After I purchased a used 2007 Cayman S, I read up on bore scoring issues and got some serious post-purchase jitters! I brought my car to Bauerwerks and met Bryan, one of the most relaxed and down-to-earth mechanics I've ever met. He did a full inspection on the car, pointed out some problem areas, and we had a good discussion on how I could wrench on the car myself to solve these problems if I so desired. Since then, I've replaced the torn motor mount and replaced the 18 year old stock suspension with some high-speed aftermarket parts. Sent us a multipage detailed report with prices as well if we needed to fix. They even check down to the buttons if the windows. Amazing. Fair prices. Good communication. My 1964 Porsche 356 had been in the garage for many years, and I was looking for a suitable mechanic to bring it back to drivable condition so I could get body and interior work scheduled. Based on an in-person shop inspection and some discussion, Bryan at BauerWerks, also known as ABP Repair, seemed to be the best option. There were a zillion Porsches on site, though mostly newer models. I had the car towed to the shop, and within a very reasonable time, Bryan and his staff got it running at a cost that was well within my budget. He replaced the fuel tank and lines, fixed oil leaks, and kept me informed throughout the process. He always tried to balance what was needed versus everything possible that might be done, and I always felt he had my interests in mind, expecting a long-term customer relationship. Now that the car is in the body shop at Reunion Autoworks, I'm still bugging Bryan with questions to get his perspective. He's really busy, but patient with my questions and I really appreciate it. Brian is super humble, honest, and helpful. He takes the time to listen and has been willing to offer consultation and advice whenever I've called. I bought a used 2004 Porsche Cayenne S. The truck runs great but I had so much trouble getting it to pass smog because of an oxygen sensor fault code. Brian recommended that I conduct a drive cycle and then bring it back to him. After a month, the error code still popped up. I eventually decided to take the vehicle to the Porsche dealership. The dealership recommended that I reprogram the computer and they wanted to charge me a hefty amount. I decided to call Brian and get his opinion. He advised me to do it. Lo and behold, it worked! The error code disappeared and I was able to smog and register my vehicle the very next day. As repairs pop-up on my car, I'm glad I have a local mechanic like Brian who is willing to chase down a problem until it's resolved and doesn't mind presenting multiple options for addressing the problem even if it means referring the business out. That kind of honesty and integrity can't be undervalued. Brian does get busy and booking an appointment is the best way to go. This is my third year swinging by to get my oil changed. Every year I ask Bryan if it's time to change my clutch, and every year he says no. Never been recommended to do unnecessary work. Bryan is very warm, patient, and takes time explaining things. I own a base 987, and while it's not the top of the line car, I've always been treated with respect at BauerWerks/ABP. I recently took my restored 1968 Porsche to Bauerwerks for a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). The car had been restored recently by a reputable local body shop and looked excellent, with a shiny new paint job. However, the shop informed the potential buyer that the car had rust, which ultimately messed up the sale. If you guys have pictures of this "RUST" feel free to reply to this review. Someone definitely mentioned they took some pictures so that's good. They also stated the car was 70% restored. The cars engine is rebuilt has a new clutch mostly all the components are new, new paint, new tires, new bushings etc. Curious on what the other 30 percent might include. What do I need to make this car 100%? I have some concerns about the location of the shop. It is situated in a high-crime area of Oakland, right in front of a housing project. As a result, I would advise potential buyers to be cautious and aware of their surroundings when visiting the shop. Despite these concerns, the staff at BauerWerks were friendly and professional. They provided a thorough inspection of the car and were transparent about any issues they found. Overall, I would recommend this shop because all they deal with is Porsches so theoretically they should have extensive knowledge and expertise, but I would advise buyers to be aware of the location and potential safety concerns. read more

Before finding BauerWerks, our Panamera was regularly serviced by the Porsche dealer in Marin. I know nothing about cars and am not a car enthusiast, but I do take good care of the vehicles we have and have always serviced them according to the dealer's recommendations. While Porsche of Marin has been very good to us, I have paid them so much money that I really wanted to find a more affordable, reputable shop. I was recommended to BauerWerks by a couple I met admiring their own Panamera in front of a local coffee shop. I asked for shop recommendations, and they mentioned BauerWerks. They told me the owner, Bryan, followed in his father's footsteps. Apparently, his dad spent 50 years working on Porsches, and still helps at the shop a couple times a week. While I was dropping off my car at the shop, I also met one of their longtime customers who owns three vintage Porsches and hangs out with lots of Porsche enthusiasts. He had nothing but amazing things to say about BauerWerks and the good service they have given him over the years. The cost of my first service was so much more affordable and straightforward than the dealer. I was used to leaving the dealer with a huge bill and a list of more ancillary repairs to make. But today, I was simply told that the car was in good shape and that my brakes will be due for service soon. Took our 997.2 there for maintenance knowing full well we didn't want to deal with the "stealer" in WC. We love these independent guys since they really know the meaning of business where two parties walk away happy with the transaction. Brian and his team know their stuff and take care of your pride and joy. They even deferred me from a service that wasn't due yet since I was relatively new to P-cars. It is kind of a jaunt down there in Oakland but managed a Lyft home and ditched Gig car down there during the retrieval process. I'll definitely be back! The best in air cooled 356 repairs in the Bay Area is BauerWerks.    Before I bought it, they took my black 2 door coupe 65 356C in for a pre-purchase Inspection, in which I learned that I needed a new fuel lines, gas tank and shocks.  No problem, Bryan got me in there, and while they replaced the gas lines, they repaired the gas tank and reconditioned the shocks, so now my black little museum piece remains original and in tip top shape.  They even wonderfully tuned the 2.0 L Type 587/4 cylinder B4 (Carrera 2) engine with new Bosche plugs and adjusted the clutch for me. A long overdue review. I have been taking my 2002 Boxster and now my 2006 911s to Bauer since 2013. They always provide great advice and only work on what needs to be done. There is not a problem I have thrown at Bryan and his acolytes which they could not solve yet! Echoing other reviews, Bryan is honest, humble, nice, fair, takes the time to listen, and is partner with you in taking care of your Porsche. The rates are far more reasonable than the dealer. If you want leather sofas, with espresso machines and biscotti while you wait, then you'll need to go to the Porsche dealer, because this place is all about working on your car. Bryan, and his father Chris, have had this business for a long time, and they only work on Porches, from 356s to 924s to 911s. The business is know alternatively as ABP Repair and BauerWerks, as Bryan is clearly more focused on servicing your Porsche than marketing, so he'll have to rely on word of mouth by those who appreciate him taking good care of your Porsche. If you are going to own a Porsche past it's warranty, you'll need a good Indy to work on it, unless you have a strong need to get rid of your money, in which case, feel free to contact me and I can help you with that ;-). read more
