I brought a Tesla Model Y to them in order to have a wheel swapped out and have the front end inspected. Most folks don't know this, but Performance models of these cars blow through suspensions every ~70k miles or so. Precision charged me for the tire swap (move TPS to new wheel and re-mount on the new wheel), but they also charged me an hour of labor to inspect the front end, something that they already had in clear view when on the lift when they were doing the tire work. However, I was fine with it as long as they did a complete job and reported accurate information. I was planning on having them also replace the main front end components anyway, but they will NOT install any parts that they did not get for your car. Even if they are OEM parts from the manufacturer of your car. (Tesla parts are a PITA to get in a timely fashion sometimes, and having to wait for them to arrive is not a great customer service experience... especially when they are OEM parts. I'm assuming it's not just liability, but that Precision wants the markup on the parts over a providing a good customer service experience.) Precision came back and told me there was nothing wrong with the front end of the vehicle. immediately knew that this was impossible. No Tesla Model Y Performance with the original suspension is fine at 85,000 miles. I asked a buddy at a Porsche dealer to look at the front end and ALL FOUR bushing in the front end components were torn. Literally, if the technician from Precision Auto had looked them, it would have been obvious. If the technician missed it, Precision has a serious issue. I did call them. I asked to speak to the manager. The person that called me back sounded awfully young but listened to me vent and indicated he's refund my money for the inspection. (He took my credit card info for the refund, so fingers crossed there.) I'm really sure based on that experience that Precision Auto is not where you want to go if you have a Tesla. I told them exactly what they needed to look for and I've got to wonder if the server desk told the tech anything that I mentioned. (I do have alot of experience working on cars. I just don't want to do it.) At least they did a good job with the tire... -shrug- read more

I have been a Precision Auto customer for decades, for really my entire lifetime as a driver. Just about everyone in my family is a customer as this point, and that includes both sides of a large family. I wish I knew enough about the nuts and bolts to convince you categorically that they are the best, but here's what I can say: I do remember not long ago that they won what I understand to be THE national competition for best auto shop in the country, and I have to imagine that was a pretty big deal for a family-run business. So if you're just looking for people who know what they're doing, well that should be enough right there. I can tell you that they are the type of people who remember your name when you walk in, and that you will most likely have a few laughs while you're there. How often can someone say they have fond memories of getting their car repaired? I can, and I'm smiling right now thinking of how much my Dad loved talking with them about the world, and pretty much everything in it by the time we left... They have guided him and myself over the span of two vehicles each. Come to think of it, that's pretty good for over 30+ years, especially when we're still driving the latter two. Not to mention the first one I bought was, we'll say: not a good year from not a good company. They cut me so much slack, and put in so much extra work on that car for me. The hardest part for them though, had to be convincing me to buy a reliable, maintainable car next time, and convincing my Dad when it was time to let go of the truck he took such good care of for such a long time. In my case, it was a matter of helping me understand which makes and models not only last a long time, but will also save me a bunch of money over time. Such is the case on parts and labor, when the parts are easier to get, and the car is easier to fix, DUH... For my Dad, it was a matter of bedside manner, explaining that we've reached that time when the repairs are going to start costing more than the vehicle is worth. I say all that, because one way to tell whether someone is honest or not, is if you can point to some advice they gave you at the expense of their own profit. In a world where honesty is not a given in any industry, I think those are pretty good examples of where it still exists. read more

Saw my tire indicator light come on and looked for a nearby auto repair shop near where I was in Germantown, and found this place. I called to see how much they would charge to just check air pressure on tires and much to my pleasant surprise, Brenda who answered the phone said there would be no fees for air pressure check & filling in air on any low pressure tires. I brought my car here over the summer for the state vehicle inspection. I was pretty happy with my experience. They're a little more expensive than other places in the area, but they offered a more clear review of what my car needed to be able to pass the inspection. I was spoken to in a friendly manner and was not spoken down to whatsoever. I find that this sometimes happens because I'm a woman, and I don't have a lot of knowledge regarding cars. I really appreciated this. They also offer pickup/dropoff services within 5 miles. I brought my car back a few days later to have them make one final repair. This was done simultaneously with the inspection and my vehicle passed. I went back to Precision Auto last week to have my oil changed. When I called, they told me that an oil change would be $45 and went over my file to see if I wanted anything else taken care of. I declined and dropped off my car the following morning. I was given a ride home and received a call about 5 hours later with an update on other repairs that they recommend I have taken care of at some point. I was picked up and brought back to the location. Since my husband and I signed up for their frequency program, we had received a coupon in the mail for $10 off any service. Overall, this was another good experience! I appreciate their courtesy pickup/dropoff services, as well as their thorough overview of my vehicle. I always receive a printout with their recommendations whenever I get my car serviced so that I'm aware of any issues. After 4 visits to this shop (install new tires, new battery, fix nail in tire, brake job) with my Infiniti (my baby!), it's time for me to review this outstanding business! My last visit was to replace the brake pads, and not only was the job expertly done, I was picked up and dropped off, got a roster of photos showing they had thoroughly inspected my car, and I also received a competitive price (I had a prior quote from another shop, so I know), and the work was finished earlier than promised. I think they also charged my battery because it has been starting up even after a week of sitting in the garage. These guys and gals know how to make a customer very happy. She worked with me over the phone to figure out what could be put off vs. what needed to be taken care of right away, and whenever something new came up, whether good or bad news, she was prompt in reaching out to me. Friendly staff. Astronomical prices. 6+ hours to check a flat tire. Too long! And a gruff and blunt service worker (Bud) trying to push me to spend a lot when all I wanted was to fix a flat. I'm looking for a trustworthy, thoughtful mechanic that's also a good value - this is not the place for me. Came in with a flat tire... Saw good reviews on yelp. Was quoted $60 to repair a flat. That's a lot - shouldn't it be $20? I was in a bind, car undriveable... So after I applied a yelp coupon for $20, I agreed. They called later and said the tire could not be repaired - fair enough. Quoted me about $800 to replace two tires. My jaw dropped.... The tires are 19", so they are costly, but not $300 each! Fair market should be about $200 / tire, plus maybe $100 to install / balance. I asked if they could put the spare tire on and they said sure - for $60! I did get a comprehensive report with pictures and everything that is wrong with my car. New struts, alignment, new tires, air filters.... At the end of the day, I paid $60 to have them check a tire and put on a spare - something my local shop would do for free... I also got a long list of other issues with my car that would cost $1000s to fix. Nice waiting area, super friendly front office staff. They gave me a loaner car so I could make it to my meeting!! Amazing service! I ended up having them fix a couple of other things while my truck was there. Warning: you may be shocked when you go to Precision Auto in Germantown... you may not be ready for how nice, courteous, professional and good these guys are!! I know I was floored. Not saying other auto shops are bad, but it's obvious that the guys at Precision Auto take pride in customer treatment and care about doing a good job. I can't speak to cost being more or less than average since every auto issue can be wildly different. I know their prices are not out of the realm of normalcy in the industry. But even if they are more costly (again, not saying they are) they are most surely worth it. Remember the first time you went to Chick Fil A and were shocked at how nice the people working there are? That's how it feels to go to PA! :) They even give you follow up calls just to see how things are going. Most people you'll date in life won't even do that! Highly recommended! read more

This is the first time in my life I have had a truly positive experience with an auto shop. I highly recommend these guys and will definitely use them again. I just wish they did motorcycle repair :( I called a week in advance and talked to Steve -he was my guy through the whole experience, and could not have been nicer and more courteous. I just needed to bring my recently restored motorcycle in for a safety inspection. He booked me an appointment and said I'd need to drop it off for the entire day but they could drive me anywhere in Germantown. A couple days before, I noticed the weather was going to be bad on the day of my appointment, so I called to reschedule for a day earlier. Steve was happy to accommodate. It was raining (of course) at 8am when I arrived. The guys were really busy that day, but they made room for me to pull the bike into the shop so it didn't get wet. I expected to have to leave it there all day, but Steve called around 10am and said they were all done. My bike is in great shape, but MD can be strict with safety standards (I'm from VA where they just look to make sure the vehicle has the right number of wheels) so I was expecting ridiculous failures and a painful bill for repairs. 3 stars for an OK and honest shop. I had Tire Rack ship a set of tires to these guys. As they are listed on the Tire Rack site as one of their affiliated installers. First negative was that they needed me to drop off the car and leave it there all day just to change the tires. Because of that "requirement" I had to schedule my service two weekends out and put down a $25 deposit. When I showed up in the morning the guys on duty were cool. Judging by the empty bays and empty parking lot, besides the two cars the employees came in, I assumed it would take 1 hour max. This is based on over 100 tire changes over the years at discount tire, canadian tire, sears, and wheel works. Racing eats tires; biggest part of the budget. It took 5 hours to finish. I was not impressed. Still the workmanship was great. Well balanced. Worthy of 2 stars then. Of course as I stood at the front counter about to pay, they gave the "We noticed some things" list. I was happy to hear him only list things that I was previously aware of. Plus 1 star. Thus I felt he was very honest. That is rare and if I need some work in the future I just might give these guys another try. read more

I got my car inspected here, a few months later brought it over there again for a different problem. They said they gave the car a general look and gave me a list of things that need to be fixed. However, most of those things were supposedly were fixed during the inspection. Also, Bud, I think is the owner, was rude when I asked a simple question about the part of the car that needed to be changed. I called around for estimates and Precision's price was 400 dollars higher than the nearest quote. When I asked why so much they told me "If you want good service, you have to pay for it." In the 10 years I've had my car, I've taken it to probably a dozen shops for oil changes, repairs, and maintenance. I have always felt like I've been kept in the dark and/or bamboozled into spending more money than was necessary. Or I've felt like I wasn't being heard or respected. *cough-PEPBOYS-cough* I took my 10 year old, 106k mile car to Precision Auto last month because it was shaking when I braked. They inspected things and called me with a full explanation of the condition my car was in. They told me which things should be fixed ASAP, which could wait until my next paycheck, and which would be coming up in the future. It's the most I've ever heard about my car from a shop, ever. I was able to get some repairs done right away and then come back after my next paycheck to finish up the rest. Was it a bunch of money? Yep. But I did some research and checked with my car-savvy friends and everything Precision Auto said my car needed was something a car of 106k miles needed to stay in tip-top shape. Also, Mike the pick-up and drop-off driver is a nice guy. :-) When the weather is bad or I'm just feeling too lazy to walk a mile and half, it's good to have the option to get a ride to/from the shop. read more

The service here is tremendous. Maria and Andy were knowledgeable and responsive. The work was done well within time and cost estimates. I had my Maryland state inspection performed on an elderly car and had exactly the results I had expected. I received rides to and from my office from two drivers who were friendly and cautious drivers. The results of the inspection were texted to my phone with copious explanatory notes, which meant that I was able to review the results at my leisure before speaking with Andy about the path forward. You do pay for what you get. A Maryland inspection runs $118, which is a bit on the pricey side. I have no regrets, though, as the service was exemplary. read more

I dropped my car for AC repair and they promised me to give back or provide an update in 2 hours and never called and i called them back after 3 hours. they told me technician is working on it and will update me in 2 hours. never called. I called again after 3 hours and they said they are still working on it. I asked howlong it would take ... he was rude and unable to provide an estimate. then manager called me and he was very rude and asked me to take my car as he don't know when the work will be done. he was not ready to perform the work. I contacted this shop asking for a quote to replace rear brake pads and rotors, as my dealership said they were very low. They refused to provide a quote, and instead required that they do their own inspection before offering a price. Their inspection was $76 but would be waived if they did the brake work themselves. I had already received a quote for another shop of $430, but since Precision is closer to me I figured I'd let them do the job. After the inspection, they told me that, yes, the brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced (as I already knew) and they gave me a price of $680, $250 more than than the other shop, and even $80 more than the dealership! Needless to say, I did not want to pay them an extra $250, so I took my car back, but they wouldn't refund my $76 inspection fee, so in the end I wasted my time and money for them to tell me exactly what I already knew. If they had just told me the price of the work I requested in advance (which they refused to do) all of this could have been avoided. read more

Had tires sent here to be installed and they did a great job at good price. I now bring my truck here for service as well as have always been impressed with their service, honesty and friendliness. Had gone to another local tire shop with many poor reviews. Ended up leaving there after an hour wait with no timeframe to be seen. Came to Precision Auto and they fit me in for a quick tire fix without complaint. Great service. They also now have rental cars and a free shuttle to take customers to work or home which is very convenient. read more
