I live in an old house where tree roots clog up my plumbing. In the past 10 years I've had to have plumbers out every other year. I WILL CALL NO ONE BUT PRATER! NO ONE. (I even have a friend who's a plumber and I use Prater) They are always quick to respond. The jobs were always done the same day. They're professional, extremely nice, and always friendly with a smile. Prater never leaves any mess or even sign they were here, other than a job well done! I checked my paperwork which I keep for anything purchased for the house. Lifetime warranty on all parts. I called the company not knowing what was needed. So sad Prater Plumbing was one of my first introductions to Ventura and the service was consistently subpar. 1. The plumber Co$& installed the large, front loading washer and dryer and DID NOT level the washer nor the dryer. I pushed both with one finger and both tipped. I called him back before he left and asked that he level them. 2. The plumber Co$& DID NOT turn on the gas to ensure the dryer would dry clothes, see picture. I asked him before he left if the dryer was working. He laughed at my question and said yes. Well it turned "ON" via the electrical plug, but could not dry clothes due to lack of gas. 3. After running the washer after the two plumbers left the washer leaked overnight, see picture. When they sent someone back the next day he said the leak was not from their work, but after he left - no more leak...hmmm. The main office ended up saying that they knew the leak was from their work and was fixed after day 2. When I called the main office and asked if Sa$ was the owner he said no, he runs the office and schedules the teams. When I asked to speak to the owner, Sa$ said he was part owner. What? Finally, Prater plumbing kept asking me to book a follow up service with them, which I declined twice as I was concerned by their lack of professionalism and quality work and THEY still sent someone out to my house with no confirmed appointment which felt very uncomfortable and violated my privacy. My friends have asked for the name of the company to ensure they never call them. :( so sad. read more

I had Prater Plumbing, come out because I was having problems with not having hot water in my shower. They told me that it was my faucet cartridge . They charge me $280 to replace the cartridge in the faucet that did not fix the problem. They came back out and told me that I needed the whole faucet the fix the problem . They cut a hole in my wall replace the faucet charge me $800 did not repair the hole that they cut in the wall that did not fix the problem either. each time they sent two people out so they could double charge me on labor. They diagnosed that it was the water heater that was wrong. They ordered the part and they wanted another $800 to put the new part in I found somebody else to put the new part in for $200 and now they're charging me another $280 for two people that took them 15 minutes to diagnose the problem and they're charging me for an hours labor for two people read more

GET ESTIMATE IN WRITING! We've worked with Prater a few times over the past decade and just had a recirculating pump installed and our sewer line cleaned out. We got multiple estimates and went with Prater because the estimates were similar and we had good experience with Prater in the past. However, the cost ended up MUCH higher than the estimate and, unfortunately, I hadn't gotten the estimate in writing. Last time I make that mistake. We haven't had any issues with their work, but be sure to get estimates in writing. read more

What a great experience. I contacted Prater Plumbing to fix my clogged drain in Camarillo. I don't think I've ever called a service person who was nicer than Sal. This young guy exudes friendliness. When he got here, his amiable nature and professionalism painted the picture of a fellow who loves his job and life. At first, he failed to clear the tough clog in the pipes. But he insisted on trying again, and then when that failed, he tried a third time...I myself was ready to give up and pay him for his time. But he kept at it, and where another company had failed to clear the drain, he eventually succeeded. His work ethic kept him on the job until it was done. I called them on Sunday when my tenant called me to report that when she is using the washing machine, the water is coming out of her kitchen sink. When I called, they quickly answered the phone and were very professional (surprising considering it was a Sunday). They gave me a fair and honest price and got a service call scheduled for this morning. Today they came out and took care of the problem and even tested everything to make sure there are no more issues. My tenant is happy and the problem is solved. Last night I noticed the water in our kitchen sink was coming back up through both drains. Pffft. No problem, I thought. I flicked the switch to the garbage disposal. Suddenly the nasty drain water started bubbling up, filling the drain even faster. Damn... my (everyone's) go to strategy has failed. My dad sells plumbing and is an amateur plumber himself, so I asked him for his advice. He tells me to take apart the pipes underneath the sink and check the trap. No problem. 20 minutes later I've taken apart every pipe under the sink and still nothing. So my dear ol' dad comes over and he takes a look. And says we should check the "clean out". We we walk around the side of the house and found it and opened the cap and GUUUSH! all the trapped water comes spraying out. My pops says that ain't normal. So he recommends I try to snake it, if I have one, which I do. And if I can't then call a plumber. So I snake it and snake it, and just can't seem to clear it and now its about my bed time. My precious evening is ruined. First world problems. So the next morning I call Joseph Prater Plumbing after hearing good things about them and a recommendation from a friend. I explain the problem and they say they can get someone to me by 2pm. 11 am Christian shows up. Bonus. He diagnoses the situation, jumps on the phone to explain to me, and I give him the go ahead. He snakes it from the inside and the outside and clears our drain like it ain't no thang. I'm at work so I did not have the pleasure, but my wife reports Christian was a polite gentleman, and he took care of the problem like a true professional. He also helped install the plumbing when the house were built in our neighborhood, Village at the Park, so he has insider knowledge of how these homes are laid out. All in all, it was a 5 star experience. We will be calling Jospeh Prater Plumbing for our next plumbing misadventure. read more

This time Leo and Christian came out to my home to replace my disposal. When they got to my home ... on time ... they tried to get the one working before taking it out. It was only 2 years old. NOPE : Two weeks ago, I called to have someone come out and check out a toilet that wasn't flushing correctly and constantly was backing up. I never received a call back until I reached out again and was told by Sal the NEW OWNER someone would be there on Monday morning. The plumber, Larry, that showed up was nice enough and said he would be able to come back either that Thursday or Friday to take care of the two toilets that needed replacing. I never got a call back all week so decided I would call someone else to come look at it. On Friday morning as I'm in my car leaving for work, Larry shows up as I'm leaving and says he is there to install. I told him I never received a call after I specifically told him last time that I wanted to know as soon as possible when he would be coming out again. He then blamed it on the NEW OWNER Sal who supposedly was the one responsible for getting back to me. We decided to go ahead with the $700.00 fix because the toilets needed to be fixed and it had now been 3 weeks since it began. But wait there's more.... this plumber then dropped and spilt toilet bowl water from a shop-vac all over the carpet in the upstairs master bedroom. Not a little A LOT. He cleaned it up as best he could with the shop vac but when I asked for a written statement of the accident he said he would write one up for me after he finished cleaning up. He then went outside, leaving my front door open. Of course, I assumed he was coming back inside so my front door was left open for about 20 min before I went to see what was taking so long. He freaking took off, gone, left without another word. Oh AND he left a bunch of the old toilet assembly in my small bathroom trash can. Completely Unacceptable. It's sad to see a company like this that was once so great fall apart so quickly Don't trust these guys, bad communication, bad service. read more
