Jorge Perez tried to steal my car. My 2000 911 C4 was towed to his location due to a tow truck driver misunderstanding. (May 22, 2023) I gave Mr. Perez an opportunity to diagnose the car's problems. I spoke with Mr. Perez the following day when he told me the IMS had failed and the engine was blown. (He was not aware that I had I new engine and IMS installed about 30k prior.) I set an appointment to see the car with Mr. Perez the following day. (May 24, 2023) When I arrived, the car was in the lot and no space was available for my inspection. The metal shavings found in the engine oil were claimed to have been found and the engine was seized. Mr. Perez offered no repair estimate but instead Mr. Perez offered by buy the car for $2000. Mr. Perez granted my request to think the offer over. I set a meeting with Mr. Perez for Saturday (May 27,2023) but via text asked if we could move the meeting until Monday. I heard nothing back. I called on May 30 but got the machine. I showed up to his shop on June 1 with a tow truck to take the car to another shop. And Mr. Perez was pissed. So pissed in fact he charged me $1170 in storage fees on top of his $246.67 in "diagnostic" work. He should be avoided. read more

I brought them a Mercedes Sprinter van with numerous sensor and electrical problems, a serious diesel DEF problem that threatened to stop the van from working entirely, brake fluid reservoir problems, smog related issues, and a complicated battery set-up problem. He also did a full service B. His team methodically worked through problem by problem, system by system. The communication was always clear about what was wrong, what was needed to fix it, and all the associated costs. And, when the van came back, even the tires had been properly inflated (!!) and he was sure to tell me about some upcoming brake rotor work that needed to be done. Even though the Sprinter van is huge and cumbersome to work with, taking up a lot of shop space, he never said one negative word about it, he just set-out getting to work on it. TL;DR If 'honest mechanic = unicorn' you'll find one such unicorn at GAM, and he goes by the name of Jorge! Jorge worked on my 2004 BMW 325i twice, the first time it was a radiator / coolant leak, and he was able to resolve all the issues in less than the quoted amount in the estimate. The second time around, I gave him my car for a regular service and a few hours after I drove the car off, my car then broke down on the freeway. Note that my car is about 17 years old with about 150K miles and I am the second owner. Also note, this was running a previously used transmission that I had got installed somewhere else, when the original transmission went out on me at 110K miles. I was certain that my transmission and car were at end of life, and had the car towed to GAM. Jorge was nice enough to take it and have a second look and offered me his car as a loaner for several days. He then went on to find another used transmission, swapped it out and charged me a very reasonable 'labor' fee. Thereby, reviving my car so it is not total junk and saving me the trouble of having to buy a new car without being under pressure. (I owe you bigtime Jorge) It is not often that you find principled people who are willing to pride their reputation and workmanship over the tempting allure of making a quick buck. So, when you do, support these kinds of people and also support local businesses who have come up the hard way and are going through rough times in this very challenging pandemic year! read more

I highly recommend this shop! Their prices are very reasonable and they work fast but are still thorough. I have a Mercedes and have brought my car in several times already. First time, my tire had a flat, Jorge was able to get my tire patched and me out the door in less than half an hour. Second time I had a cracked wheel, called a couple of places including the Mercedes dealership, Jorge offered me the best price and was able to get my part ordered and my car back to me within 1 day. They fixed my 300td wagon, and charged me much less than I was expecting. The problem was complex to begin with, but also involved stripped bolts, since my car is 40 years old and whoever worked on it last had rounded the bolt heads. They removed the problem bolts and installed all new OEM parts the same day.. and replaced brand new stainless steel bolts. I just moved to Oakland, didn't have a mechanic, and my 2005 Mercedes C55 AMG started making an alarming noise as I pulled into the parking lot of Rubenstien Plumbing Supplies (not a lot of services in this part of town). One of the guys recommended I take my car to Jorge/GAM a few blocks away (he also had an AMG). I lucked out; turned out my car broke down at the right time and place. Very, very satisfied. Called Friday asking when I could book appointment to replace a conductor plate in automatic gearbox of my Mercedes Benz. Was very surprised when I was told I could come on Tuesday in 4 days, while all other service centers provided 2-3 weeks away appointments. When I came, car was serviced within this same day, and while the work is around 2 hours, I was asked if I need it done right away, or within a day would be fine with me. Later, when I came to pick up the car, I was charged very decently, and since I brought my own parts for the job, I am very satisfied with the pricing too. Now car is running great, no problems, passed smog, everything was very positive since my visit. I took my Sprinter van to this shop to resolve lack of speed when going uphill. Jorge told me my turbo is fine but he thinks it's the actuator is bad and wanted permission to remove the turbo at cost $2k plus parts. When the work is completed I test drove to Auburn. To my dismay I still have the same issue. I called Jorge to let him know it's still not working correctly and at this point I wanted to go directly to the MB dealer. Why throw away money, should be fixed the first time. Driving to the dealer the check engine light turned on and the rpm was at 9 when idling. The dealer found a missing screw and charge air tube misaligned. See picture what the dealer found. Now the service dept said I need a new Turbo and catalytic converter. Today I spoke to Jorge about the sloppy work done to my van. He was nice but basically said I didn't need the turbo or catalytic converter replaced and that I didn't give him a chance to resolve issue after test drive. I have learned an expensive lesson. On each occasion I have been treated as a family friend, with courtesy & respect.
