Great shop near my office (convenient location) Last Thursday morning , the radiator on my Mazda started leaking. I really wanted to get it fixed before the weekend. My usual shop was too backed up to take me as a walk- in. I called Tyler to explain my problem and he ageed to look at my car at noon (same day) By 4 pm my car was fixed ... he diagnosed the problem , ordered the part, and got the car ready by the end of the day. My youngest is 400 miles away and I am so grateful we found Jason's on Yelp. I called the shop after AAA said the car needs the positive battery cable replaced, and spoke with Tyler. He kindly gave me his cell number so we could text him pictures. After looking at them, he said he needed to see it in person, and that it would be free to diagnose. They were busy but he squeezed the diagnosis in today. After looking at it, he said the cable is fine, there was just some corrosion on the battery. He helped to clean it without even charging! Let me start by saying I've been a loyal customer for years. I was recommended to them ever since my warranty ran out at the bmw dealership. They've been taking care of my car for a while and have always been thorough and honest about what work needs to be done. Prices are also very reasonable compared to dealership. As you know, luxury cars are very high maintenance and very expensive to upkeep after the warranty runs out. They don't nickel and dime you on everything or charge ludicrous prices just to diagnose the issue. Taylor has been my go to guy, but others in the shop have been great help as well. Took car in for emergency service. They scanned the error code in front of me and set pricing expectations up front. They were very detailed in explaining exactly what needed to be done. They even suggested I take my car to the prior shop I used since I had the same issue in February and it might have been on warranty/eligible for a labor discount. I took my Mazda in because it was leaking fluid and smelled horrible from the engine. Within 30 minutes they had determined it was a cracked cylinder head- not an obvious issue with a 40k mile car. I have a 2002 Honda Accord and they discovered that my Idle Air Control Valve Assembly needed to be replaced (very common for the 2002 Honda) ordered the part and replaced it all within a few days. They were very honest about it being the most likely fix. Jason and his technician went above and beyond in also identifying front and back brake light issues and referring me to Honda for a possible airbag safety recall issue. Summary: Great service, honest people and great prices. I called 6 shops to get quotes on one of the more significant types of regular maintenance for my 2011 Honda Fit (tire rotation, spark plugs, valve adjustment, and oil change). These were the results: Honda Dealer: $1100 Berkeley Bobs: $400 Berkeley Auto Repair: $585 Arts Automotive: $753 Jason's Auto Service: $375 Torchio's Auto Service: $600 I was suspicious that because Jason's was the lowest price that there would be some hidden fees. When I dropped off my car I mentioned my Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor may be broken, and he told me that would be about $120 in parts+labor to replace and reprogram. I resigned myself to the extra fee. I regretted not explicitly asking for quotes on that problem in advance over the phone. When I returned to pick up my car he explained that he could find nothing wrong with my TPMS sensor, and he did not charge me for the labor to check the sensor. This experience really makes me trust them. I had already okay'd the $120 charge, and he did not do it because it was unnecessary. I will be taking my car back for all my needs going forward. Also, I appreciated the flexibility they gave in using customer provided parts. read more

I. Love. This. Man. I don't ever make time to leave reviews, but he deserves your business. Even though he's busy, he always makes time to give me the last minute oil change I forgot to plan for before I hit the road, and he knew me over the phone after my first or second time there (I promise you, I'm not that memorable). I recently had to take my car somewhere else, begrudgingly, when it died over the weekend while he was closed. It was making a noise afterwards and, when Jason couldn't figure out conclusively what was wrong, he sent me out the door free of charge with a new belt that seemed to fix it and instructions to check in with him in a few days. These guys are the straightest of shooters. The only bad thing about my experience is that it made me realize another local mechanic had been ripping off my elderly grandparents for years. This other Oakland mechanic told my 80 year old grandma that it would take thousands of dollars of repairs to help her old car pass smog. That didn't smell right to me, so I took it to Jason's and they made the necessary repair and smog check for... fifty bucks!! Service was fast and they were nice to boot. At first, I went because they were close to home. I discovered that they're honest mechanics. I took my Forester to have the front right boot replaced, he didn't try to sell me the left boot. They they were seperate pieces and didn't need to be replaced yet.
