I am really pleased with my experience at German Auto Master. I have a mini cooper, and have received service on this car at two other speciality mechanics in Oakland. One overcharged me (I realized later) and the other made promises he did not keep (including naming a time to come get the car, but closing his shop early without calling me). Jorge was so much more reliable, communicative, and honest. He quoted fair prices and what stood out for me the most, he lifted the car and explained the exact work he intended to do as he pointed out the problems he'd found. I have worked on cars a little bit before, so I enjoy learning more about my engine. It was extremely helpful to see his analysis and to understand the break-down of the charges and parts. I'm not sure if he will have the time to do that for everyone all the time. But since it was a slower day, he was certainly willing, even enthusiastic, to show me. I called regarding a roughness vibration in my 2016 BMW sedan that another shop was having difficulty diagnosing. I spoke to Jorge who was friendly and responsive, and who agreed to take a ride with me which he did and he understood right away what I was talking about. I left the car for a one hour evaluation and was happy to find out that they had figured out what the problems were and would be happy to fix them which they did. The work was done in a timely fashion and was reasonable. They also informed me about another safety maintenance issue which they recommended that I deal with. My Mercedes front headlight did not work. I took it to several mechanics (both ones I knew and ones that I'd never worked with). No one was able to detect why the light did not work properly, in spite of having the proper replacement part. That is, until I went to GAM. There, I worked with Jorge Perez, who not only was able to fix the light, but he was also able to do it the same day I brought him my car! (He even kindly offered to drive me to my home so I didn't have to wait in the shop.) I don't know how he did it, but he seems very familiar with the programs and hi tech equipment that Mercedes use. I've been taken my 2012 Benz C320 to GAM for many years already. I bought the Benz in Miami in 2010. It was driven to Oakland in 2011. Soon I noticed that the car had been "abused" before I bought it. Slowly but surely it started to show all the prior "injuries", but Jorge (the owner of GAM) took care of all of them with a lot of TLC. He takes his time to find out what the problem(s) is (are). Took my Honda Civic to this shop last weekend. I am no good at explaining specifics on what was wrong with my car to begin with. Gorge the mechanic paid very close attention to what I was trying to explain and to my sound affects regarding the car. He was able to fix those issues within two hours. Really good experience. they worked on my 2010 Audi Q5 & replaced the control arm , fixed a leak ,and did a wheel alignment ; They fixed it all for a Fair price based on my research with other shops and dealerships .. My 1991 Honda Accord had some strange issues with the ignition switch. I walked in without an appointment and Jorge Perez was able to help me out immediately. I live a few blocks away from this shop and the gentlemen that run it are extremely helpful. They are transparent and hard working. I own an older BMW and they were very open to every question I had about my cars issues. The mechanic spent at least an hour fixing the powersteering hoses on my car and charged me less than the hourly rate. I highly recommend them! read more
