Great produced nights, fun mixed gay crowds with some queer fam sprinkled in. Somewhere between 1990s SF and 1980s NYC vibes. All shapes and sizes welcome. Not a Ken bar, but some handsome blokes about. Everything from hardcore, Twinkcore to dadcore... The prices are okay, it's no frills, with standard drinks. The scantily geared shot guys are always pushing shots. The shots taste like gasoline, but some are into that. If it's a theme night, the main stage usually has a couple shows and special DJ spinning some thematic queer beats. Mostly American gay-pop and standard house beats... It's a cut above the billboard packaged WeHo clubs but I'd be nice to be dazzled by some DJ spinning some premium throw down. There's always a cute queer shop full of merch tucked away on the patio/balcony. There's smoking on the patio, which is fine. It's chatty and cruise-y. This bar doesn't have any rough-trade sections but has a few cliques clucking around. Had the food long ago but remember it being good! Dexter, the security guard, and the "manager" are actually pretty rude. I had one drink and they kicked me out for partying with my friends. The vibe of the bar is great and the bartenders are fun. But they kick people out pretty indiscriminately... so have a fun time i guess :) read more

Bartenders were great! Friendly atmosphere... until 20 minutes till closing. First off DO NOT employ bouncers/ wanna be mall cops who do not respect/support our community. The closing security guards were so rude and slammed the doors in our faces. While closing our tab, we had two 5'2 security guards telling us to hurry up and get out (Exact words). Mind you, bar closes at 2 it was 1:45... I understand everyone wants to get home, but with a $10 cover charge and empty bar, you would think the establishment would appreciate the business. I am highly disappointed, discouraged, and dissatisfied with the quality of service on my first trip to Pricinct. COME ON A BUSY NIGHT. TRUST. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. This review is only for Sundays, since I visited on a Sunday. Came here for a couple of drinks with a friend since we were in the area. The bar tender was great and friendly, the drinks were good. Here's where I think the improvements are needed... Let's start with the outdoor patio furniture, that looks like it came from a garage sale, including the random lamp with colored lights?? Umm, why? I get that it's dark on Friday & Saturday nights but that doesn't mean you can't make it look nice during the day. The bathrooms were gross and the floors smelled like pee. Either there is no cleaning staff or they just don't care. It's really sad because it could really be a good vibe on a Sunday afternoon when it's not a Brunch show. read more

The brunch was pretty delicious, but the show was incredibly fun to watch and participate in. Their outfits were incredible, and performances were hilarious, talented, and entertaining. If you would have asked me how I felt about Precinct maybe two years ago I would have said it's a low key fun divey bar/club you can go to and always have a good time. However, my experiences at Precinct have slowly soured. On Saturday nights, the lines wrap around the front and we spent 1.5 hours one night waiting to finally give up. When you get inside, it doesn't seem to be filled at capacity, so I feel like this line thing is just hype/marketing. The employees now give attitude either by giving you a disapproving look or by making condescending remarks. Also, what used to be a reasonable $5 cover has ballooned into $8-$10...keep in mind the drinks are not cheap or well portioned. I feel like the owners have become greedy. I know the founder of Precinct died some years ago, so I'm unsure if these changes are because the new owners are trying to cash in, but It's just sad that a place which holds so many fond memories is now more concerned with keeping the hype than keeping it a genuine place to go have fun. read more

I used to love Precinct, but during my last few visits, it's really gone downhill. At Bearracuda on Saturday we ordered two gin and tonics and the bartender gave us three tequila and sodas with Tajin. When we kindly explained that's not what we ordered, he got angry and said we could take it or leave it because there were other people in line. The logistics to get in were a mess, both at the street level and at the top of the stairs. The DJs here are really hit and miss, as is the effectiveness of the AC on the dance floor. Considering the expense and hassle of coming downtown, I don't think I'll be heading here as much. read more

Twice when in dtla during the day, after going to museums ect, my partner and I decided we would go support the community and check it out. I will never forget the first time... So the bar itself has that local dive bar feeling to it. Not a lot of class, poor maintenance, bigger than it needs to be, standard fare alcohol with none of the cool local California craft distilleries or beer. After walking upstairs and across the empty floor, I was noticing the three other patrons in the bar idly standing about the massive space and wondering why are the floors this sticky for a bar this empty, it must be popular at night because it felt like a lot of somebodies were having a good time but given the time of day then and the crowd size present, it had to have come from the night before or an accumulation of nights eek. I could tell we wouldn't be here long I was thinking as we approached the bar tender. After some rather brief salutations, and purveying the alcohol options the bar stocks, the general made-for-the masses Seagrams Corporation alcohols and not much else, I was wanting a Negroni but did not see an aperol so I ordered two Manhattans with crown royal. A simple two mix cocktail with a cherry garnish - not hard to make and very hard to screw up. The bartender then gave me shit, I was like wow - ok. He said they don't do those fancy foo foo drinks there, they are down to earth and do beer ect. I should go to another place if I want that. I looked around at the 3 other customers in the bar and then back at the bar tender and said, it looks like most your customers already did. I asked him, how's that working out for you? Do you get a lot of tips that way? Anyway, I did go back at night a few months later, to see it at a different time of day and let's face it, since Mattachine closed it's the only real option for gay bars near Pershing square. It was packed, drag show going on though couldn't see it really. I'm short and there isn't a stage. Drinks still simple, floors still sticky, the crowd both merry and plentiful enough that I didn't mind ordering a quick serve off the tap drink as the bar tenders are just trying to keep up. I was pleasantly surprised and can say I was merrily adding to the sticky floors a bit as I did usual version of convulsions on a dance floor, also known as white man dancing. I've never had a bad experience here. Precenct opened when a lot of good bars were closing. A bit before Bar 107 closed just down the street. Most of the new places opening in the area are high end with high prices. I love that Precinct "kept it real" and did not go overboard with design and fancy fixtures. Just a big space, filled with fun people, serving great drinks at reasonable prices. I really like the patio here with it's big, open windows. It's a nice mix of indoors & outdoors. This is bar far the best gay bar in downtown LA. (Currently 1 of 3). Drinks are pricey but the dance music (techno style) is fun. The service is a bit hard to get to at times because of the layout of the bar. But when you do get a drink it's from a nice and not watered down. read more

Admittedly, I avoid most of the gay bar scene in LA since moving from SF, mostly due to a disappointing experience when I first moved down here. However, Precinct had been on my radar for a little while (mostly due to Queen Kong), and I finally made the trip to check it out. Queen Kong is a Friday night event hosted by the Boulet Brothers that boasts some pretty awesome lineups and just general fun times. I was told that Queen Kong starts sometime around 9-10 (and I got the impression that it was a rough estimate), so I arrived a little bit early to have a drink and some food. Wells were $5 until prime time, and I appreciated the cheap and stiff drink in DTLA. Sometime after 9, the backroom opened up, and filled up pretty quickly (though it wasn't obnoxiously crowded). There was another bar in the back, a DJ, some dancers, as well as some guys walking around selling those test tube shots for $4 each. The Boulet Brothers got the show started around 10, and all of the Queens put on a solid show. There was about a 45 minute break in between the first set and the second. The good: -No cover (I'm not sure if this changes later) -Open, fun, casual vibe -Queen Kong - just a great event -Friendly staff -Good prices for DTLA -Love the DTLA vibe compared to WeHo The you-know-not-my-favorite: -Only one of the bathroom stall doors actually closes Overall: If you're into a non-pretentious gay bar, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff - I definitely recommend checking out Precinct. I was here on a Monday night when they were showing Ru Pauls Drag Race. My Aussie friend was dying to see his favorite drag queen there so we went. I'm not a fan of drag queens and i'm definitely not a fan of this place, but I wanted to make sure he had a good time while visiting. I thought this place was just okay, but then the bartenders were a bit shady. I wasn't drinking since I drove, but I went up to the bar with my friend. He was charged different prices for the Heineken with each of the 2 bartenders. I'm guessing this is common Bartender practice, but people were definitely not drunk enough yet to be trying this. Not the best parking in the area. We paid $6 at a garage down the street. Also had to walk by all the sketchy people before getting carded at the door. I must say one pleasant thing was the security guard. He was very friendly...and not bad on the eyes either. read more

Non pretentious gay bar. Precinct is a no frills, diverse, bear bar. The service is friendly and efficient enough. The music is good and the bear dancers shake their hairy arses with all they've got. There's outside seating on the balcony, which can get a little packed on the weekends; big plus. They have good drink specials. Precinct is one of my stops when I'm out partying in DTLA. read more

People have to understand that when you attend a Grand Opening of a business, don't expect things to run perfectly. And when it's a grand opening, expect much larger crowds. That was the case here as the bar had to delay its grand opening by about 10 months, so there was quite a bit of anticipation for them to open. Barring the excessive crowds, this is a great hang out to meet with friends for drinks and a bite to eat. Prices are reasonable, and bartenders are friendly. The outside patio is a wonderful space with the glassless windows providing ample breezes and views. Hope to be back in a couple of weeks to check them out again, when things die down a tad. read more

The place here is just great to have a drink or a plate of hot chicken wings. The prices are relatively cheap compered to other local bars in Downtown Los Angeles. The bartenders are sweet and very helpful also they're quick... I wonder if they that quick in bed jk lol. But the service 10 out of 10. Not really sure why they need to go to a gay bar... do they feel safer bringing their girlfriends to a gay crowd, or the guys like the idea of a gay guy trying to pick them up? I understand the inclusive spirit but come on... this place use to have three great Saturdays every month. Now all the events are about drag queens/transgender... nothing against those shows or drag queens, love them and enjoy them but now most of the parties in this place are about that... it used to be so much fun and now is packed with straight girls shouting for no reason, a bunch completely drunk and acting irrational. The venue is fun and the crowd is good... but pay for your drinks in cash!! I charged my card for drinks and paid tip in cash. I track my expenses and when it was different from the statement I went back to my receipts. The bar marked up the charge from what I signed. Some bars sometimes think you won't notice a few bucks and that they can just steal a small amount from everyone. Apparently this is one of them. read more

Staff is rude and slow. Waited 20 mins in line. Then waited 30 mins in line with a slow bartender to get drinks, then they told everyone to leave at 1:45 and didn't let anyone use the bathroom.
