I guess I should have read more reviews about this place before I brought my truck in... You know you're in trouble when you pick your vehicle up and the guy at the counter asks you after he collects your money "you know your check engine light is on right?" "Not when I brought it in" I said and was told that that's not their problem. They had done a diagnostic when I dropped the truck off and there's no mention of a check engine light. I brought it back in and they found that my glow plugs went out. "That happens all the time and we won't fix it for you unless you pay us" is what their mechanic Josh actually told me. Well it happened in their shop but I suspect it does happen quite a bit in there. So to sum it up be prepared to get your vehicle back in worse shape than when you brought it in and that you'll have to foot the bill for it. read more

I had the absolute worst repair experience of my life with this shop, which surprised me because I took my car here a few years ago and everything went fine. But this time, the owner Steve was rude, unprofessional, and misleading, and our car left with a new issue that they caused and refused to fix and is now having the same problem that we took it in for less than 6 months later. Our car was having issues starting and lights on the dashboard were out like the speedometer and gas gauge. When we brought it in, Steve kept getting our car confused with other cars and originally quoted us the wrong work. Then he called back and said they had the wrong car, quoted us for new alternator and battery. We asked about the dashboard lights to get the full quote and he impatiently said they couldn't even look at that yet. He refused to talk about it, said he needed to do the other work, which didn't seem true but we decided to go ahead with the other work since it was already there. He called after the initial repairs and said they noticed the dashboard lights were out, like that was something new. And that their electrical guy was out of town for 2 weeks. I asked why they never told us that upfront, we could have waited to bring it in, and he claimed we'd never mentioned the issue! I mentioned it in detail when I scheduled the appointment and me and my partner had brought it up several times since, every time we talked to him, including a few hours ago that same day. It was confusing and sort of scary. I couldn't tell if he truly forgot, which seemed impossible, or was being intentionally manipulative. He suggested we drive the car home and bring it back in a couple weeks for the other repair. When I said it was dangerous and illegal to drive without the speedometer or gas gauge readable, he said it was "only a mile" so it was fine. He essentially advised us to break the law and risk our safety. We said to just keep it there until they could do the repair. They had our car for almost A MONTH waiting for the electrical guy then having it seen at an electrical shop because they couldn't figure out how to fix it. When the repairs were finally done, he called and said, "It's fine if the new odometer reading is 30,000 miles higher than the old one, right?" What?? Apparently replacing that part with a used one changed the reading and there's a way to fix it but he refused and said we'd need to do that elsewhere. We were given no warning that it would happen prior to the repair and we complained but he wouldn't make it right. Any time I tried to communicate my concerns about what was going on, Steve was downright mean and condescending. They gave our car a new issue and refused to fix it. It has an incorrect odometer reading that will cost extra money and time to fix. We were able to successfully dispute the charge for the dashboard repairs as it was clear the shop was in the wrong, but that doesn't fix the problem. And to top it off, less than six months later, the car is having starting problems again and one of the dash lights is out, so whatever they did didn't fix the underlying issue. Horrible repair shop, horrible experience. The whole thing was so stressful and upsetting and a waste of A LOT of money. This place really took advantage of my 83 yr old father. He took his F-150 in to have a new clutch installed, his was starting to slip. My Father was an owner operator for many years and did all the maintenance on his semi trucks and his personal vehicles all his life, including clutch replacements. He knows his stuff about vehicle repairs. Precision diagnosed the problem, replaced his clutch and also told him he needed a new fly-wheel so, he had them replace that as well. It cost him about $1900.00 for the work. He picked his F-150 up from Precision and after a few weeks (he doesn't drive much) felt the clutch slipping when taking off forward and the truck would hop a little when backing up. He took it back to Precision and had them drive it. They were, unprofessional, condescending, and took no responsibility for the faulty clutch install and told him the problem is probably a broken motor mount and want to charge him for the additional work! Precision needs to step up and make their clutch repair right. My father paid $1900.00 for this service work to be done. If Precision doesn't do that then they are nothing but crooks that like to prey on the elderly! read more

Honest, reliable, timely. My car's transmission light came on after some body work. They ran the error codes and lifted my car to look underneath. Found that a sensor was not plugged in! The body shop must've unplugged it. Rather than telling me that I need a new transmission or something else my car didn't need, they just fixed the actual problem. This all took about an hour and a half. Half the time I've spent at the ford dealership for oil changes previously. Honestly makes for a great shop. Friendly service makes for an even better shop. I'll bring my car here for everything on the future! read more

just called to see about the timeline to get my Durango looked at for a power steering pump and Steve decided to interrupt me and tell me he has no way of of knowing what could be wrong since he cut me off as i was saying "what am i looking at for timeline to get it into the shop" when i tried to correct him and and say "timeline to get it in" he argued with me and said you didn't say that.. yup i did but you didn't hear it because your were too busy talking over me.. do better steve! finding a different shop. read more

I had the pleasure of having the team at Precision Automotive and Transmission work on my 1997 GMC truck. I need the air conditioner charged up after fixing a small leak in the system. They took the truck in and worked it in to their busy schedule. The end realist was a nice cold air conditioner and a report of no leaks found. They are friendly, and accommodating. We were skeptical so on a friend's recommendation, we went to Precision Automotive on 6th Ave. We worked with Steve, who went through what the car needed (and didn't need) and explained it in a way that all made sense. After hitting a speedbump or pothole a leak was noted under the front end of our car. The folks at Precision were able to look at it the next day, diagnosed and repaired the very strange problem that had occurred and had it back to us in no time. (With a full explanation of the problem and reasonable cost.) We have only been in Tacoma for 5 years and have used Precision for all of our automotive needs. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. My family and I have been using Precision for most of our car repairs and maintenance for 6 or 7 years now. They always are professional, courteous, communicative and timely. They will give a ride if you need it when you drop off your car. They're not always the least expensive, but they always have done good work for me. Some mechanics I formerly used (mostly out of business now) tended to have lower prices, but also tended not to actually fix the problem, and it would end up costing more in the long run. :shrug: My only complaint is that they take weekends off, so I can't drop off a car Friday night and have it fixed by Monday morning. (But actually, I highly applaud the civilized and vanishing custom of the "weekend" -- most Americans should have more days off.) read more

I value Precision's transparency and honesty. I have brought my Buick in multiple times and they always get the job done quickly and with plenty of courtesy, which is somewhat rare to get from a mechanic as a young woman. I feel respected by the staff at Precision. Recently my car had transmission problems and wouldn't shift into drive, so I was going to have AAA tow it to Precision. I called to let them know, but soon after Steve called me back and said he noticed in their records from the last time I went in that they'd have to take out the transmission and do major work on it. His price estimate ended up not being worth the cost of the old car so I junked it, but I appreciate that he was honest about the work and price and went out of his way to call me back and warn me, even though it meant losing business. Once I get another car, I know I'll take it to Precision for any issues. read more

My check engine light came on - seriously mere days after my 5 year warranty expired! The dealership wouldn't even look at my car for 4 weeks. Precision looked at my car the same day and completed the repairs the very next day allowing me to drive my car to Oregon feeling safe. They were so kind and in my opinion reasonably priced. I've taken my car in multiple times to get repairs done (a new oxygen sensor and a new serpentine belt). Both times I was either slightly over harsher or charged to the highest possible quote available online. However, they provided great and timely service. They offered to give me a ride after dropping my car off and their customer service is great. Although I didn't like paying a little bit more, I did like how they treated me and I think that goes a long way when you're dealing with mechanics. read more

Have taken my Chevy van in to these folks 3 or 4 times for repairs both large and small. They have always correctly diagnosed the problem, given me a firm estimate and finished the work in a timely manner. Once loaning me a car to go to an appointment while they were fixing mine. Today I dropped by while my husband was at a nearby barbershop to see when they could fix a brake light and a turn signal. They directed me to a bay and quickly replaced 3 light bulbs and sent me happily on my way with no charge. Needless to say, I will continue to use them for my car repairs! read more

I brought my classic car to this shop because it keeps stalling I was told that the plugs, points, some timing adjustment and dirty filter was the cause of my problem so they did a tune-up$700+, a couple days later I was still having the same problem, I brought the vehicle back they replaced the fuel boost pump $500+, a couple weeks later the vehicle stalls and die again......I'm not taking it back there, these guys obviously think I have money to throw away, likeable people but unreliable, expensive and incompetent read more

When my vehicle failed to pass the emissions testing (the check engine light was on) I took it to Precision Automotive to find the problem and have it repaired. They said they would try and diagnose and fix the problem but I could also get a waiver if repairs were going to be more than $150. They called me later and said that repairs were going to be well over $150 and they had done what they could for that amount (the check engine light was still on). I was given the waiver paperwork after I paid my $150, took my vehicle to the inspection station and the test was waived even though it still wouldn't pass inspection. At this point I decided I'd try and find out why the light was on and see what else I could do. I took the vehicle to Auto Zone upon hearing that they will diagnose check engine lights for free. They told me the problem was one of the oxygen sensors, told me where they were and that I could probably replace them myself. I took the vehicle home, crawled underneath, and found the wire to the front sensor was completely unplugged. This was all the problem was....an easy fix if Precision Automotive had even bothered to lift the car up and take a look underneath. I plugged it back in, the check engine light went out and it's been running perfectly ever since. I'm out $150 but a little wiser now and will never return to Precision Automotive. At this point I wouldn't trust them to put air in the tires much less actually diagnose and fix a major problem. I had been going there for years, but all it takes is getting cheated once and now they've lost a customer for good. read more

I had a specific problem with my car, paid to have diagnostics run prior to coming in. Went to multiple places to get quotes but this place seemed nice and they could get it done in one day. I get a call saying they found a leak on a part that could go at any moment. After asking for more details, the mechanic said it wasn't currently leaking but when they move it, it leaks. I asked if it was on top of the engine as I would have liked to fix it myself. The mechanic replied that I have to remove the part that originally needed fixing in order to reach this part. I trusted what he said and okayed the additional cost. I ended up calling my mechanic friend and finding out it was an easy fix and what they said was a lie (it is on top of the engine) I called back 15 minutes later to cancel the repair. He said it was already done and that he would give me a discount ($130 originally, $96 discounted). I went in to pick up the vehicle and asked to see the faulty part. The mechanic left to retrieve it and returned saying they are looking for it. I went outside to wait and saw his colleague messing around with the part in the alley. The original mechanic I spoke to left to "help" his buddy get the part. He brought it over and showed me where the "small leak" was, which was complete sheared off. The part is not easy to break (I tried another section of it) yet his excuse was that they pulled a hose off and it broke. read more

Think twice before taking your vehicle's to this shop for repairs. Repairs are done correctly but they will most definitely sell you work that is not needed to your vehicle. The elderly is who the owner takes advantage of. I know from personal experiences! Might be time for labor and board too take a little closer look at his actions. read more

I had a terrible experience at Precision. I needed to have a coil replaced and the total bill was over $350. I looked into the repair after I payed and the part was $110. Upon further investigation, I discovered that replacing the part is as simple as unscrewing a few screws and popping open a valve. I felt very taken advantage of by the Precision team and will never return. read more

Could not be happier with the service from these guys. Three cars broke in a month. All three were up and running with a minimum of BS and a maximum of efficency. Always found my problem and fixed me up without a bunch of techno speak and a minimum of cost. Will go back in a heartbeat. read more
