4/18/2015 Piss-Poor Customer Service. I purchased the Groupon, for an Oil Change. When I called to make the appointment I was told because of my car, it does not qualify for the Groupon, but that I could pay the difference price for full synthetic oil. Now this sounds like a bait and switch to me, advertise one thing without specifics and then switch them to another price. Groupon (Dinesh) has been extremely slow in handling this issue, either because of this business, or a Groupon process issue. Either way DO NOT PURCHASE a Groupon for this company if your car requires full synthetic. I called to make sure these guys were certified to work with Mini Coopers before making an appointment to have an oil change. I left my Mini with Amal who later had to phone me to ask how to start the car, which didn't inspire much confidence. He warned me that they would charge an additional $30 to use premium oil. When I enquired about why premium oil was $30 extra he became very defensive and walked away. He then refused to do any further work on my car in the future because he never wanted to see me again. He then threatened me with his God, who, presumably, will punish me any moment now for being curious about the cost of oil. Good luck, God speed! read more

This shop is way overpriced. My toyota suddenly turned off on freeway so I called AAA to tow my car. I chose this shop as once I changed my oil there and I had their address. It turned out that the only problem of my car was that the battery terminal was loosen. They tightened it for me and my car worked again. Guess how much did they charge me for this simple fix? $95!!!!! 95 dollars for this 5-min work! I argued with their staff and they basically told me "I know this is a little unreasonable but that's what we charged for every diagnosis". I paid $95 but I would never go back again. read more

This place saves my life. They are open almost every day and are very flexible with their hours. I have never felt remotely over-charged, and almost always come out having saved some of what I had budgeted for brakes or repairs, etc. Also located near stuff to do, so it's your're dropping your car off, there is plenty to bike/walk to and from. Honest, speedy service, don't bother trying to get anything like it anywhere else in the area. read more

My car is nearly 10 years old and so any mechanic can tell me that something is falling apart and I would believe it. I'm sure mechanics know that about us, too. That's why it is common for us to not really trust mechanics. HOWEVER, after my oil change and a 27-point inspection, I got the great news that my car is in tip top shape. It took about 45 mins and they were able to take appointments and honor the price that is listed on Groupon (which is actually their same price). FYI, Groupon takes a cut, so I would go directly through Precision to support a local business 100%. While you're waiting, stop by some other local shops like Clean360 to check out their soap factory and learn about the incredible work they are doing in our community. Why -1 star? It's just not appealing. It's a mess of cars just to get in and the waiting room is kinda ehh... but that's pretty standard in the industry, isn't it? read more

My interaction with the owner, Greg, was clear, direct, and best of all, honest. I needed the fuel pump in my 13 y.o. truck replaced and was quoted what I felt was a ridiculous amount by my regular automotive care folks close to home. Thinking I should do my due diligence, I talked to a friend who is a total gear-head and he gave me the full breakdown (ha!) on what goes into a fuel pump - he said it shouldn't cost more than $600 to get my car fixed - the original quote was $1,180 (!). Precision was recommended by my personal trainer and she was right-on. He answered all my questions and they tracked with what my friend had just explained to me. AAA towed my truck to Precision mid-morning on Friday and I picked it up Saturday morning at 9:30AM. Greg called me Friday evening to let me know it was ready for pick-up and confirmed the original quote provided to me via phone earlier that day - total cost $616. It's about a week later and my truck is running great - Thank you, Greg. I echo the other reviews - fast, efficient, and effective car repair. read more

Took my car for an oil change in January, had a snowboarding accident and my car was sitting for several months. Fast forward to today, 4000 miles later in at another oil change place simply because of proximity to my home, and as they took my car apart for my oil change they discovered that no filter had been put in the canister. I'd been driving around for 4000 miles over six months with no oil filter! I called and spoke with an employee there I even put him on the phone with the man doing my oil change and he didn't believe either one of us he actually had the nerve to hang up on me when I told him I'd like a manager to call me. I will never go to this place and I will tell all my friends not to go either. read more

Took my Chevy here a number of time, owner, when you talk to him, seems to knows his stuff,and he is a very nice guy, however there are problems While Greg is cheaper than the dealer his labor rate is high and he works VERY SLOW, so you pay a lot to have your work done here. Had my oil seals and sensor replaced, never got the job right, the low oil sensor kept going off. Took it back problem stopped for a day, (mind you when I was told a job would be a couple of hours, it would really be a whole day) So coming back multiple times for the same problem is a lot of down time. When I went back because it still was not right after two times I was told "we can't just keep throwing parts at it" Here is the kicker - when I took it in for the seals, it was because I had an oil leak I could see because of drips on the ground, there sensor never went off until Greg worked on the car, so I had to pay to replace something I never had a problem with. Another problem is on one of my later visits (there for an inspection to sell the car) I was told there was another leak I had to repair, this one was in a very hard to reach place so it was going to be VERY EXPENSIVE to repair, during this visit Greg told me he had told me about this before, he NEVER had and now I had a possible buyer hearing about it the first time I was hearing about it. Luckily the buyer really wanted the car, knew Greg's labor rate was excessive and agreed to buy the car for a little less so he could take it to his own guy for repair. Be very clear about the total cost for the work and check the bill for errors. Be suspicious of "free" services. The estimate was $20 but totaled $341 on the bill. When I protested, the bill was reduced to $224. Looking back I don't think I even needed the work done! I do not recommend this place and won't go there again. These are my go-to guys to keep my 2000 Buick on the road. North Oakland and Berkeley are full of foreign car "specialists", and it took a while to find someone who would even look at a GM product. When I discovered Precision back in 2013, Gregg and Danny were the answer to my car problems. Gregg was the owner/manager at the time and he was a Bodhisattva among mechanics, but sadly he has since passed away. But now Danny is still there, with the new manager Mohammad, who has been friendly and helpful. I brought the car in recently because it was pulling to the right. They checked it out and said it probably needed an alignment which they don't do there. I decided to take it up the street to Firestone on Broadway. Mohammad said that if Firestone diagnosed any front end work I could bring it back and have it done at Precision, probably at a better price. I usually avoid chains like Firestone for mechanical work beyond tires and brakes, because you don't really know who's doing the work. As expected, they said I needed tie rod ends and a hub bearing. OK, I was in a hurry and didn't want to take another day going back to Precision. I said OK. Turns out that getting things done fast is less important than getting them done right. A month later I noticed my power steering getting heavy and tight. Uh Oh. Maybe it needed power steering fluid. But why would that be? I had sprung for for a rack and pinion job less than three years previously and there should be no leaks. I took it over to Precision. Danny put it up on the rack and observed that somebody else had been working on the vehicle. It took me awhile to dredge up the memory of the work Firestone had done. When I did, Mohammad put the information into a shop program called Itentifix, which found that the same repair on my make and model could crack the rack and pinion! And guess what, my R&P was cracked and leaking. The kicker was that the hub bearing had not been installed correctly, leaving the ABS sensor hanging by a wire instead of being snapped into place. All this was extremely upsetting. Mohammad gave me a printout of the Identifix report and an estimate of what it would cost to fix everything, all for no charge. After I showed Firestone the information, they did the right thing and fixed everything for free. I doubt that it would have been so easy without Mohammad's help. read more

This place is simply amazing. I figured I needed to get my alternator replaced, so I called up several auto repair places to get some quotes. Some places either whipped out a quick estimate that had me doubting their calculations. Others didn't even pick up the phone or get back to me. The better places quoted the price for one alternator and their labor. I'm sure they are all great places, but I didn't feel informed of what they were doing. This was the ONLY place that took the time to explain to me my options (there were two different alternators available, but they costed different amounts) and breakdown my cost. They were also very, very cautious in giving me my price, explaining that they would (obviously) need to check my car--there might have been another problem. Plus, their lower quote (with the cheaper alternator) was the cheapest quote I got. Their higher quote was still very competitive--only 20 dollars more than their cheaper quote. Ultimately, my friend did some crazy quick ex-automechanic magic to my car and I didn't end up taking my car in. However, based on my experience, I will definitely take my car in here whenever I have any trouble in the future. read more

When I got off work on 40th street in Oakland on Sat 1/30 at 1 pm and went to start my car it ran, but was shaking and the service light was on. I live in Walnut Creek and I was nervous to drive the car on the highway. I drove the car to Precision Automotive Services to see if they would be willing to look at the car and see if it was safe for me to get on the highway. Muhammad came out and examined the car, he spent at least 10 minutes with some kind of machine(a scanner I believe) . He told me it was safe to drive home, but that the car needed to go to be seen by my mechanic as soon as possible. I offered to pay for his time which he said was not needed. The shaking reduced and I drove the car to my mechanic in Walnut Cree. I was very appreciative for the time and peace of mind I received. Thank you Muhammad ;-) read more

Nightmare! I wish I read the reviews first. Oh well hind sight is 20-20. Here goes. I have an old car, well not that old. It has its quirks. I found out about Gregg from OReilly's down the street when I asked for an "honest" mechanic. I had my car towed to his place after thanksgiving, that Monday to be exact. I didn't have a clue what was wrong with the car, I really needed his help. That Tuesday he called and said it was the Idle and that the cost would be $$$$. I said whoa, let's try to get it down a bit. He said well you need to get the Nissan part it's under warranty, I said no, I'll got get the part. I went and got it, gave it to him. He told me that it would take a short time to put that part in so I went home happy that I would have my car back. Two weeks later, after refusing to pay an enormous bill because he works extremely slow, I guess. He stopped working on the car, but kept telliing me he was. I finally had to just go get the car and have it towed to a reliable person who quoted me several hundred dollars less than Gregg. Yes he is friendly and talkative but its a snake like quality while he is talking he's thinking of a million ways to get your cash. After dropping my car off at the nearby Toyota dealership, I stopped by Precision to ask for an estimate. Greg, the owner, called up his parts guy on the spot and gave me a rough estimate of 1/3 the one I received at the dealership. He was able to secure the parts and do the work that afternoon, whereas Toyota wanted my car overnight. I promptly retrieved my car from Toyota and delivered it down the street to Precision. Greg and his mechanic replaced the rotors and brakes in 45 minutes flat. Great service at an unbeatable price. read more

Arrived on time and waited in line of people renting U-Haul equipment and was finally told the mechanic usually comes in at 9:00. Came in at 9:00 and approached the mechanic, who was dressed for work, and he said he was going to a wedding. I said I had an appointment and he repeated, "Not today. I'm going to a wedding!" This place pulled a bait-and-switch on me. I bought a Groupon to get an oil change, booked the service and presented the coupon when I got there, and they accepted it. I walked around the corner while they performed the service. I then got a call telling me the Groupon didn't cover the type of oil change my car required. I protested and said I would go elsewhere, but they'd already drained the oil from my car, leaving me with no choice but to pay the additional $50 they demanded. Not only did they not accept the Groupon to cover payment for the promised service, they only credited me the amount I paid for the Groupon rather than giving me the full credit for the value of the Groupon service I had purchased. So I got no value out of the Groupon, which they marked as redeemed. read more

Gregg is a friendly, funny and extremely knowledgable gent who did great work on my Toyota Corolla. He handled a nasty starter problem some crappy craigslist mechanic started and left my car in shambles because he didn't know what he was doing. But Gregg cleaned up the mess and had my car running in no time. He also arranged to have my crunched front bumper and fender replaced at an extremely great price. When he told me it would be 75.00 more than he quoted, I was about to protest but I knew it was still a GREAT deal. When I saw my car, I honestly wasn't sure if it was mine. It looked better than the day I bought it. They painted and pin-striped the new parts and cleaned the entire car--inside and out. My only complaint is that Gregg is either lazy about calling people when their car is ready or he does a crappy job of keeping track of his paper work and loses people's information and phone number. You'll have to remember to call him if you want any updates or info' on your car. But the way I see it is, if he had a receptionist to handle those things, his fees wouldn't be as incredibly affordable as they are. So who's complaining? read more

I have never been interested in writing a yelp review until now. Precision Auto used to be a nice place to go with a great mechanic until the owner, Gregg, passed away. The new owner now is rude, very unprofessional and frankly came across as a misogynist. He said I had an "attitude" after I expressed my disappointment in him breaking his verbal commitment to an early morning repair appointment where I would wait in the office while the work was to be done. He arrived a half an hour late, no apology, then said the one hour job (replacement of two shock absorbers) would take all day. He would not confirm when it would be finished. I specifically took off work to make the appointment. The mechanic on site said he could do the job in an hour and was free to do so. I should have known that something was amiss since on the phone the new owner was initially very very rude. I strongly advise not trusting this shop under the new owner. He is a liar, rude, dishonest and appears to have no auto mechanic experience. Ladies especially stay clear!!! read more
