! Eventually, that will go all the way into the camera and I won't be able to charge it. I asked for a refund because they broke my camera but they said they would not refund me. They told me I could send it back and they would fix it but I am never sending this camera or another camera back to Precision Camera. read more

If I could give Precision Camera zero stars, I would. After dropping my Canon Vixia HF G20 camera on the ground, I brought it into Best Buy for assessment. They sent it off to Precision Camera, who returned it back to Best Buy in a week or so. Great, problem solved. When I picked it up at Best Buy, the documentation stated: Unit Returned Unrepaired. Parts Needed to Repair Unit are No Longer Available. No Service Com. The Geek Squad guy at Best Buy didn't know what they had done. I called Precision Camera and was told that they needed to email their Best Buy Technicians and find out what exactly had been done. The rep said the only information they had in their records was the same that I had. I mean, is this place that big that they cant pick up a phone. She promised to get back to me within 24 to 48 hours. They could not tell me what part I needed, what the problem with the camera was or anything. I called back today and got another representative. She told me at first that she had no additional information to give me. I suggested her that it seemed odd that they received a camera for repairs but couldnt tell me anything that had been done. I told her that it would be like bringing in a car for repairs and having the mechanic tell you "we don't know what the problem is, but you need a part but we can't tell what the part was. She put me on hold to allegedly talk to someone and came back and said she had no information. I asked for a supervisor - FAIL - and she said that because the file had been closed, she couldn't access any additional information. She kept apologizing. I told her it was poor customer service. In the meantime, I had taken the camera into the Canon repair facility in Lyndhurst, NJ. In 5 minutes, they told me the LCD was broken, but the camera actually still worked through the viewfinder. The repair wont be cheap but it will be done in a week. read more

Precision Camera - Worst Option Available. I would rather fix my camera myself, blindfolded, using a toothpick and a chainsaw. Dropped my camera, the lens kept the bayonet mount, stripping the screws from the body. I wrote a note on the repair saying that the screws appear to hold the mount on the body, but the lens weight will pull the mount back out of the body, so please don't just screw it back together and send it back. The camera came back to me 4 days later, I mounted the lens on the camera and the lens fell off... they had done exactly what I asked them not to do. I called them and told cs what happened and they asked me to send the camera back, saying they will fix it in a week. I called two weeks later and they said it should be done in a week. I called 10 days later and they said it would be done in a week. I called a week later and they said parts were on order and they had to call Pentax. I called and emailed daily because they said they would call me with a status. They never called me with a status. My camera showed up on my doorstep. I noticed immediately that the camera had problems focusing. I pulled out the focusing calibration kit and the focus could not be corrected using the built in focus correction. I called them and they asked me to send it back. I asked for a shipping label, they argued about it, then sent me one. I decided not to send it back. I would not send them a flashlight to fix. Sent in my Olympus Pen EPL-6 for repair for a broken SD card slot as they are the only official Olympus repair business. Get a call over the phone telling me it's going to be over $500 to repair. More than the cost of buying a new unit. So I asked them to mail it back and they want $40 to mail it back to me. I run an online retail business (this was actually my camera for stock images) and I ask if I can send them a PDF return label. The response "it needs to have insurance and signature confirmation so you can't do that". I can create that same label and send it to them for under $20 but they are unwilling. So now I get to decide if it's worth it to pay their ransom fee or just tell them to scrap it while knowing that means they'll just repair it and sell for less than they want to charge me to fix it. Beyond terrible. Last year, I sent to them a Pentax camera with clear problems - I needed a basic camera cleaning, in addition to the stuck actuator. One lens had a focus issue, and the other had a stuck Polarizer on the lip. They received it, and then did nothing, and sent it back. Took the money though. I'm not joking - that was ~500 dollars flushed down the toilet. I wish I disputed it with the CC at the time. I love Pentax and have put probably 10,000 dollars (not a lot for a camera system, but a lot for me) into their system with a K100 K20 K5ii and K3ii and 6 lenses, but at this point, my next camera is going to be Canon. Do not give them your business. We brought my camera to BestBuy for repair and they outsourced it for repair to Precision Camera.The only thing wrong with the camera was the battery door wouldn't stay closed. I was hoping to get that fixed,otherwise the camera was in perfect working condition as it was when I bought it. When we were called back to BB to pick it up,they pulled it from the box and unwrapped from the bubble wrap and to my horror it was in pieces.The front plate was ripped off,the screen was split from the casing,wires and circuitry were sticking out.BB was also shocked to see the condition of the camera. Since there was no way to fix it,they "junked" it and refunded me the cost of my camera. BB gave us Precision Cameras number and information and we called them. We reached a customer service rep and asked for a manger and she told us there were none on duty. The customer service rep looked up the order number and said the only notes were to have the battery door fixed and they didn't have the parts to fix it so they sent it back. Clearly their own techs are lying about what they are doing to peoples cameras. The rep went on to deny they wouldn't send out anything like that and then blamed the problem on shipping and when that excuse wouldn't fly she said we should of sent the camera back to them to fix. BB said there was no way to fix the camera based on the condition it was returned in,which is why they gave me money back and "junked" the camera. It seemed the Precision Camera rep was full of excuses and showing this company doesn't want to take accountability to what they do to peoples cameras. We asked for a manager to call us back but we have yet to hear back from them. We are very upset about this and to have our camera destroyed and now trying to replace it is a very stressful situation that I wouldn't have to deal with if we never dealt with these people. read more

I've had three experiences with these guys. First time they replaced the top LCD glass. Came back with a scratch on the inside of the brand new glass. It took over two months to get that done. Second, I sent in a lens for repair. It came back worse each of THREE TIMES! I was finally sent a new lens by the camera manufacturer because Precision wasn't doing a thing.Was without my lens for several months. Third time I sent in a burned out flash. It came back functional and just under two months. Except it is missing the diffuser/catchlight panels. I won't even send it back. Who know how many months it might take, and whether it will come back in working order. I have several items waiting for repair. They are probably 50-70% functional and I'd rather have that, than to have Precision touch them. read more

I purchased a Sony 85gm lens , it started making a high pitch noise when focusing so I contacted Sony sent it in to precision camera , besides Sony making me pay for shipping seem like the service was pretty good from precision and Sony, got my lens back it seemed to work ok didn't use it much until , I had a few jobs , lens started saying cannot recognized lens make sure it is properly attached , I tried it on my A7SII and a6300 same results and all my other lenses work perfect. I'm very upset that I Have to send my lens in again , I can't blame only precision camera I also blame Sony for selling such a expensive lens that obviously is built like shit , when it works it produces amazing images but when you spend 2 grand you don't want to deal with this kind of shit , and when you send your lens in for repair you don't want to have to send it in again or try to use it after it's been repaired on a wedding shoot and realize it doesn't work at all , now I'm sending it on for a 2nd time and I'm out do a lens , wish they could of tested and repaired the lens to full working order the first time read more

Have had my cameras, lenses and flashes fixed for years at Precision, but my last lens they scratched the front element and had to give me my purchase price, which missed the replacement cost by $500, then because they were SONY's service provider I sent a flash for a call back repair and they lost my flash for weeks and finally sent me one with a different serial number that has never worked right since, now I sent a camera again because it was SONY's service provider and they quoted $290 on the web, went up to $390, then when I asked it they could replace a grip, up to $550. So now I am asking them to forget the grip, which I have found at SONY's parts provider for $220 they are telling me it is not a significant price part and will not effect the price of the repair. This place has gone from golden to a cesspool in the 20 years I've dealt with them Zero stars is what they deserve. read more

I see this firm has horrible reviews. Of course, people who are satisfied are less likely to post reviews. I decided to take the time to honestly express my satisfaction with a recent warranty repair. I purchased a SONY Cybershot DSC-HX80 camera and went on a trip to Peru. Near the end of the trip, a fuzzy black area started to show in the lower left of the photos. I knew it was dirt, but I couldn't see how to get at the sensor to clean it. Upon our return home, I called SONY, and found that this is the only authorized warranty repair in the US. I arranged to send it in and they sent it back with the problem repaired. There was no cost, and even shipping to and from them was covered. Now I'm wondering whether this camera will again develop this problem. It would be expensive to fix it, and irksome to lose the use of the camera during the repair process. This would not be an issue with the repair service, however. I understand that it costs money to have people trained to do precision tasks like this. In the mass robotic production era, prices of new things keep going down, but the cost of repairs goes up. Fortunately, cameras really are pretty reliable products, if you don't drop them. read more

Horrible experience with Precision Camera (PC) and San Jose Camera in Campbell were I bought the lens. I strongly recommend do not use PC or San Jose Camera for repairs. I Sent a Sony FE 1.4 /85 GM lens for repair through San Jose Camera and during the process tried calling PC to get feed back as to the problem without success. They just don't answer the telephone. Subsequently I left a message and did not get an answer until 2 weeks later and because I had used San Jose Camera they would not release any information even though I had all the pertinent information like order number lens characteristics etc. I then tried with San Jose Camera and they did not have any information either except the problem with the lens I had told them initially that was related to the focus mechanism. When I finally got some information which was only the cost of repair with no description neither from PC or San Jose Camera. The repair cost was outrageous so decided that due to the serious service issues from both PC and San Jose Camera to cancel the repair. I will find somewhere else. Terrible customer service is the norm here. I have written to the company's e-mail address to get updates on my camera for weeks. No one has ever responded. I've called at least a dozen times, and only once has anyone answered the phone. That person said someone else would be in touch with an update on my camera, and then I never heard another word. Every time I tried to call after that, the voice mail box was full, I got transferred to a busy signal, or I got transferred to someone's cell phone and then the line went dead. I started this camera repair process a month ago and I still haven't heard a thing about what has become of my camera. Who knows where it is today. Precision Camera isn't telling. Sony uses Precision Camera as its official repair partner. My experience with Precision Camera has been so bad I will never buy a Sony again. If I were to request another repair, who knows whether I'd ever see my camera again. read more

Just awful customer service! My coolpix camera had the battery door not stay closed. I went to the Nikon USA website, filled out estimate form, it said send to Precision Camera, but no estimate could be provided. i sent it off tracked and called several days later. Terse woman on the telephone said it would be $99 just to look at the camera, then labor and parts extra. I told her i never would have sent it in given that. Why was it not on the website. She snidely said there are problems with the website. To get my camera back would cost another $7.99 . Save yourself money and find another place for repairs. read more

Due to the use of an extension tube set that was faulty, I had camera issues. By the process of elimination, I assumed the lens was at fault (had just the one lens to try so tried the camera without the lens and it seemed that the lens was the issue). I sent the lens off and after three weeks and $174.50 it was back. Mounted it on the camera and no proper operation, so I assumed that BOTH the lens and camera needed repair so sent the camera in. After three weeks and $204.50, the camera came back. Mounted the just repaired lens and it STILL didn't work. Boxed up both and sent in with note about paying to repair both and neither worked as a unit. three more weeks, and while I did get both back and so far, they appear to work, they said they updated the firmware, but it hadn't been, and they claimed to have replaced the AF Board, which would have been replaced with the previous repair, so I now have no idea which repair was needed and which was just done because the equipment was already there. Had done the Contact Us three separate times on the web site, and never heard back. The Repair Status did work both times so I at least knew it was received. Would not recommend them. read more

If I could do 0 stars I would. I'm a professional photographer and use Sony system exclusively. Sony contracted with Precision Camera to do their pro level service and support. Shame on Sony for picking such an inept, incompetent company. For the second time, I sent cameras in for a simple cleaning. Just clean the cameras. I specifically wrote in my orders, DO NOT RESET THE CAMERA SETTINGS. What do they do? You guessed it. They reset both of my cameras to factory defaults when there was absolutely no reason to do so. The downside is it causes me to have to go in and reset every single menu page settings. With one camera, it caused me to have to download and reinstall several in camera "apps", which of course is rather difficult on a camera. The woman running interference for Sony Pro Support, Kristie, she's quite nice but she is powerless to do anything. Sony's support is AWFUL. Precision Camera's service is AWFUL. I have called and written Precision Camera, Mr. David Marsh, VP of Sales and Marketing, several times, and he never cared to return my calls or emails. STAY AWAY from Precision Camera at all costs. I am going to give you a subjective vantage of my experience as a SONY user (contracted by Sony and used my warranty). As you may have already read about on various threads, the Sony a7iii has faulty mic jack issues. I had heard about it prior to mine crapping out, but never thought it would happen to me. Well, it did. After contacting Sony customer support, they issued a work order through precision camera in Connecticut. Well, im in California and my a7iii is my child. I love it as such. Needless to say, sending it off wasn't exactly ideal. I make youtube content as a form of income and sending it out for an indeterminate amount of time was uneasy to say the least. I sent it out March 5th and it was finished and on it's way back March 12th. Exactly 1 week and it's already on its way back to me. I went ahead and called for further detail and the woman on the phone was pleasant and very kind. She gave me a break down of what was done to my Sony A7iii. They made sure all circuits and boards were properly intact and yes the entire my mic unit was replaced (thanks sony -___-). They also gave the camera a full cleaning, which i thought was really nice. read more

After 4 attempts at having the water seals replaced on my Nikon Cool-pics (the only reason I sent it in, and required in the owner's manual to maintain water tightness) and getting the camera back with the EXACT same boilerplate message on the repair ticket saying "cleaned camera, updated firmware, returned to factory specs" etc, I finally had to hound a manager to provide me an email document saying they did replace the battery door and water seal. Then, 2 months later, after using the camera in the pool for the first time... water inside the housing. Now they will not return my calls or emails for redress. 5 calls and 2 emails within 1 week with nothing back from them. read more

Sent Sony lens in for repair under warranty. I shipped it regular mail November 1st and they received November 4th. They shipped it back to me November 10th and I just received it November 11th (TODAY!) in the mail and looks just like new. Very happy!! read more

Maybe my experience is an anomaly, but I had no issues with using Precision Camera. The kit lens on my Sony A6000 wouldn't focus and I kept getting an error message saying "cannot recognize lens". I contacted Sony about the issue and they gave me the information to send it into Precision Camera since it was still under warranty. I sent it off and had it back in a little over a week. I didn't get any direct emails from Precision Camera regarding the status, but I was able to look it up on their site using the work order number Sony gave me. I can't say anything regarding the price since it was fixed under warranty, but i'm very happy to have my lens fixed quickly with no issues! read more

This company may be the oldest camera repair in the U.S. and they claim fastest turn around times and customer service but I am having the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER! Their left hand does NOT know what the right hand is doing! And SONY is included in this epic FAIL also! Approx. 7k worth of equip received by them on Jan. 13th VIA SONY HAWAII. (2 cameras and a SSG lens). Sony didn't indicate "EVENT" #s on the repair sheets sent in with gear and rather than being proactive and calling SONY they let the gear sit! I have literally (and this is NO exaggeration) call multiple times EVERY DAY for a month to be constantly bounced between Customer Service (if you can call it that) and TECH. SUPPORT, to SONY CUSTOMER SEVICE (IF you can call it that) and SONY TECH SUPPORT to the SONY Warranty Dept. Irony is that there was an Extended Warranty Contract in place sent in with the equipment but for some reason Precision Camera took three weeks and wouldn't accept SONY WARRANTY DEPT. calling them to confirm the contract and approve the warranty work. I have spent literally days on the phone with this company having to jump through hoops to get anything done. SONY HAWAII originally quoted us a 2 week turn around and the people at Precision Camera AND SONY HAWAII give plenty of excuses and lip service but fall short on performance and execution. Precision Camera simply WILL NOT CALL you back regardless how many times they tell you they will. After dozens of phone calls, numerous faxes and emails finally it appears all the red tape is overcome BUT now NO ETA on repair and return of gear and we are ONE MONTH OUT form receipt by Precision. IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS COMPANY I WOULD SUGGEST TO GO ELSEWHERE. SONY IS A TOTAL FAIL! And to top things off, they don't keep parts in stock and have to order from SONY? 2 companies this large with huge resources one would think would be better equipped to service their customers! I am a professional photographer and I shipped in my camera for repair with all the documentation, received the confirmation email and everything. 17 days later I decide to call and see what the delay was all about only to find out they have not even started working on my camera because my invoice didn't have the year on it. No one contacted me about missing information, they just let my camera sit there and did nothing. I have never seen such unprofessionalism from a company especially when they are dealing with other people's jobs. I try to support smaller and/or local businesses whenever possible, and decided to send my Canon G9 camera to this company because they're (supposedly) located in CT. It was a big mistake: According to their website, they offer fast turnarounds and great service. I did not find this to be accurate. Firstly, the camera was not trackable on their system for approximately 1 week after they received it. I subsequently found out they had reshipped the camera to their facility in Texas for repair. After spending a few weeks without any status updates, I called a few times (they never have someone available on their online customer service chat). Sometimes they return calls. Sometimes they do not. But keep on calling - they'll eventually get back to you. I was told they were waiting for parts from Canon and needed 10 business days for that to happen. So I waited. After another 2 weeks I called again, and they said the repair was in progress. Eventually after a month I called and asked them to ship the broken camera back to me. The packing slip said that the parts were no longer available for my Canon G9. I called Canon and they said it should not be a problem... I sent the camera to Canon and it was repaired in 10 days (door to door). I cannot understand why Precision Camera did not repair the camera - all it needed was a lens assembly that was readily available from Canon. read more

Worst experience ever. Instead of fixing my lens they have broken it even more. Couple months after buying 70-200mm f2.8 GM lens I've discovered that it does not produce sharp photos at infinity in range of circa 70-100mm. Autofocus or manual focus, it doesn't matter. The point of being in focus was not int he range of the lens. Until then I was shooting mostly portraits and other short to mid distance subjects. I've called Sony customer support, filed the case, shipped the lens, waited, waited, waited... until I've got an email asking for the opinion about the quality of service. My first thought. What repair? Where is my lens? After couple calls and some digging, it turns out they've sent it back to wrong address. Luckily they have only messed up apartment number and the package was sitting in the lobby, waiting to be picked up for almost two weeks, package in perfect conditions. Already unhappy about the experience I've pulled out the lens and a few days later I took it for a test shoot. Some birds and stuff. And guess what. Now the lens does not produce sharp photos at full range, 70 to 200mm. The point of focus is not in range at all. I've made few artificial tests at home taking pictures of books at various focal lengths and apertures, using autofocus and focusing manually, lens attached to a tripod, shooting with a remote trigger. The autofocus locks but pictures are still blurry and smugged. A 2mm lettering is smugged by 4mm. Manual focus does not get any sharper than autofocus. Precision Camera literally has sent back the lens in a much, much worst condition than they have received it. If you can, avoid Precision Camera. read more

Very poor experience with Precision so far. I had a very minor issue with my Sony 200-600 lens ... it was missing two of the four tiny screws that secure the tripod mounting plate to the lens body, and the plate loosened. I called Sony and asked them to send me the two screws, but they insisted I send the kens to Precision for warranty repair. They provided a return shipping label, and Precision did, in fact, quickly replace the two screws and returned my lens. They problem was that, when received, the lens could no longer be mounted on my camera. They somehow managed to damage the mount, so the lens went back yet again. They still, after several weeks, have my lens. They put on a new mount, but now can't calibrate the lens. I have been in touch with one of their customer service reps, who has been very apologetic, but can't seem to get anything done. I have called Sony, and all they've done is ask Precision to expedite the repair. Requests for a replacement lens have been denied. Today is May 6th, and they have had my lens since March 24th. Now, they say it will be ready by May 7th. Regardless, this is without any question the worst service experience I have ever had. All this because Sony would not ship me the two screws that were missing from that tripod plate. I am Just totally disgusted at this point. read more

Sent a Ricoh GR to get the sensor cleaned (for the not uncommon dust spots). Precision Camera is Ricoh's official service center in US. Process was simple, camera came back reasonably quickly (a week or two maybe?), and both the sensor and the lens unit were replaced (free under warranty). Lens mechanism sounds better than new. They plain did a great job for me. read more

I have had my RX100 IV fixed twice by Precision Camera. First time was a warranty issue regarding the battery clip, and then this month I tripped and fell and broke up my display screen and mounting. Arrrg! I sent the camera and they had it fixed in one week from time of arrival. It came back looking like new with the latest firmware installed, which had just been released. I did call them once when I saw that the process screen show a Delay. I phoned, got through quickly, and was told that they needed a credit card number. I have had two very good experiences with Precision Camera, so I am not sure why they have some poor reviews. read more
